I have been wondering what is responsible for this too. Each time the price of bitcoin is going up or down, the price of other cryptocurrencies will follow. It didn't often follow this pattern before. I started noticing it after the prolonged downtrend. I think it is because people buy or sell depending on the price of bitcoin.
Both bitcoin and altcoins both are good for investments. Bitcoin is the head for all coins, the price of bitcoin can affect the price of altcoins also. Because both bitcoin and altcoins are interconnected with one other. Now both price are very low so buy more coins and hold it for future. Once the market returns you can sell and earn good income.
I have realized that whenever the value of bitcoin drops in the cypto market almost all the altcoins' values also drop. Bitcoin is and has been the father of all cryptocurrencies but i still do not get the relationship and the rationale for the effects of bitcoin value on altcoins.
Altcoins are dependents with bitcoin since majority of them is used to trade with bitcoin. There was a time when bitcoin continuously dropping while some other alts like Ripple and Ethereum were rising, speculators even thought this would replace bitcoin position in the market, but then again after few months bitcoin remain stable while these alt coins started to drop. Crypto price are really unpredictable though most of the time alts lies on bitcoin fluctuations but still I would like to believe it still the market that predicts what would be the next value this cryptos. 
I think it's a natural thing because bitcoin already has a market and can be accepted in many fields. With this capability, bitcoin is a reference price for other altcoins
Mass adoption and bitcoin can be found everywhere in exchanges.Compare the crypto market to the world economy. With all of those local currencies (altcoins) are depending to the US economy USD (bitcoin). And that's the similarity of why altcoins are depending to bitcoin, sometimes there isn't but this happens for few times.
Alts has been pegged to bitcoin / satoshi rather than USD so if a slight drop of bitcoin price the satoshi price which alts price are based on will drop as well even tho the alt has not dropped the price of satoshi , its always a double edge since alt coin is just riding Bitcoin waves if it go down alts will go down if it goes up alts will go up interms of USD value

I think most of the altcoins are traded against Bitcoin but not all of them. If the price of bitcoin rises then people will start selling their altcoins to buy bitcoin because they are afraid that this can reduce the price of altcoins. They sell altcoins in panic that the market may experience congestion so long that time altcoin can fall even more. but not everyone thinks that way. every Altcoin you get can be exchanged with Bitcoin or buy / sell. of course Bitcoin is the parent of cryptocurrency because market price movements depend on Bitcoin. do not be surprised if the price of Bitcoin falls, then Altcoin prices also come down.

every Altcoin you get can be exchanged with Bitcoin or buy / sell. of course Bitcoin is the parent of cryptocurrency because market price movements depend on Bitcoin. do not be surprised if the price of Bitcoin falls, then Altcoin prices also come down. 
Because people use Bitcoin to buy/sell their coins so altcoin value vary with bitcoin price.

Considering the money in the world of dollars, the crypto money market in my mind comes from bitcoin.Altcoins come to our minds later. sometimes the bitcoin value decreases and other altcoins grow. but always bitcoin number 1.
Sometime bitcoin price may affect the coins value grow more and sometimes it will be goes to dump value.
These things are determined the value growth and fall but all the coins have different characterstics on using the coins

you just realized now, but not all altcoins like that in my opinion there are also those who take advantage of the increase in bitcoin prices for their tokens also go up.
big trade might all be like that, but it should be known bitcoin is indeed the center of altcoin because their pair mainly uses bitcoin.

for short term invest ad make more profit i think the best way is trading in Altcoin beside trade in bitcoin, because bitcoin price is slow moved in market better than altcoin
As is customary, Bitcoin pulls down other altcoins with him. It is a factor that has been in place since the very beginning of the first altcoins. Sometimes, however, the situation is the opposite, the bitcoin is decreasing and the other altcoins are growing. This is usually after each increase of the btc price on its ATH. After this phase, the price of altcoins upwards and the bitcoin either drops or its price is at a certain value. These are the moves i noticed at the prices of btc and other cryptos.
Bitcoin is a powerful coin. It's a digital gold and altcoins are just alternative coins which bring more options, products, and ideas in the crypto world.
I've been saying that bitcoin is a digital gold as well. Few altcoins won't go along with the flow of bitcoin and but they would go opposite.

Bitcoin and altcoin both are good for investments. While bitcoin suits for both long term and short term, but altcoins only suit for long time. Some of the altcoins only have high growth, bitcoin is the head for all altcoins. So split your investments and invest half in bitcoin and half in altcoin. Then only we can manage the profit and loss.
of the many altcoins, most of the value is exchanged for BTC and ETH as altcoin mothers. clearly influencing BTC to the altcoin, when it went down the exchange rate also fell. I think this is normal, where BTC is the father of altcoins.Jump to:
