Good Day medium, there is something I will want us to be aware of since bitcoin is a life-changing investment some people are taking it as property, I say this because I overhear someone making a call and saying he has 2BTC and that's is his property.
Now that bitcoin is more valuable in most countries, that shouldn't be a property it should be an investment, those who see bitcoin as property should learn more or read more about bitcoin and how it works.
To me, bitcoin is an investment and also a treasure, I don't know if am wrong or right.
But if someone may ask you, what do you call BITCOIN?
If you can call something your treasure doesn't that make it your property? If you own your Bitcoin in your wallet that's non-custodial, doesn't that make you the rightful owner? You are mixing things up OP.

Early Bitcoin investors that hold Bitcoin since 2012 can easily say that their Bitcoin is their property, a property that doesn't depreciate in time, I don't see anything bad about calling Bitcoin a property, it's mine, I own the private key, that makes it my property.

I think what he meant by 'own property' is that he owns it and no one has control over it. It's his personal property. And keeping them securely should make it personal property for sure. I am not sure what he meant by that, but let's say that he meant property as in compare to land or house property. That is considered as an investment too. Because you are investing in something to gain profit in the future. And what I can say is, Bitcoin is someone's personal asset. They can call it whatever they like. It will not change the value, or it's ability. It will still remain as Bitcoin.

Simply put; Bitcoin is an asset similar to a property.it digitally represents your ownership of a value or right to something.bitcoin is a digital asset and your asset is your property.

First off, bitcoin is NOT an investment, inherently.  I have tried explaining this I can't say how many times over the years.  Satoshi created bitcoin as a digital asset, something to replace and aging and dying banking system.  Bitcoin IS absolutely "property".  Why isn't it is my answer to you.  If you have a handful of $100 dollar bills, would you not consider that to be your property? It's the same principle here.

Well, okay. We have several hundred bucks notes, why shouldn't we consider them as an investment if we have no plans of immediate spending? Even if something is fiat money it can be an investment asset as well. Bitcoin is money, bitcoin is a financial system and for some bitcoin can easily be an investment asset also. If you can crack nuts with a microscope then that microscope becomes a nutcracker even if it is not the most rational idea of its usage.

bitcoin is indeed an asset, a statement like that is not wrong.
in my opinion bitcoin has a very broad meaning. because if it is interpreted as an asset yes it is indeed an asset, then if it is interpreted as property?

Quote
Property refers to something that is usually known as an entity in relation to the ownership of a person or group of people over an exclusive right. The main forms of this property include real property, personal property, and intellectual property.
Wikipedia source

what I caught bitcoin can also be interpreted as property, because the bitcoin that we own or that belongs to anyone, it is their absolute right of ownership and it is their personal wealth.

in essence bitcoin can be interpreted as an asset or property.

If he actually has that 2BTC on his account he can call it whatever he wants, calling it his property actually makes sense since it's here property any way he has the private key to access it. I mean you can call it an investment, treasure, digital currency, property, assets, etc. and it would still make sense. For me, bitcoin, for now, is an investment because it was a great investment in my experience and not until it reaches its limit maybe it can be a digital currency that we can realistically use for every transaction because at the moment the price of it is so volatile and it's risky to buy or use it as a currency.

I guess it's fine as long as it doesn't make a negative image in Bitcoin since a lot of people do have a negative perception of it just because it's used in many illegal activities.

Your question is kind of funny, because if I may ask, please, What is the difference between a property, an investment, and a treasure? Because if you could analyze them all you will notice that they almost mean the same thing, since a property is also an investment (e.g house).
However here are some definition

Property is any tangible or intangible thing that is owned by someone.

Investment is an item or asset acquired for the main aim of generating income

Treasure is a quantity of precious metals, or other valuable objects

So, all been said you could notice that Bitcoin has same the characteristic as any of these three, as it is intangible, generate income and has value.

But if someone may ask you, what do you call BITCOIN?
If anyone asks me, I will only say that bitcoin is a currency that has value and we can buy goods, services or transact with it, besides that we can also make bitcoin an investment asset whose price is determined by supply and demand. Almost from all sides bitcoin has similarities with fiat currency in general but bitcoin is a fully decentralized virtual currency without third party interference and developed with technology so that it distinguishes it from fiat currency.

Bitcoin is a digital gold and therefore can be termed or tagged a treasure because it is a store of value. Bitcoin is no doubt a volatile asset and risky too but as an investment as many would see it that way, it had the potentials of appreciating in a long run which the decision is left for you as a holder to make.

In all bitcoin is a treasure and a valuable digital asset which would yield profit for holders in a long run when bought and held for a long time.

Bitcoin is an investment in the future and could be a treasure in the future,
Bitcoin isn't only an asset in the future, Bitcoin already becomes an asset nowadays. Bitcoin can be a long-term asset and a short-term asset, it depends on you to choose which type of asset.

I disagree if Bitcoin is considered property because property is very much different from investing in Bitcoin, although both will indeed be our assets in the future but the way both work is very different, if we do not explore the crypto world maybe we can think of Bitcoin as property of the future, Because Bitcoin is also an asset of our future, despite the differences in our thinking but the purpose is the same.
Yep. Bitcoin and property are a bit different. Bitcoin is a volatile digital asset, it has a high risk. While property seems to have a more stable value, it can be easier to predict the change in property value. Although both are assets, but it seems a different type asset.

Investment is a name suitable for Bitcoin, in fact, it is a currency as it was meant to be.

No currency is as volatile as bitcoin, if it becomes stable, I will agree with you. Until now, Bitcoin has been nothing more than a speculative tool, a tool to create a market that is manipulated, with high volatility, to attract all gamblers to join with the dream of getting rich quickly. Bitcoin is going completely in the wrong direction from what Satoshi created it.

It is already established that Bitcoin is a currency, ever think why it is called cryptocurrency?  Bitcoin function as money, they are also called a store of value even though they perform poor in that aspect due to high volatility.  Although Bitcoin is created to perform as currency, people see it as a speculative asset that is good for investment because of the potential for profit.  But still we cannot deny the fact that Bitcoin as currency performs well in terms of cheap transfer, boundless and decentralized.

I will only accept on the side that you said, bitcoin is a treasure. I will not take bitcoin as a property, bitcoin is asset which is valued more than any other properties by the owner. Taking as an investment. I call bitcoin as an asset or an online currency. But if anyone wants to call it with different name, the person is free to do that. Because bitcoin itself is free for everyone to use. And the other way round, people might refer bitcoin as a property and all base on the connotation use by the speaker. Property for the speaker might means "own".

It is that this depends on how people see bitcoin, obviously it is a treasure, but it is a growing treasure that gives us benefits over time,it is something worth buying, saving and waiting for, the rest must be done life normally as we have it, there are some who have bitcoin and start to do other things like go find some kind of strong Emotions like play in casinos or maybe do trading which is not a bad thing but bitcoin is one of the best inventions of man, it seems like its out of another world.

Lack of context from OP, we don't know if the meaning of "property" OP wants to say is the physical establishment or real state something or on another side is it's real Bitcoin and the "property" there is the physical backups of the keys of the wallet or maybe it is a hardware wallet, we don't know.
Or maybe we can also relate here to some real state properties are for sale using Bitcoin as a payment method, maybe that's an example.
What OP was trying to say is that he heard someone who owns some Bitcoins and he was calling those Bitcoins to be his property, and I don't find anything wrong with that. Though the primary purpose behind Bitcoin's creation was for it to be a currency or a digital payment option that would be totally decentralized, people can call it whatever they wish as it has more use cases now than it did back in the day.

Bitcoin today can be an investment, a payment option, a currency used for payments, a store of value, etc. So if someone who owns some of it, they can call it their property as it's theirs to have and they are in possession of it.

What Medium? This is Bitcointalk mate but moving on... There is no problem if someone calls Bitcoin as their property but I am sure they did not mean as a house or a land because they are also called as property. 2 BTC in most countries is already huge that someone can already buy a property. It's also possible that those people are planning to buy a property with their Bitcoins? A property is also considered as an investment but I think the term property is more superior.

You even call Bitcoin as a treasure there but did those guys complain about it? That was still fine. Just don't call Bitcoin something negative like a scam because that wasn't acceptable anymore and many Bitcoin supporters are going to bash you for that.

Bitcoin is considered a public property.  Because it is an investment capital.  Currently, this currency is used by creators all over the world.  It can be used as a personal asset.  Bitcoin can be used online or offline. Bitcoin is also called digital currency by some. than a general nomenclature widely used in crypto and investment's environment.

Bitcoin has different definitions depending who is classifying it. Some call it a digital asset or currency. Most countries consider it an asset, while few consider it a currency (legal tender). The "treasure" classification is more figurative and is more related to a personal experience and point of view of a specific adopter, than a general nomenclature widely used in crypto and investment's environment.

Bitcoin is a long term investment, just like gold which has been an investment for many people for a long time. But if someone says that bitcoin is their property for them, that's also okay because maybe they think that bitcoin is something like an investment. Property here means that bitcoin is his, which applies as an investment. So there's nothing wrong with that and it's up to each person's perception. But if you can explain to those people that bitcoin is an investment like gold, that would be even better because it would change how they say it is an investment.
I agree that if you compare bitcoin investment to gold investment compared to the Op bitcoin thought compared to treasure, in my opinion bitcoin and treasure are very much different and don't make sense, that's just my assumption if you don't like it you can cross it out.

In my opinion, it depends entirely on the point of view.....

For those who believe in the priority value of fiat currencies, Bitcoin is just a promising investment (financial asset).  These people are investing in Bitcoin in order to increase their deposit, denominated in fiat currency (for example, in US dollars).

For those who are sure that in the future Bitcoin will become the world's reserve currency and an integral part of the gold and foreign exchange reserves of Central Banks, Bitcoin is not an investment, but an independent value (property).

Such people try to accumulate as many bitcoins as possible in order to become very rich people in the future.
