It has not really to do with just crypto as the same basically happens with stocks. If people can't handle seeing the price go down while they are invested, they have no clue about what risks they expose themselves to.
Another thing why they might feel bad when seeing the value go down, comes from the point that they are (heavily) over-invested in Bitcoin or whatever other asset.

It depends. I personally believe in Bitcoin's long term potential, which is basically a solid motivation for me to take a long term position into Bitcoin regardless of the current price.
If the price is $1000 I'll buy it directly. If the price is $1200 I buy it directly as well. What I basically try to say is that the $100-$200 extra that I pay is no big deal as my target is in the higher $2000-$3000 range.
The $2000-$3000 range is just an example btw.. It could be $10,000 or even $100,000. It just depends on what targets you aim at.

For long term trading, there are only two times when you have to worry about the fluctuation. It's on the time that you're about to invest your money, and at the time that you're about to convert your coins. Whatever happens in between is totally irrelevant since you cannot go back to the past.
Actually, even in short term trading, this can be applied as well. Within 24 hours, a lot of things can happen. But only two things actually matter, the starting and finishing point.
Some say that when you are going to trade long term, might as well take advantage of the price fluctuations so in the end, you'll have much more bitcoin than you invested. But to some people, fluctuation have a great effect on them even if they are not doing trading. They feel some loss because the value of their cryptos decreased. They don't just realize that i how cryptocurrency works.
