Again, go ahead and open a local Bitcoin exchange. You'll charge more than Western Union, I guarantee it. Do you think people in many third world countries can expend their Bitcoin or know how? That they have a bank or international credit cards? You need to provide the same service as Western Union, go to a window and get US DOLLARS or local currency. Anything other than that is not easy at all for common folks, let alone for uneducated or tech illiterate people.

If we want Bitcoin to grow or go mainstream (not sure if that's the intention) then we have to realize it may be easy for us to handle but not for everyone. That's why there is very low % of women using Bitcoin. I'm not saying that in the wrong way, the women approval factor is very important and guarantees that the "product" is easy to use on a daily basis.

Then it goes to women approval.  Grin It will be to use if only it is known like a simple dollar in your online money bank. It is just being presented more and more. We have different experiences some of us feell bitcoin is better.

You still don't get it.  Dollars also have zero transaction fees.

Painting bitcoin as a competitor to western union is misdirection at best.

Public coin allows you to hold a verifiable fraction of the world's supply in your hand.
Fiat coin does not allow you to hold a verifiable fraction of the world's supply in your hand.

Get it?

Soon you will be using western union to send bitcoin, then perhaps you will understand.

Well cash to cash has no transaction fees.
The topic is about western union, so basically sending money costs you money.
So it is a huge difference between western union fees and bitcoin tx fees.

Of course, BTC is much more popular.  Grin Western Union is quite popular in some countries, where computers are not popular, because of electricity, Internet connection and so on  Wink

Andreas Antonopoulos has documented this on his speeches, the fact that using Western Union is a direct scam specially for the less fortunate. You are in some country with some slow salary, but the guys at Western Union simply don't give a fuck, they will ask for the same fee. With Bitcoin, you are free to send a smaller free even if it means that it will be a slower transaction. Even on the case of a smaller fee, the transaction will be faster than WU anyway.

This is correct. Plus bitcoin is like 24/7 not like western union here in our country. It closes early and dont have saturdays and sundays. what if you really need it by that day. or someone need it for emergency purposes. Bitcoin is still faster for me.

I like the graphic.  Obviously bitcoin is the better of the two but as others have said it simply at the moment anyway has no visibility when compared to the likes of Western Union, this will change over time but I fear it will be a long process.

No id needed for BTC no opening hours, the positives are endless.  If bitcoin did gain a wider audience then Western Union and all the other fee charging companies would have no choice but to close which is another reason why it will take a long long time before we can rival these companies, there is far too much money invested in these companies and banks for them to just roll over.

BTC is way better than Western Union because of low fees. It's possible to send much lower amounts without fees eating it up.

More over bitcoin is instant and can be used for purchasing too whereas western union is meant for only money transfer. I believe people will switch over to bitcoin completely just because the reason of very much lower fees for any distance transactions.

Where can we find people that use western union and how can we make them aware of bitcoin?

That's a good question! ) We can start from the Wiki page

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Union

and add some links on Bitcoin in the See also section.

We also can go to a forun related to Western Union, like this one

http://www.topix.com/forum/who/western-union

and spam them with Bitcoin praises.

Would it be effective though?  Smiley

As my experience in sending money in the Philippines would say that bitcoin is best in remittances why? Because using western union is it so hassle you need yo line up and it take 30 minutes to 1 hour specially in the 1 Sunday of the month because many of may kababayan recieve there salary to there employer. But in using bitcoin a could say no hassle ay all no need to line up and the fee is lower than the western union.

Yes and many people havent found out bitcoin yet. If only they would know they might be using bitcoin rather than western union.

We need more promotion to accelerate the adoption of bitcoin. The report of recent price rise by media could raise the awareness of bitcoin. Eventually, we should be paid with bitcoin, not other fiats.

It is being promoted more and more due to different advertisements. Social website will also help as long as it will be explained clearly. People are almost always with their iphone, android phones or laptops now. It will be easy to be promoted due to a high number of people using this technologies.

Many people are aware, actually, but the thing is, some are still confused on how to use it. People who are constantly sending money overseas could benefit largely from it only if they take the time to look further into bitcoin.
