Of course, this is likely to happen, and no one can say for sure, although I think it will be very slow, but one day it will be legal Smiley

The possibility of Russia legalizing Bitcoin is 50:50. This is because the Russian government wants to avoid something undesirable, if Bitcoin and Cryptocommunity are made legally. With a large population, I'm sure many people who reject Bitcoin and many who welcome Bitcoin.

The possibility is 0.5 to 99.5.

Both countries that are taking a stance against Bitcoin openly (China and Russia) have a problem with capital outflow.
They don't give a damn about bitcoin in general, the numbers of btc users is small, usage is limited , common we have around 300 000 transactions in the blockchain a day , probably 25% more at beast with segwit , compare this to 140 million or 1 billion citizens.

What they fear is how bitcoin makes it easier to get money out of the country.
And both their economy are bleeding millions. China has lost 3 trillions this decade, Russia around 40 billions during 2013.
This is their mean fear and they will not legalize bitcoin unless they find a way to control how much money every Russian put in there.

Earlier the Russian government used to be extremely hostile to crypto-currencies. But recently, they seems to have changed their stance. Perhaps they have seen what happened in Japan after crypto was legalized there. A lot of the Bitcoin-based businesses moved to Japan after the legalization, resulting in the creation of new jobs and an increase in the tax revenue.

Name ten....

But it could raise Russian economy. I hope they realise that

Seems like no, the Russia government prefer to create their own crypto currency, according to them it is easier to control it and of course the governments is going to regulate it,  so in the future I don't think the government is going to accept Bitcoin or any other ICO
It is true that government is one of the primary thing to consider for bitcoin to be successful on the future. I do believe that having an open government in terms on accepting bitcoin on transactions, investment or either on trading for people to serve as a good way for them to earn is a big thing because it help for bitcoin functionalities in a more acceptable and accessible ways.

Russian government doesn't declare anything like this. These are lot's initiatives about using blockchain. It's totally useless to make any coin with government regulations. There is a ruble in different types.

We all know that cryptocurrency and Russia have contradictory relationships.

Russia seeking for the way how to regulate cryptocurrency, for example, some of Russians officials claim that bitcoin and cryptocurrency should be considered as "goods" and not a "currency". Also, they banned well known Russian media about cryptocurrency. They still don't want to legalize Bitcoin explaining that this currency is used for money-laundering and illegal business.

On the other hand, there are a lot ICO campaigns in Russia. Almost every week the crypto and blockchain events are organized. And Russian crypto community is quite big.

Do you believe that one day Russian government will legalize Bitcoin and join cryptocommunity?

maybe yes maybe not but definitely have possibility russian government accept the bitcoin as legal currency so far i think russian government and officials continue to study about bitcoin in crypto's hoping someday bitcoin legal in russian and treat as fiat money.

I think Russia may back up ETH and make it russian bitcoin. Yeah, it stupid though based solely on the fact, that it russian developers behind it. But who knows, right? Could ban all bitcoins transactions and access to exchanges in a matter of days.

Hard to imagine this)) By the way Vitalik Buterin is citizen of Canada, and he resides in Singapore.
Moreover ETH is already established currency, how you imagine that Russia will take control over it? Or will create another fork? (Like Ethereum Classic exists, but it's not so popular)

And they are going to call it Ethereum Russia   Lips sealed

For all governments, the question of legalizing bitcoin is harsh...

Because indeed, it is used for money laundring and for the moment "bitcoin" is quite related with "darkweb" and "illegal matters" for the public opinion, mass medias and.. well, governments.

For the moment, all the governments are more or less chosing either to ignore bitcoin or to make it illegal. It is easier for them, as they are perfectly aware that there are many operations out of their control, yet happening on their territory, allowed by new technologies (not only btc).

At some point, they will no longer be able to ignore it or simply ban it (due to, you know, international operations, vpn and impossible control). Russia will do as the others. Except that, if the Russian community is large enough, they may be able to make it happen soon...

Bitcoin forum is a system arround world wide and it's a legalized bitcoin according in government and to the public it's a illegal for a moment and many of them are out of control and this are allowed by other new technologys and Russia had community is large in bitcoin. They focused on bitcoin from long time.

Russia is a communist country just like china.Usually communist countries don't encourage liberal ideas. So,obviously they don't like to promote bitcoin which gives liberty to its citizens regarding financial activities.
/////
Russia is no longer a communist country, it has embraced a bit of capitalism with the government still controlling parts of the economy. At least on paper it's not a communist country anymore, more like a socialist combined with a totalitarian government.

I think both of your might be right. Russia is oligarchic dictatorship but with culturally communist (Putin said that fall of Soviet Union was the worst thing of XX century) attitudes. Just take a look how authorities stick to communist pasts, communists monuments and street names and also criticize other ex-Soviet countries for the process of decommunization.
I think at some moments Russia might pressure more bitcoin and cryptocurrency community, and then lots of crypto-entrepreneurs will ran away (some to Belarus, Ukraine, Baltic states, other and especially those who speak English fluently might end in USA and other countries).
As example you can see the stories of Berezovsky, Khodorkovskiy, and lots of others less famous businessmen.

ICOs and crypto are very popular in Russia, most of succesfull projects are from Russia so maybe soon this country will become really progressive in this area and will be a 'heart' of crypto and ICO, why not?

Name on successful ICO project, one that actually got to be implemented and used.

Russia is a communist country just like china.Usually communist countries don't encourage liberal ideas. So,obviously they don't like to promote bitcoin which gives liberty to its citizens regarding financial activities.

Recently, putin termed bitcoin as a pyramid scheme. We all know him as a dictator and russian government would move only in the direction in which he dictates.Very soon, russia may even ban ICOs just as in china.

Recently,it said that it would ban access to bitcoin exchanges and websites. So,we could not expect a positive news from russia.

Russia is no longer a communist country, it has embraced a bit of capitalism with the government still controlling parts of the economy. At least on paper it's not a communist country anymore, more like a socialist combined with a totalitarian government.

But that aside the major problem for Russia is capital outflow.
This is one of the main reasons one of the biggest country in the world with huge oil gas mineral reserves are struggling to compete with the eastern block in terms of gdp per capita.
And bitcoin is one of the things that make capital movement a piece of pie.
Russia will never support this as it is going to ruin their already crippled economy.

Yes, I do believe that the Russian government will legalize Bitcoin eventually. They have no other choice unless they want to be like North Korea, isolated from the rest of the world. There is a strong Bitcoin community in Russia and I'm sure some of those guys have ties with the government.

Exaggerating...at least.
How do you even think Russia will be isolated if they are not going to use bitcoin?
Is there a country (the government not the population) using bitcoin right now?

If Russia creates and regulates their own cryptocurrency, then what difference does it have than having a regular bank account at a Russian bank? A government created cryptocurrency defeats its own purpose, since people wouldn't be willing to invest in it, especially in a country like Russia where the government can reach everywhere.
