The usability of the coin is the important thing, it sustains it in time and gives it the value. And in that already it takes a great advantage Bitcoin on the rest of the currencies.

Don't think it matters if bitcoin doesn't stay number one forever. Why actually cares what is number one. Bitcoin is only used because it was the first one it is like the usd to the fiat world in which everything else gets it's value. I don't really think we should wrry about what vskue we choose to compare with but rsther that the value is there to begin with. Everything else is just minor details and mud in the water.

I thought for sure it would take until the end of 2018 but it looks like this summer ethereum might pass it up. With the turmoil around BTC potential splitting, it might be very soon. IMO this is healthy, we will always value bitcoin for being the one that started it all, but it's time for a more dynamic and adaptable currency to take the lead.
Yes becuase all things have end so we need to prefer to tge next future of coin that is etherium , i can say if the supply of bitcoin is exhaustes i think the value of bitcoin become high but bitcoin will die maybe 20 years.

yes everything will ended so bitcoin and the other coins too. i don't think about how long bitcoin will stay but as long as i can use bitcoin, i think it will not be a problem for me about how long bitcoin will exist. but personally, i think bitcoin will be more than 5 years from now and the value of bitcoin will increase especially if the supply is slowly goes decrease while demand is increase.
Thanks for the specific prediction.

I am basically looking for an analysis that is similar to a stock fundamentals analysis. Are we buying bitcoin over altcoins because of momentum solely? Or is there fundamental value of bitcoin over the altcoins?

In the future, btc can be surpassed by other currencies or even by a currency that has already been created. Many projects are created daily and posted here in the forum. And one of these projects can rather overcome btc.

until now bitcoin is still the first and most popular, so in my opinion, what you predicted will not be true. because now bitcoin prove its existence for all its users.

Think of it this way, people that are not in the crypto world, don't know anything else BUT BTC, most of them have to clue what a cryptocurrency is, but they heard of bitcoin from TV, from someone talking... when more people will come to use cryptocurrency, people that are not developers nor fanatics about IT, they will turn to BTC, they will want to use it like they use there VISA cards , paypal...
So YES, I think bitcoin will still be the king of the hill for at least going into the 2020s

I really think that someday, bitcoin will not be the leading cryptocurrency, however, this really depends on the people using it. If more and more people would trust and use bitcoin in the future, I think it's possible it would still be number one in the future. Bitcoin already established it's name and nothing ever surpassed the things that bitcoin had gone through in past until now.

Bitcoin will always be number one. While it is possible to lose the number one spot, it is very unlikely.

Bitcoin is BTC

Like everything else outside if it was the first, it is the one.
The major.
Probably not the best ma surely the most known.
Because it was the first assosiated with that category.

Try to think a fast food company: what do you imagine at time 0?
Mc's of course

Ok you get it, I won't make more example.

Even if every related thing collapsed, it will be remembered as the first and everyone associated it.
So its value.

It will be forever, bitcoin has been the first cryptocurrency, and it would not be replaced, maybe there are better altcoins with more advanced technologies, but it doesnt make them better, because those people who have never invested in bitcoin, will invest in btc at first, not in other currencies, so it is more famous.
But no, it would never be replaced..
Some altcoin may be better but that doesn't make it better. See a problem with that statement? I guess you're saying bitcoin is a better investment despite the altcoin being better, technically.

But won't the better coins eventually win?

Hi,

The world of cryptocurrency is moving really fast.
There are the most promising cryptocurrencies right now but to me, Bitcoin is best and for always.
The Current Market Cap: $6,275,855,363
So I believe Bitcoin will go for a long.

Thanks Smiley

I do not believe bitcoin will be shifted from its current position as number one in the virtual currency. Bitcoin already has everything to not to get shifted from its position, the popularity, trust, and legality of some countries that are not easy to obtain by other coins

Nothing is going to last forever

Ans still more so in the world of crypto. More specifically, Bitcoin without doubt has the first mover advantage, but its real advantage and edge over other coins is that it is capable of bringing in more profits over longer terms than the rest of the pack. This is the thing that keeps it at the top. If it loses this capability due to some "natural causes" (like those Hue Hefner died of yesterday) or because of some external influence or impact (say, China explicit ban), it will lose its top place since people will instantly switch to something more profitable

But is there any value in Bitcoin over the other coins, besides first mover advantage?

If first mover is the only advantage, then can't another coin come along and topple Bitcoin?

Bitcoin, as of now, is 14x the value of ethereum.

This is a great indicator that one should buy Ethereum.  When people who are this bad at math do an analysis, you must take the opposite conclusion.
