Opening multiple threads on same topic is big problem on this forum, and this is especially evident in some boards that are marked as spam boards. Given the current situation, it is logical that COVID-19 is a hot topic throughout the forum, but I suggest that the moderators leave only one thread in each board, based on the one that was first started. Alternatively everything can be combined into one topic and moved to an off-topic, which will only temporarily resolve the situation, because in a few days everything will look like it did before.

The situation is somewhat better in Serious discussion regarding the virus, but only because the signatures are not displayed there.

It is but obvious that people gonna put more topics regarding it as we are under lockdown and we have nothing on our mind.

However,

The only solution I see here is to make rules more stringent against what to be posted and where!

Tell the moderators to PIN a topic regarding Covid-19 stating that the topics will be removed if they are not worthy OR it is duty of OP to create self-moderated topic so that they can control whats being posted.

It will surely prohibit shitposting.

This is how Politics & Society looks like.

You've missed one  Grin

The title might not be with corona but it's still about it.

Now, nothing is going to stop this flood of topics, not until the whole madness with the virus stops. It's the same during a bull run, we're spammed with hundreds of topics where will the moon be, during a crash, is bitcoin dead? but this thing is on a another level.
The whole world is looking at this, it is normal that the are people who feel the need to open a topics to try and make their voice heard.

Just as it's normal around here for all those topics to be full of spammers  Grin
Two choices, report, and if report isn't working, ignore!

The forum is being COVIDed

What's that, covered in covids?  Grin

I don't know about the others threads but the first one marked in the OP is legit.
Calling the Bitcoin community to help battle COVID-19 is self moderated and the OP really keeps it clean, already 9 spam posts deleted.
The thread has a real purpose of helping scientists to solve medical problems using CPU power of everyone who is willing to help.

I agree that the covid-19 is a perfect excuse for the spammers to generate shitposts.

If someone finds a thread that is not useful and has the potential to cause a lot of spam posts, report it to the moderator to follow up. Is not this action we already know together and with this we can try to make the forum more conducive and clean of threads and spam posts.

Some other users might ignore the thread by not participating in posting so the thread wont appear. I believe this is the right solution and we as users should try to make this forum a good place for discussion and it all starts with ourselves before we apply it to others.

I don't think the discussion part of Bitcoin is just attacked by the corona virus topic, almost evenly throughout the BitCointalk forums.
Of course, panic is everywhere and we all want to find the best solution and some of them dont care about the effects that will occur in the forum. It is a mistake if we let them continue to make something that is not useful both in the form of threads and posts. Report to moderator and ignore threads and I am sure this will be more useful and useful than we also contribute to threads.

I think we can call them viruses of viruses. The harms and effects of Corona are really worrying, we are witnessing the worst disease in human history. But instead of acting, they took advantage of its influences to create meaningless topics, not just for Corona. Whenever a big event happens, a bunch of bullshit topic will be created there. It is like the viruses are sabotaging this forum  Roll Eyes I was no longer interested in the Bitcoin Discussion section, 90% of the topics were trash.

This is similar to our local section as it is becoming polluted with multiple Corona Virus threads that is being created once there is a big news locally and or internationally. I also can't blame these people who are trying to rationalize their opinion about Corona Virus because most of the people here are being affected globally. Here's a what our local section do..

One of the Filipino local member sent a message to our moderator to create a mega thread that tackles every issues and news about corona virus to decrease redundant topics that is being created. The goal here is to decrease similar threads but not necessarily prohibit of creating another thread. Or maybe after creating a Covid - 19 megathead, locking newly created similar threads would be very appropriate  Cheesy

Also some of the threads are worth reading just to waste my time since I don't have anything else to do...and our country is currently in a lockdown.

It's a global issues, it's everywhere because it's that serious. Even most of the intelligent peoples around the world would be most probably discussing about COVID-19 and it's impact. I don't find any other issues to be more risky for me, not even red tags, so loads of threads are acceptable IMO.

the entire internet is being "spammed" with topics about Corona virus it is not just bitcointalk. every other forum you visit, you will see numerous topics about this subject. if it were any other way then it would have been understandable to single bitcointalk out. additionally when considering the fact that many believe the recent bitcoin price drop (which was huge) is related to Corona virus in one way or another, it is understandable to see so many people talking about it.

I'm luckily not on that list but I feel my thread in P&S was called for at the time, I had a quick look and couldn't find anything similar on the front page and I wanted to inform and have a discussion.

EUROPE are facing huge problems with this virus at least, it's understandable to see the amounts of threads. I'd offer a suggestion to tackle this be that we have threads at the top of each section for coronavirus discussion, we could even link them all as pinned threads (for now) and have them all redirect to a topic in off topic or politics and society (and without sigs and avatars being shown).

Everyone seems quite worried throughout the whole of western europe at least to the implications of this virus and its effect on daily lives with most firms being forced to close and compensated/lent resources interest free for the time they're shut. A lot of people are confused at to what they should be doing and want to try to vent in these times or find something even remotely productive for them to do.

And for most threads that are deleted, there's going to be some angry mob on meta going "my post got deleted what can I do?" and if that's not more annoying than coronavirus discussion (which quite frankly I've ignored most of the other topics and can't really understand why you guys can't) then this really got out of hand fast...

This isn't a normal circumstance, go away and come back in 2 weeks if it botheres you so much otherwise just leave people to try to rationalise what they want to.

Those topics should be moved to offtopic or trash.
I also noticed several suspicious topics asking for crypto payments, miracle fake anti-virus herbs, apps with fake covid tracking, virus shitcoins... all junk

'The right to privacy matters'
Fact) Most posts on bitcointalk are made to earn coin via signature campaigns.

So  for the first time in all of our live's  there is a true world wide issue. Just like BTC  this virus does not give a fuck about borders.

And people  in this thread want to ban postng on it.

No just ban signatures for the next 2 weeks.

The bullshit earn money for a signature  posts go by by.

I for one have zero issues  with the corona-v posts  even the end of the world whack a doodle ones are fine by me.

I vote for a 2 week signature lock down.

There are 14 topics in "Bitcoin discussion" 17 in "Economics"
Pretty boring, it's so repetitive, worse than when the Merits system was added.

They're turning the boards to "Epidemiology discussions". While it can have relations with the worldwide economy etc I don't see the need to create endless numbers of topics with COVID-19, at least it's better to have only 1 topic about it and we can all discuss in. The forum is being COVIDed

Merge all topics in 1 or trash all the latest to keep 1...
 don't know
The reason is simple and obvious. Most of those people do not care about discussing the actual subject. It is merit farming and sig. campaign spam.

99.9% Coronavirus trends every place where people involved, I don't think its a spamming as you all know this is just period which passes even if we don't know until when, but we can't ignore how different economy affected by the virus and those people try to look that in a different perspective if it affects Bitcoin or not the trends are not only in bitcointalk every news worldwide and forums, the trends are even in the heads of people and every class.
Every time when some issue passes involve in economy  mostly touch Crypto and those period topics about the issue prevail.

Many of you says shitpost yours at high Rank which means some your here for a long time which I believe you saw things like this. Although I agree with you it's too much  saying About CoronaVirus
