Great read indeed. He actually exchanged emails with Satoshi. Amazing.

He did a lot more than that, including creating one of the first remailers and being instrumental in setting up the remailer network.

Great story.  Sending some prayers your way for continued health and strength.  Your attitude is so inspirational.  Life throws us unexpected things for sure.  The true test of a Man is how he handles the trials and it appears you are triumphant.

Thank you Hal.
Only thing I wish is that you create one last earthquake, making bitcoin even stronger.
But really, cheers. Expect a lot of free drinks in hell. Grin

Thank you for the post, Hal. RPOW was probably one of the stepping stones for the invention of bitcoin. Will you tell us one day who Satoshi was ?

In Satoshi I Trust
October 26, 2013, 07:34:05 PM

When Satoshi announced the first release of the software, I grabbed it right away. I think I was the first person besides Satoshi to run bitcoin. I mined block 70-something, and I was the recipient of the first bitcoin transaction, when Satoshi sent ten coins to me as a test. I carried on an email conversation with Satoshi over the next few days, mostly me reporting bugs and him fixing them.

is it possible that you post some of your emails with satoshi? would be very interesting for alot of people to read that.

Very nice post.

You have reminded us that we cannot control what cards we are dealt, only how we will play them.

May Bitcoin be touched by his Noodly Appendage

I was reading again about the Bitcoin history but this time followed several links, some of those leading to this thread.

Nothing original to say, everything has already been said.
Just thanks for sharing your story and thanks for your contributions to crypto.
Keep enjoying life.

Thank you Hal, for helping kickstart this thing.
Regarding your personal struggle, congratulation on pushing forward - it might slow down your coding a lot, but might as well be a hell of a growth experience.

Thanks for posting this, you're an inspiration and I thank you for all the work you've done. It's great to hear a story from someone who was there at the beginning. Don't worry about deciding not to leave your CPU on because the noise bothered you, I first heard about it at the start of 2010 and dismissed it entirely for three years!
Sorry to hear about the disease. You're right to be comfortable with your legacy, it's a great one.

I would be interested, and would find value, in knowing the identity of one person who Hal Finney felt most closely shared his own vision for the future of the internet as it relates to empowerment firstly, and to distributed crypto-currency solutions as a important but secondary consideration.

If provided I will factor it into my decisions about who to pay particular attention to in the future.
