Thanks for the update as I've been watching this project for quite some time and agreed, I was under the impression you did a good job sealing/placing the cache.  Smiley

Let me know if you're interested in having others help with hiding items in other continents as I'd be available for East Coast US cache placement.

Interesting that most of the rocks look to be in the same place except the rock which was holding the container.
That's what I see also. Look at this other picture from page 1. I took this just before placing the rock over it. You can see the cache itself. I made it as waterproof as I could. It's in a sealed box with heavy tape over the seal.

It looks to me like it should be visible in the photo geschtonkenflapped took. It may still be around there somewhere. It may have been washed away, it may have been thrown out by someone who thought it was trash? It could also be in the possession of someone who took it and just kept the wallet. If so, they have until 2018 to move it to an address they control. Otherwise I will move it to another wallet hidden somewhere else in the world.

I am looking at a crazy game next time. I may hide identical paper wallets on a few continents. Then it becomes a race to be the first one to find and transfer. That voids the other wallets. Although I may offer small rewards for finding the voided wallets.

Very nice find geschtonkenflapped!   Grin

It's a shame the cache wasn't there when you searched.  Rodeo - was the cache weighted down so it could not float away?
I placed it under a rock where I thought the sea could not wash it away. It is the rock with the x on it in this photo:
If you look at geschtonkenflapped's photo below, the rock seems to have been moved.  Huh

I recently visited Iceland and having come across this post a while ago, I thought I would go and hunt for for the geocache before leaving. But it seems like it has disappeared!

Disappointing! Beautiful country though, highly recommend a visit and thought that this was an interesting experiment
Aww. no. Sad  You were definitely in the right spot. It looks like the rock was moved. By a person, the sea?
Well, I feel I should honor the terms of this and wait till 2018.  It is possible that someone took it and has simply not moved the coin. Some person might want totally anonymous money by not revealing themselves and claiming the .01BTC photo proof.
If we get to 2018 and no claim has been made I will move the coin and pay YOU the .01BTC photo reward. You were clearly there and the first one to prove it.
I'm a little bummed about it being gone. I really wanted a complete story of what happened.  Undecided

Its a shame that a ticket to Iceland is more expensive then the prize  Grin
Well Iceland is a beautiful country, it's worth going even if you didn't find OP's Bitcoin cache.

One year left!

As per the note in the geocache I will move the bitcoin if it is unclaimed by 2018, one year from today. I think I will continue to offer a small reward for finding and photographing the cache after 2018. As far as I know the paper wallet is still just sitting there. We can see that the money has not moved anyway.

Interesting idea!
I was wondering if anyone was trying to do this anytime soon with only QR codes.  Geocaching is a unique and a intuitive experience when someone wants more education on learning new things about Bitcoin. Since these things could endure the rain and other whether issues, there shouldn't be any problem promoting/locating.

I wouldn't be that surprised if these things were in every State and Country.

Good Job.

Maybe more small treasures or something fun like multiple wallets with the same private key, so that it is a race to find and move the money.

Main Treasure Unclaimed .1BTC, Main Treasure proof Photo unclaimed .01BTC
Time hidden:     119 days as of Jan. 1, 2017
BTC found:            .03BTC
BTC still hidden:     .11 (Now worth $107.55!)

If you remove the funds from that address, you should leave a note/message to inform people on why this was done. Yes, it should be

removed if it is unclaimed for too long, but just in case someone does find it and access that address... then they will know why it was moved.

In future, when you do this, I would include a message with the stash, to tell anyone that this treasure has a expiry date.  Wink
Yes, that is a good point.  And I did do that. You can read the letter I enclosed in the original post of this thread.

If you post this on geocaching.com it will get found pretty fast I think, most caches there don't last more than a couple of days, even in some pretty remote areas.
I've done this a few times myself. Too bad I don't live in Iceland Smiley

I tried but got very sick of their system. It requires weeks of waiting for confirmations and a stupid set of rules about how the cache needs to be set up. After like three weeks I gave up and deleted my account. It was serious ridiculous. They would ask how I will "maintain the cache". When I wrote back that this a one time thing and I can't do that, the response would take a week and be "how will you maintain the cache"?  Roll Eyes

100 days...

I would not be surprised if it would take more than a year. Iceland is not densely populated and the probability of an Bitcoiner from Iceland becoming aware of this thread is pretty low. And just booking a flight to Iceland to search for $ 80 worth of Bitcoin is not an attractive option by now. Maybe when Bitcoin surpasses $10k it will become more attractive for foreigners as well.

Maybe you should consider announcing your hidden treasure on other platforms (reddit or Bitcoin news sites) as well. That would increase the probability of search and discovery. This thread has just been read about 1600 times - that's simply not enough exposure considering that many people open the thread repeatedly.

Anyway, great idea!

ya.ya.yo!
You may very well be right. I was worried it would only take hours and would go too fast, silly me.
Even though there are not a lot of bitcoin users in Iceland there are mega-mines right in the same town as this cache. So I know some people there know about it.  Where are they?
Maybe I will announce this in some other places. I was hoping that someone here would get it though. In any case it will be there until 2018. Unless the sea claims it.

Needs much larger prizes.

I believe anybody can send funds to the wallet to increase the prize, 0.1BTC is what RodeoX contributed.  Wink

You sir are correct!
However it may not be a great idea. Here is why.
I have a copy of the private key that controls this balance. The reason I kept a copy is in case this is never claimed. It could be destroyed by the ocean or weather or whatever. If no one claims it by 2018 I will assume it is gone and move the cache to another place on the earth. At that point it would be very hard to return any additional funds sent to the address. So you would have to commit to giving those funds away even if it means they are moved to another location later. You would also have to trust me not to just take the funds. I'm not going to do that, but you don't know me and blind trust is not a bitcoin value.

Don't worry, it won't be there forever. The second this becomes profitable for me I'll book a flight and get to have a vacation with your bitcoins paying the way Smiley
lol, yes. I am keeping it there even if it rises in price to a million USD.
You may also want to look into Iceland air if you fly to Europe. They have a layover deal that let's you stop in Iceland. Since this cache is only 15mins. from the airport you could grab it with a cab ride. You may even be able to walk there.

It is still there just waiting for you to come up with a plan. No strings, no rules. Just take it and it's yours.
