You lead and I'll watch you walk away.
The OP has a valid point. I kind of do think of Bitcoin being focused on either America or China. Like the OP points out a British paper was used by Satoshi so we can possibly think Bitcoin was invented by a Brit....which I never ever hear, it's either that Nick Sazabo or some other American guy who people speculate who Satoshi is, and of course that poor Japanese guy. So some bias should be recognised in our assumptions at least.

Also I know quite a few Americans are on this forum but IF we are saying Bitcoin is for the world then please maybe don't assume everyone is from the U.S. The amount of times people have answered me assuming I was American and so have to worry about the FBI, the IRS, the CIA and what congress decides about Bitcoin etc...

I never get anyone say hey we need to worry about MI5 or how the UK National Tax service will process Bitcoin. The OP point was meant to be humorous but I think he has a serious point which is valid. i live in Asia, I'm a Brit and I am always having to explain British English to Americans while I know every damn colloquial of the U.S. We did invent the language after all...might be time to think a bit more globally.

Americans can't do that because they believe they're the center of the universe. Thinking globally for, let's say, a Texan means crossing the border into Mexico on the weekend to buy tequila. lol

I can't believe so many non-Americans come to this forum and contribute to discussions that are clearly meaningless to them. At one point half of the discussion threads were about Coinbase and the other half were about various actions taken by the U.S. Government. Why would a Chinese guy or an Aussie give a shit about some American exchange, American localbitcoins bust or American state making Bitcoin illegal?

We had to take it over because you Brits would just have a cup of tea and talk about crypto for two or three hundred years before doing anything. I always suspected Dr. Who invented Bitcoin. If you look closely at a printed copy of the first page of the database you see an ASCII image of the Tardis.

I went through Satoshi's posts a couple of years ago looking for exactly this, trying to find whether he used English spelling or the Americanised (Americanized) alternative (I was bored).

Unfortunately he switched between the two. Whether this means he was covering his tracks or is just bad at spelling, you'll have to decide for yourself.

Well, thank you.

You have 100% proven my point.

The fact that he used British English spelling at all means he was British. Yanks just don't use British English spelling - full stop (none of that 'period' crap, its bloody well 'full stop').

British English spelling is just not part of their education.

However, a yankee doodle dandy forum would have meant that Satoshi himself was being auto corrected by this bloody forum default language pack.

Have some respect for Satoshi, make the default language British English.

I write and learn British English. However, I have to admit that sometime due to the internet, I'm used to type America English. I tried my best to write British English such as Colour and Learnt. I read that Satoshi Nakamoto uses both Englishes to hide his or her identity. I also read that Satoshi Nakamoto uses both Englishes because Satoshi Nakamoto is controlled by more than a person - some of them might use America English and some might use British English. Whatever it is... This forums should have both languages pack. And the default should be America English since I notice most people here use America English.

Nope you're wrong!
Internet was invented by French in 18th century. (You don't believe me? Check "telegraphy and internet basics".

I hope you post is indeed a joke, as you say in smal letters... If it wasn't I'd like to know why were you so sure that Satoshi was British and why the American spelling of words is wrong Cheesy

Never ending parties are what Im into.
If you want a example of how British English is losing the war look to Canada who used to spell a lot of the words the same. Due to auto correct the British words are being lost. As more of the world adapts to the internet you will see the British wording lose out over time.

I've always been a firm believer in providing options or choice. It would make sense there was a dropdown to select your language, e.g. US English or UK English, similar to how timezones are handled.

You think Brit invented the internet - eh?  lol.

Yep, its official: Sir Tim Berners Lees invented the internet

The title 'Sir' means the internet inventor is a Knight of the British Isles.

At some point Satoshi will be given a Knighthood too. Bookmark this post for future reference.

Even Bill Gates was knighted, so it's not limited to just British citizens.

It was an "honorary" title: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2005/mar/02/usa.microsoft

You know, fake / pretend title, as a way to say thanks for going over and fixing the Queen's PC, personally.

I beg to differ. Sir Tim Berners Lee invented the WORLD WIDE WEB. That is different from the INTERNET. The world wide web allows linking to sites and such. The internet on the other hand is the internetworking system that connects computers and servers to each other. The Internet and its protocols were developed from ARPANET which was created by the US Department of Defense. The Internet is the system by which all of our computers are connected, while the World Wide Web allows us to easily access the files stored on those servers.

If it that makes you sleep better at night, sure.

Just wanted to point out: Hut 8 is very clearly located in Britain Tongue

That's hardly any proof. Plus we don't know the real nationality of the author or who he was anyway. No that any of this matters, what matters is Bitcoin is a transnational currently for the world, stop the nationalist bullshit.

The proof is in the details. The version of the newspaper that is referenced in the Genesis block is one that you could only get from buying it in the shops, locally: like in the UK. I suspect that the newspaper printers people could tell which region the edition is from  Tongue

Unfortunately, my fellow countrymen are very good at inventing things and then letting others take things over and make all the money.  The work ethic does tend to stop at 4pm when the tea lady comes around with some crumpets. All very civilised, but not very productive for the GDP.

Hadn't considered the Dr. Who angle. Thanks, I'll research that right now. Just finish with the tea first.

Bitcoin belongs to the world, no doubt.

But it was invented in Britain.

Evidence 1:

If you could get a copy of the times article that satoshi quoted and mount it in a frame to hang on the wall.

Quote
The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks

An actual copy of the newspaper would also be a "bitcoin collectible" item.

Evidence 2:

Just as the internet was invented by a Brit and then hijacked by the Yanks, so Bitcoin is slowly being hijacked by the Chinese and the Yanks.

I have no major beef about that, as such.

What I do have a beef about is having to correct the British spelling of words on this bloody forum.

For example, the correct spelling of colour, is with a u. This forum has been set-up by Satoshi, a Brit (take a look at your posting times, they are European times), but I am forced to auto correct to the US spelling of color.

That spelling, among many hundreds of other vandalised words, was introduced as a 'fuck you' from the traitorous tail coats who went on to be the 'founding farther's' of America (founding, ha. it was never lost, ask the Native American Indians - see a bunch of thieves).

Satoshi didn't create Bitcoin or this forum so it could be hijacked by the Yanks.

It needs British English spelling by default.

Fix it.

[/rant]

(if you can't see the funny side or take a joke, don't respond)

Typical Brit.  What fucking wanker-asshole.  (not 'arsehole')

This is silly and I'm not sure if you're trolling or not. Bitcoin hasn't been hijacked by anyone and it's free for everyone to use regardless of nationality. So far I've seen no conclusive proof that satoshi was 100% British either. He could have been just trying to throw people off his trail or just living in Britain. Bitcoin is borderless and belongs to the world and that's what's great about it.
