So what do you guys make of this? Bitcoin value has been steadily climbing the past 48 hrs. A little bit more and we'll have passed the highest Bitcoin has reached in over 20 months! Any predictions?

FOMO   - Fear Of Missing Out. As halving creeps nearer and nearer, the window of opportunity for buying bitcoin at relatively cheap prices becomes smaller and smaller. More and more people are only just now starting to realize this and are buying their tickets en masse before the train pulls out of the current station.

Damn and I cashed out some the other day. Bad luck.

@ontopic what do you guys think could have caused this surge? IMO it's still early for the halving surge.

2 days ago were were all wondering if it was ever going to reach 450, and it zipped past 450 easily on today. So yeah, it will pass 500 next week if it survives the weekend with no crash. Grin

how can you predict that the bitcoin will go 520? you know, if this is a bump, then you should know what you are predicting is being trolled.
the bitcoin block is halving though.

Halving is approaching, that's why people are buying more bitcoin.

The reason for this increase, is the trading volume increased on buying side. IT will continue for some time now.

it's about damn time. the eth pump has stopped and now all the investors are dumping their coins to cash out and buy bitcoin again.
this was expected from the beginning. the fact that bitcoin price is still below $500 is strange not the fact that it has risen up to >$475

The price is not going to rise much above $500, the backlog of transactions won't let it.

Any news that I might have missed in regards to price jump ?
a lot of people here say it's caused by halving, maybe it's right,we're now near to halving,as i see from the bitcoin halving countdown, still 44 days to go
many people holding their btc and supply decreased, demand increased

yes it's still far enough I think to approximate halving. but I do not know whether this effect of halving, or pure bitcoin prices are on the rise.

OP : I even saw in huobi it reaches $497.

ETH is headed south on high vol. Dumping ETH and moving back into BTC?

That does not account for the huge surge in volume.  I would say insitutional buying
