how many more of these topics do we really need! honestly everyday i come here i see a bunch of new topics talking about the same thing. if you think bitcoin is dead then why are you poking a dead body?

don't waste your time, run to safety and use whatever altcoin or fiat you think is alive and kicking. you don't need to give updates of what you do to us.

Bitcoin is gonna die soon because of too high fees and too slow transactions. It is becoming a very bad quality payment system, with no relevant pros in using it.

Now I see 4 different scenarios that could happen in the next months:

  • Bitcoin developers will solve these scaling problems and Bitcoin returns to be the cheap and fast payment system it was some years ago.
  • Bitcoin users will move all their BTCs to the so-called "altcoins". Most of these altcoins are already far better than BTC, regarding technical specs, confirmation time, privacy, etc. Dash, Monero, DOGE, LTC, etc. all of them are better than Bitcoin.
  • Bitcoin transaction will become less and less because its users will just hold their coins. Thus BTC would become a sort of digital asset, with no actual use as a payment system. (Note that Satoshi thought of Bitcoin mainly as an innovative payment system)
  • People will get tired of cryptocoins and move back to the ol' banking system.

Which one do you prefer and which one do you predict?

In this case, I'm sure that bitcoin will not die, people may no longer be fond of it, however, that will quickly end. Bitcoin is going to decide on segwit, and when this happens, every issue will be resolved and bitcoin will continue to grow.

Bitcoin will die because it's community is loyal, stupid and greedy. Satoshi never intended for BTC to be the world's money, he introduced a new technology.  He was aware btc could not survive due to lack of updates.

Monero I think offers nothing that isn't being done better by Zcash. Her obnoxiously loyal trolling community can't save her. I'd put my money on Dash and Zcash due to virtue but I haven't seen the crypto market being driving by rationalism, just brand loyalty.

Lauda, you're a joke. Btc can't even transfer money.  Can't due instant payments. Can't combat the double spend scams and will never be updated to increase capacity or resist quantum computing. Not to mention the problems that will come in the future do to the laws of the universe governing decay....

So the major disadvantage of bitcoin is that it has a loyal community.

No matter how I look at it I can't picture a single situation where loyalty is bad.Probably in the dark ages but that's in the past.
And btc can transfer money, can have fast payments and can combat double spend issues.

Laws of universe governing decay? What the hell is that?

your loyalty to segwit and BU guarantee BTC will not adapt.I'd rather have intelligent, rational people promoting my coin than loyal idiots.

I don't know when these people are going to stop saying that "bitcoin is dead", "bitcoin is gonna die soon", "good bye bitcoin". These people are trying hard to spread misinformation so that they will have chance to buy more at lower price, this is just a scaring tactics so be careful and always remember bitcoin will never die.

yawn...

FUD spreader trying to lower the value of the referential currency...probably because he sold at the 1650 price drop and can't get back in.

Dying in this case is a mad dash for 5k...right?

Let's be optimistic and go for number one. I am totally against number two and four. It is never going to happen that bitcoin users will move to some other coin since there is no close substitute for bitcoin, ethereum is long way back. Also four will not happen becauase cryptocurrencies are no longer small project, they are for long period.
However, if present scenario continues then number three is the end of this journey but community won't let the circumstances come.

I hope so Smiley

There's never something like "all their BTCs" people never work as a single organism. I'm not considering a move to any of the altcoins as long as Bitcoin presents a decent value.

It may happen if the fees are too high, but notice that along with the fees rises the value of Bitcoin.

Impossible. Crypto gives them something the banking system never will: privacy.

I choose this answer: Bitcoin transaction will become less and less because its users will just hold their coins. Thus BTC would become a sort of digital asset, with no actual use as a payment system.

Bitcoin will be the same as Gold . Bitcoin will use as payment asset and the measure of altcoins in the future.

Dont use drugs, there is no way to bitcoin to die, its a bilion market that has a lot investment under it, or any of you believe big miners will let something happen with their money, even if they had already roi? Bitcoin is growing and becoming a legal currencie/ asset soo it will grow even more and yes the delay over transactions will need a solution, once those handled we can relax again.

We will get a solution for sure, the problem is WHEN? Because if we need to wait like 5 years to get the things solved, bitcoin will fade with time, loosing people interest, ect and develop a higher criticism about bitcoin as well.
There would most likely be loss of interest if a solution for the block size is long coming, but Bitcoin isn't going to die, not sooner nor later. Despite the challenges Bitcoin is facing, we can see its capitalization rather on the increase and presently it is worth over $30 Billion, that is a clear sign for confidence and trust and cannot be easily trashed, because people usually put their money where their mouth is!

No matter how I look at it I can't picture a single situation where loyalty is bad.
There are many situations in which loyalty is bad, including when two groups that are loyal are against each other (such as when excessive patriotism leads to wars).

A loyal community in this case is a good thing.  We can't be jumping between coins every time some tiny little problem comes up - if we did, we'd all be migrating to a new coin every week.  It's important that we're able to adapt the coin we have while it's still immutable enough to avoid potentially malicious upgrades.  I think Bitcoin strikes that balance fairly well.

I'm sure the community will think to force BU hardfork or activate UASF even they can't earn lots of support (50% or more) rather than stuck at current condition with high fees and drama and i support that even though it will split the blockchain and crashing bitcoin price.
So, the problems will be resolved and both party (SegWit and BU) don't have to fight anymore Roll Eyes

If I were you I won't be so sure since it will mainly depend on how the current members deals with the current situation and the prospective new member that will enter the bitcoin business and their willingness to continue. There will always be a way to avoid the demise of bitcoins by adjusting to the present status of bitcoins.

High fees will not kill bitcoin by any means because so far I can get my transaction done after all with all the other advantages bitcoin I can still live with the high fees however, the only thing I will see as discouragement and not absolute challenge is the duration of time it takes for transaction to get confirm which now ranges from 3 to several hours.

This is not the first time i heard that bitcoin will be die people already said that some years ago even hundred times. I'm thinking the same thing with you op that these scaling issue might be killed bitcoin but the reality is bitcoin become more popullar my friends are talking about it right now even it's on headline due to ransomware virus well it goes viral and also the price was hitting the highest point in it's history. Talking about scaling issue i might agree with you that bitcoin transaction is very slow seems like annoying but i don't see people will leave it and move their assets to altcoins i don't know why maybe they trust it or something.

Bitcoin is and remains the standard. Other coins will find niches - unless another coin manages to achieve popular support by ease of availability and transactions.

The only danger I see comes from Ripple, but that's still far off with their top-down approach.

Interesting times!
