We are celebrating Bitcoin Black Friday. You are encouraged to Meet Up for Bitcoin-exclusive discounts throughout the day, but the final event will be held at Pop Opera, the first night club to take Bitcoin! One of the bars inside will be permanently fitted to accept bitcoins using the Co-op's merchant POS system, and--just for this occasion--you will get 1/3 of your cover price ($15 fiat) for paying in Bitcoin. Participating Meet Up organizers will occasionally offer free drinks at their discretion, as is customary.

Time: Friday, 10 PM
Place: Pop Opera Nightclub, 686 West Hastings Street

Does anyone want to go to the coffee shop with the ATM tomorrow? I'm staying at the Hyatt which is three blocks away from it, so that's where I'll be in the morning!
There are always lots of people at the ATM--trust me. Also:

Bitmaster's Master the Coin presentation is coming up. This event is for those who have a general understanding of bitcoins. Speakers will focus on opportunities and issues associated
with the Bitcoin ecosystem. See their promo video: http://www.videopr.ca/bitmaster-promo-1/

Time: Tuesday, 6 PM
Place: StRut Studios, 203-910 Richards Street

LibertyMingle is an upcoming gathering of libertarians, anarchists and like-minded people. As you might expect from such a demographic, their venue the Cobalt now takes Bitcoin. Come enjoy drinks, music, discussions and cool people. "Relax and leave the state behind."

I raised the RSVP cap to 35 and we already have one person on the waiting list. This event will be crowded, but that's better for the Japanese TV crew that is coming to see the Bitcoin community. Please still RSVP if you want to come, because if people drop out, those on the waiting list will be bumped up for admittance.

Due to popular demand, I have raised the RSVP cap for the upcoming Bestie event to 30 people. This means it will be crowded and we're going to try to take over the whole venue. Please behave yourselves and keep in mind that I will have some very special guests joining us this day. No news interviews for troublemakers Wink

I remembered to take photos, this time. I got shots of the whole group, some newcomers, the some Bitcoiniacs and Robocoin representatives, and the robot that makes your noodles. Check them out: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.482962381802607.1073741833.422543557844490&type=1

Thanks to the Bitcoiniacs, the world's first ATM has arrived in Vancouver! This Tuesday (at the Waves at Smithe and Howe, starting 9 AM), we're having a media event to celebrate, and lots of press and Bitcoin entrepreneurs will be there. Come network and get your quote in the papers!

It used to get a bit hot inside Bestie, but now that it's getting colder, we're going to have another event, there. Come inside and rejuvenate yourself with an authentic German mug of beer with sausage! They take Bitcoin, as usual.

When: Monday, November 18th, from 3:00 - 6:00 PM
Where: Bestie Sausage Parlour, 105 East Pender Street, Vancouver BC

In case you didn't already hear, Old Ginger is now the first Chinese restaurant in Canada to accept Bitcoin! So we're going to celebrate, of course! Old Ginger has an accommodating owner who has stocked his fridge full of beer for us to relax in a casual environment, and (if it's rolled out in time) he will be using an open source payment system developed by our very own Bitcoin Cooperative. They also have an awesome robot that makes the noodles! This restaurant is part of a chain, so if we show them Bitcoin means business, Bitcoin may spread!

When: Saturday, November 2nd, from 5:00 - 10:00 PM
Where: Old Ginger, 514 West Broadway Street, Vancouver BC

Not abandoned. I took a little hiatus while planning the CoinFest and dealing with some other things.  The CoinFest was posted in a different thread. The Networking Through Bitcoins event has continued as normal; I just forgot to post it. Check it out on Meet Up--Vancouver's Bitcoin entrepreneur's and professionals gather at Central Bistro this Thursday, starting at 6:30 PM: http://www.meetup.com/bitcoinvan/events/136389362/

Thanks for reminding me!

We're trying something new, this week. Bitcoin nightclubs! We were able to arrange for entrance to be payable in Bitcoin, but we can't push too hard for the bar inside to accept without some guarantee that Bitcoiners are interested. This event will function as a test to gauge Bitcoiner interest in clubbing: http://www.meetup.com/bitcoinvan/events/134324172/

Date: Saturday, August 17
Starting time: 10:00 PM
Place: Gossip Nightclub, 750 Pacific Boulevard

Everyone gets a discount and free drink(s). I will take an extra couple bucks off if you pay in BTC. I didn't post that on Meet Up because they might be watching Meet Up, and I'm forbidden to do that. Wink

I lived in vancouver for about 12 years up until 2003 when i moved to victoria, but as I remember ANZA club was always amenable to grass-roots type of causes and organizations such as the bitcoin meet-up group. I went to many many fundraisers and charity events there, and I believe they have a very reasonable rental, door/bar split deal for the larger upstairs ballroom. the downstairs club would be good for smaller groups. you should look into it. its right near main and broadway, the heart of mount pleasant!

as for now i continue to try and promote btc here on the island, but people here are an odd combination of ignorant, arrogant, and obstinate. The anarchist bookstore wanted to hear NOTHING about it (!) when I approached them (go figure). It's like the people here think they are too smart to be open to any sort of idea that might be new to them. Victoria can be a real hick-town backwater. I'm having slightly better luck with some of the larger artist-run centres here...i will post any developments when and if they come!

It's Bitcoin Networking Time again at Central Bistro. The owner, Doug Taylor, is pretty cool (http://globalnews.ca/news/775078/vancouver-businesses-jump-on-the-the-bitcoin-bandwagon/), and they always accept Bitcoin. This will be a great chance to meet active players in the Bitcoin economy, learn from their experience, and establish new enterprises: http://www.meetup.com/bitcoinvan/events/132503672/

Greetings, Bitcoin community! Now that our Cooperative is hosting in excess of 4-5 events per month--plus another event that repeats on a weekly basis--we have decided it would be spammy and impractical to start a new thread for every single one. From now on, each new Meet Up event will be announced here, in a new post. We may announce the repeating event once a month, or so, but not every week, since its schedule is predictable, anyways. Now, without further ado, here are two events:

Bollywood Night will be an opportunity to watch a Bollywood movie for free, while dining on fine Indian cuisine all paid for in Bitcoin! (http://www.meetup.com/bitcoinvan/events/133323022/) In fact, India Gate was the first Indian restaurant in the whole world to accept BTC! One interesting thing to note is that this is a joint event: two other, non-Bitcoin Meet Ups with whom we are affiliated will be attending. This means we have to be on our best behavior when it comes to selling bitcoins and paraphernalia (other Meet Ups don't like salesmen), but gives us the opportunity to mingle with non-Bitcoiners and spread the word in a friendly environment. This will occur Saturday, August 10 starting at 8 PM. Address: 616 Robson Street.

Next up, on Sunday, it's Bitcoin Yoga Sundays! (http://www.meetup.com/bitcoinvan/events/133882272/) As you might surmise, this occurs every Sunday. It starts at 9 AM, but you must be 10 minutes early. Class ends at 10 AM. It occurs on the grassy area in-between Kitsilano Pool and Kitsilano Yacht Club. The owners of Pacific Bliss are extremely passionate about Bitcoin--they were the first business in Western Canada to adopt--and you get 66% off if you pay with BTC! This event has an RSVP cap and requires pre-registration.

For up-to-date information on the Bitcoin movement in Vancouver, you can always check our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/bitcoincoop. A full list of merchants can be found on our website (http://vanbtc.ca/merchants), but much of the information is not up-to-do date, and it is still undergoing renovations. Our Facebook is newer, anyways, and businesses deciding whether or not to accept Bitcoin check its traffic levels to confirm that there is a customer base. Wink
