One of the many industries being revolutionized by blockchain technology is the video game industry. Steam now accepts Bitcoin for payments, Gamerholic and GameCredits power their game platforms with cryptocurrency, and Spells of Genesis puts trading cards on the blockchain via Counterparty.

Huntercoin takes things a step farther by completely forgoing the use of a central server, making it the first decentralized autonomous video game. The game world is stored on the Huntercoin blockchain, with commands issued to your Hunters via Huntercoin transactions on the P2P network. Players compete for newly-minted HUC dispersed around the map.

Huntercoin is a turn-based game with each turn lasting one minute (the block time). This makes for a chess-like game of cat-and-mouse, which we're going to demonstrate on the big screen for everybody to see first hand. Andrew Wagner will answer any questions, and the whole event will be moderated, livestreamed and recorded by Alex Sterk on BlockTalk. We'll also have 205 free HUC (the cost of a Hunter) for each new player, and the latest copy of the blockchain on SSD.

Although the game is still simple and difficult to run, the Huntercoin team is currently hard at work to fix this. Andrew will discuss the latest efforts and future plans to increase playability, and outline a theoretical model for consensus-based game updates and decentralized modding on a shared ledger.

We haven't been posting all the weekly Meet Ups for the last while, now, because we wanted to avoid bloating the forum. However, the one coming up on Friday with Open Bazaar, the decentralized P2P marketplace with Bitcoin, has FREE PIZZA, so we thought we'd spread the word: http://www.meetup.com/bitcoinvan/events/231028308/

We'll be having a small gathering from 1-9 PM at 436 West Pender to participate in the International Hangout so we don't miss presenters like Andreas Antonopoulos. CoinFest Vancouver will once more be holding an awesome party for those who never got to experience CoinFest 2014. We will start by having dinner at India Gate, the world's first Indian restaurant to accept Bitcoin, a historic landmark in the Vancouver Bitcoin scene. Enjoy great food and drinks without the need for pesky Canadian dollars.

After dinner, we're going to bring back the Decentralized Doge Party, an awesome twist on the Decentralized Dance Party for fans of cryptocurrency. If you can't imagine what that's like, watch this video... you absolutely won't regret it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUpW18Exw8g

Unfortunately, the City of Vancouver and its liquor inspectors will have a hissy fit if we do it at India Gate, again (boo, central authorities), so at around 8:30, we're going to clear out of the restaurant and head to another location (to be announced). The DDP will start at 9 PM, and if we get enough sponsorship funding and donations, will turn into a roving flash mob on the streets. Stay tuned!

CoinFest started in 2013 as a relatively small gathering of 100 or so Bitcoiners, celebrating the adoption of Bitcoin at the Waves Coffee House at Smithe and Howe. It was conceived as a way to incentivize cryptocurrency acceptance while educating the public about its importance and use. Its popular success prompted the Bitcoiniacs to place the world’s first Bitcoin ATM there, which we again celebrated.

By 2014, CoinFest was growing in popularity, and that year it took a new direction: CoinFest spread across Canada and now internationally, exemplifying the border-defying and decentralized nature of crypto. Vancouver lead the way again by booking multiple venues simultaneously for a less centrally organized variety of exhibits, as Satoshi would have wanted. In 2015, CoinFest spread worldwide, and new ground was broken in Latin America and Europe.

This year, CoinFest Vancouver will be hosted primarily at 436 West Pender, a local hub for decentralization supporters and fans. It will function as a base of operations for the International Hangout, which coordinates live virtual presentations beamed simultaneously to audiences around the globe. Speakers will include notable thinkers and leaders such as Paul Snow from Factom, Susanne Tempelhof of BitNation, and Chelsea Barabas from MIT Media Labs Digital Currency Initiative, who will air in the afternoon.

The Hangout will be over at around 4 PM, after which we'll be focused on local activities. There will be booths and demonstrations of things like mining hardware and other decentralized tech (to be announced). There will also be the Decentralized Arcade, which features decentralized games with prizes such as Huntercoin and Gamerholic's Grabbit, and an afterparty in the evening.

Come one, come all! The Bitcoin Co-op is holding its Annual General Meeting on February 17 at Decentral Vancouver. We're looking for new members to join our organization and help raise Bitcoin adoption and awareness in British Columbia. At the meeting, we'll be electing our 2016 board of directors and discussing projects and priorities for the year.

All good-standing members of the co-operative are eligible to attend, run in the election, and vote for their peers. To join us, you can register for membership today by filling out the following form and paying a one-time fee of $20 (in Bitcoin), which gives you a lifetime ownership stake in the organization: http://bitcoincoop.org/membership

The Bitcoin Co-op was formed in 2012 by attendees of the Vancouver Bitcoin Meetup group with the intention of providing the community with an inclusive, legally-recognized organization that can be used to collaborate under. The Co-op is member-owned and member-operated; all our members have an equal stake and are encouraged to work together to define and realize our shared goals. Many of our members have gone on to found successful companies and projects related to Bitcoin and are recognized for their contributions to the community.

Is this thread abandoned? do you guys still hold meetups in Vancouver? will be visiting next week.
The Vancouver scene is still quite active, but lately, almost all of the Meet Ups are being held at the Decentral Vancouver hangout spot at Richards and Pender. Since they occur at regular times, people basically just started showing up unannounced, and threads like this became less necessary. If you Google-search "Decentral Vancouver," you find their address and how to get there real quick

Gaming has its roots in tech culture, so you'd think the industry would be leading the Bitcoin crusade. Sadly, this has not been the case, with no worthwhile development houses choosing to adopt it in any way.

Cryptocurrency's utility as a fundraising mechanism has brought in many smaller companies, however, who have chosen to adopt Bitcoin for payment or even launched their own coins. Now some are actively experimenting with true blockchain integration.

Andrew Wagner has started a series on this new gaming genre, and is going to introduce the subject. Then we'll beam in some developers of actual blockchain-based titles for Q&A, and then finally get to playing some games!

The blockchain has many applications besides sending and receiving money. One of the first additional functions to be explored was fundraising; it is relatively easy to request bitcoins, as a donation or with the promise of some future return.

New cryptocurrencies, however, have allowed us to automate the process. Backing a coin with equity (like a stock) is complicated due to securities laws, but many have already designed coins backed by goods or services for which they can be redeemed.

All decentralized applications (like Storj or MAIDSafe) are essentially service providers, with their service being provided in exchange for their associated crypto coin. By releasing the tokens before the application, they effectively pre-sell those services as a way to raise development funds.

This has become a revolutionary new crowdselling and fundraising method, on which all decentralized applications will probably rely. We're beaming in some experts on the topic to discuss their experience with crypto crowdsales, including:

Synereo, the first truly decentralized social media platform. Better than Facebook in every way, they're currently crowselling the AMP tokens needed to promote content (as opposed to paying Facebook).

Factom, a decentralized proof of existence application. They're crowdselling Factoid tokens which can be used to permanently record any data on virtually any blockchain.

We have an interesting treat for you guys: Liberty in North Korea--a non-profit dedicated to bringing refugees out of the country and helping them adjust--is coming here to Vancouver, and looking to board the Bitcoin bandwagon.

Their outreach team will present the truth about life in North Korea (and how we can help) at an event at Decentral Vancouver on March 25. On March 27, India Gate (which accepts Bitcoin, of course) will give 30% of sales to the cause, and we will have drinks to celebrate. Join us if you're in town!

The Bitcoin Co-op is advising them on how best to achieve full Bitcoin integration, but for now they can process donations via Coinbase, and we are collecting them at 1NSDVqDHphybE7WKj7qbEinCfvb7mFj6qV.

We've made some changes for 2015, including our weekly Co-op meetings. They will now occur every two weeks, and to support the Bitcoin economy, will occur at a different Bitcoin venue each time. New and old members of the community can learn and trade ideas about decentralization, and get updates about the Bitcoin Co-op community.

The first meeting of the year will occur at India Gate, being our first Bitcoin venue from 2013. While these meetings will remain open to the public, the Co-op is going to roll out multisig, new partners and announcements, and an official membership registration process. RSVP to come and learn all of the full details!
