People are creatures of habit and not anxious to try something new. So its not a question of which is better. Tge question is what are the best ways to help people experience crypto for the 1st time. Then it snowballs from there.

I prefer to be paid in Western Unions, thank you very much.

so you prefer to lose money on stupid expensive fees? for what for a better security? because you feel more regulated and not evading something

some people feel simply dirty using bitcoin, it could be another reason why they avoid it

Sorry, I think you missed my point.  There is no such thing as a "western union" unit of account, which I said I preferred to be paid in.  As in, "please send me 100 western unions".

Bitcoin is a unit of account.  Western union is a company providing communication/financial services.

Do we also compare Bitcoin to Comcast?  Which is better?

The point of the OP is about transaction fees.
So it is much more better to use bitcoin rather than wester union.
Unless the receiver does not know about bitcoin and if can't use it.

Sending money through bitcoin is much better than Western Union.
There is no fee (or very low fee - few cents) per transaction.
You can send millions via bitcoin and there is still few cents the fee.

The major advantage of bitcioin is that you can transfer the money yourself. The disadvantage is that it is not widely used.

Another disadvantages is converting into fiat as in many countries local bitcoin converters ask with big price difference compared to current exchange prices. When we have easy fiat conversion or everything available for bitcoin, we can see use of bitcoin more than western union.

The spread between is more than 5% in localbitcoins. This is much larger than exchanges. It is better if we can be paid with bitcoin.

Western Union can work in countries, where you do not have computers etc. It is a bit outdated money transfer system  Grin

Yes. That's a rather major deal. You can send money to the most backward stone age shit hole halfway around the planet and know that it'll arrive. Bitcoin can do a few things but that's a way off yet, if ever.

Bitcoin is more better than Western Union in many ways and there is no comparison between both whether it is about sending charges/cost,ease and freedom.Bitcoin will be main source of remittance in near future because of its unique features. It is already being used mostly for transfer of funds successfully.

But still many people from almost all the countries using western union just because of lack of awareness on bitcoin and it's advantages. This is means they are still rushing to the old trend even they got easiest and cheapest way. It's not fair if we still delaying on spreading word on bitcoin to them.

Simply bitcoin is better than Western Union in all departments. May be bitcoin is created to replace this kind of inter border money transfer in mind. Bitcoin will do better what Western Union so far has performed for people with very less fees.

This is one more good reason and is completely right. Some western union booths can also just be found in cities though, in some countries

I want to play devil's advocate on this.

This is misleading at best. It dose not take into consideration fees the sender might have to pay to get into the blockchain when dealing with a large number of inputs.

Not all transactions are free nor should they be, fees will go up over time as the block reward is reduced.

Nor dose it take into consideration the time it takes to set up and verify an account with a 3rd party money transmitter (exchange) or the fees those 3rd parties charge for their services.
It dose not take into consideration the chance of said exchanges going belly up or getting hacked, this chance is low but its higher then zero.

People need to stop thinking of Bitcoin as a service and more like a tool.
Currently it is VERY hard to buy bitcoins at a fair market price with low fees. The difficulty of buying bitcoin especially for a new avid user is time consuming and costly.

And finally if were being truly honest with ourselves in most cases the bitcoins will be converted back into cash on the other side and require more 3rd parties taking a cut.

Currently its still faster and cheaper to use Western Union when sending small amounts of money, say... $50; prove me wrong.

What ever the ultimate price is, its sure as hell not one cent.

Im not sure about that. Western Union fees can be pretty scammy. Sure you can get screwed while converting fiat to Bitcoin, but ideally you would just get on Bitcoin in the future, then its a whole new game. Once you get the money directly in Bitcoin, there just no chearper way to move money arond the planet. It's the fiat to Bitcoin conversion what keeps us lagging behind.

we both agree Western Union has no soul but nether do these bitcoin 3rd party companies.

It is ridiculous Western Union still exist, they were most expencive 15 years ago and they are still now. Why people don't open eyes and use other ways to send money worldwide? They really dont care, for huge fees?
Western Union is monetizing on discrepancies in money transfers method. Financial services are not working under one standard and thus we encounter problems when we want to send our money abroad. It is really old fashioned approach as we now have internet and I am wondering how still supporting WE in an era of instant funds transfer over internet.
