CommunityCoin would probably be your best bet. The distribution phase is pretty much complete. Now would be the best time to put money in as the exchange prices are still pretty low.

Bitcoin was a great idea and has far more momentum.  After it came, many additional copy cat coins came out trying to address small flaws in the bitcoin code.  The first of these was Litecoin but thousands followed.  None was marketed well until Doge.  Technologically, the problems the alt coins addressed were not huge problems.  The smaller problems were encryption code and speed of blocks and so on.  The only real problem the alt coins kind of addressed was the miner problem.  Basically, the miner system just didn't make sense as it played out.  Uses too much energy and is becoming extremely centralized.

Many 2.0 platforms were created to handle this and much more.  They are Ethereum, NXT, Ripple, Counterparty, Bitshares, Mastercoin and so on.  Some of these are better, some worse, none is perfect.  Now bitcoin is supposedly going to introduce "side chains" which means that anything a 2.0 platform could do, theoretically now bitcoin will also be able to do.  These side chains might also justify the miner problem and legitimize the arms race that has been bitcoin mining.

To answer your question.  If bitcoin does get side chains, there will be reason at all for any altcoin to exist, maybe even no reason for the other 2.0 platforms too.  Bitcoin has a huge first mover advantage and this technology would make it very adaptable for the next generation.  The 2.0s were already going to make alt coins irrelevant, but now the big guy, bitcoin will do it itself.

A few and very limited alt coins might just have enough momentum to keep on going and become competing platforms.  Doge and Litecoin being the only two really worth considering.  They will need lots of development though.  They will always be 2 steps behind bitcoin, but that might be enough to live.  Litecoin is by far the biggest, probably worth more than all the rest combined, buuuuuut I have looked and like 95% of its volume is out of China.  If China bans cryptocurrencies, it will have a very difficult time.  If China bans bitcoin and lets Litecoin live, it will be solidified as THE alt cryptocurrency.  If litecoin does fail, Doge will be the next best altcoin by far to invest in.  That is once it stops being so crazily inflationary.

There is no way to know obviously.  As the mother of all the cypto coins anything that is bad for bitcoin is usually bad for the others.  Litecoin does not seem to have much community or infrastructure for it given how long it's been around.  Doge has an active community, but just too many coins, despite their stunts to get attention.

Good luck!

These three has good support and many people are following. You can spread your investment on three. Some thing like 50% on btc, 30% in litecoin and 20% in dogecoin.
mostly the is a best idea/ but i us 25-25-25-25 ($ the last one)

Interesting.... But still I think as each coin has its own risk, the percentages should not be the same.

Dont matter if you split, if you split you put faith in either one and if you dont have enough faith to boost any of them, they sit ilde.  To many people wanna make money off these instead of joining for a revoulution cause.

All these altcoins, including the LTC have value only if the BTC itself is having exchange value. All of them depends on the BTC, leaching off like a parasite. When the host dies, the parasite also perishes.

Good point.

True-ish, I don't know why their market cap is given in USD, because mostly it's BTC... though some can be bought direct.
