So someone has bought these obscure TLD's and now they are reselling them for $5000 a pop. There must be some really gullible people that would fall for this or else they won't be doing such a stunt  Grin

The way domain squatting works, you register a bunch cheap and then ask a very high price.

It only takes one sale at a really high price for you to easily pay the reg / rereg fees for all the domains that didn't sell *and* make a profit.

Illogical thinking like that found in the post I quoted before this post are why they can get really high prices for some of the domains.

Don't buy from squatters.

using free TLD even a premium domain like bitcoin.ga is not cool, many developer still just consider it as a trashy domain, that wouldn't gain an interest,i honestly would prefer the .com even not premium rather than  .ga or even worse .tk

There is nothing technical about .com that makes it better than any other TLD and furthermore, there are a ton of trashy scammy sites on .com

The complete lack of logic in the general population is just mind boggling.

The .com etc... are not available that's why the default price is shown, the less popular extensions are for sale but I doubt they would get the requested amount as it seems so high for country-specific extensions.

That is normal price for big website names or extensions. If you place it high in Google you can do efforts with that extensions.

Definitely, Bitcoin is a very popular name and it would be worth tremendous amounts of money, all linked or related popular codes like co.uk, .co etc... have already been taken and even the less popular are worth huge amounts of money.

I paid $8.59 for BitcoinUncovered.com - I expect there are other usable Bitcoin names still unregistered if you spend time looking.

Here's one that I've just noticed. BitcoinTrivia.com - could make an interesting site about tit-bits of info about Bitcoin and it's history.

A SPECIAL DOMAIN IS A DOMAIN THAT CAN ONLY BE REGISTERED FOR A FEE, BECAUSE THE DOMAIN IS SHORT OR CONTAINS A MEANINGFUL DICTIONARY WORD. SPECIAL DOMAINS ARE OF GREAT VALUE!

People can basically ask ANY price for their domain, but that doesn't say the domain is worth that amount. There are people with average (less than $100) valued Bitcoin related domains, but they are asking insanely high amounts as $10,000 and some even $100,000. Pure madness. Cheesy

Yeah I really don't care if the domain is .ga. I would much rather a .com domain but that is probably going to be even more expensive.

Trading car = car.com? gold = gold.com/metal.com? oil = oil.com?

Maybe we will not need any domain that contain bitcoin afterall...

Most people do not even know, you get other extensions like, .ga and .gq and they will fall back on the extensions they do know, which is .com or .net and the people who sell these domains know that. Why would you buy a no-name brand, if you can buy a brand name, default domain? I always look at the extension, before I visit a site and if the extension is something other that .com or one of the more popular extensions, I do not trust them. If a person cannot afford to pay for a decent domain name, he probably has some other issues too.

$5000 is crazy. most web developer if not all will still prefer the .com extension. hell i even write bitcointalk.com when i tried to visit this forum which people would probably feel for it as well.
what does even .ga mean by the way?

It's always better to buy a .com domain instead of buying a free TLD like these pricey domains. most of the search engines, specially Google, still don't think they are good and hence you can't expect mush of search traffic.

Always go for high level domains like .com .net .org kind of domains.

Does the average internet user really give a shit about the last 2-3 letters of the website they're visiting? As long as it turns up on google and chrome don't send me away from it then I'm game to give it a visit. The whole domain fetish world lives in another dimension.

i agree. i also find these buying and selling of domains a little strange.
it doesn't matter if it is called bitcoin.com or myNewBitcoinDomain.com if the website is interesting to me i will bookmark it and use it that way.
besides when you search about something the search engine is not providing you results by looking at the domain name, it can be about bitcoin with domain name called blahBlah.biz

If bitcoin can take off, will have btc or bitcoin become a TLD.
Like free.bitcoin, or earn.bitcoin, or pizza.bitcoin, exchange.bitcoin...
