Are you an addict in playing arcade machines? The previous system in playing arcade machines was to place a coin or token to get credits to play the game on the arcade machine. But guess what, there are new arcade machines that accepts bitcoin that will serve as your token to get credits to play your favorite arcade games. Im not really into playing but I think its a good topic especially to arcade fanatics.

Not a bad idea. But if we accept the fact that bitcoin is money, then anything that can be done with money can be done with bitcoin. So basically this is only a news because bitcoin is still not a "currency".

Are you based in the UK?

My eventual plan is to have a site of a few of the most popular arcade machines along with some other Bitcoin focused stuff.

there are quite a few places out there that house loads of arcade machines that you can play for a flat entry fee. that makes more sense with bitcoin.

I think something like this might be interesting for some people, but I don't have all that much time to go to arcades anymore so I don't think I would be a good candidate for looking at something like this.

I don't know if it's exactly a game changer like Cnet wants to call it, but it definitely takes a new spin on the concept of a traditional arcade that we have. However, I don't know if arcades are really all that popular anymore now that PCs and consoles have mostly taken over the gaming market.
Well we are and new generation we have now PC's and Advanced console but there still other people are collecting unique machines like this.
People might be interested if the game have a prize if they finish the game .

They implemented bitcoin to arcade machine, that's maybe the future usage of bitcoin. But if you want to play it fast you need to pay higher fees, which will allow you to pay additional cents to play it with no big delays
I think they should remove the delay when sending bitcoin into the arcade they should change it into 0 confirmation so that people who want to play they don't need to wait for a long time before they can play.

I really enjoy playing some arcade game when I was a kid,
If you could really create some arcade machines that could let us play and earn some bitcoin it would be really awesome.

A nice idea but could really be worse considering the fact that it would take a good 10 or so minutes just for confirmation times and by then, I think the user would be frustrated before he/she can play a single game. Also if the arcade would consider 0 conf that would be an easy target for those who want to have the lulz without spending anything.
Yes,  I agree in that is a good idea and the fans of arcade machines will like it, but slow confirmations are a big issue and maybe nobody will want to use those machines. Perhaps they should evaluate the possibility of accepting other criptocurrencys.

The question still remains: why are they hoarding if they can buy more anytime they want.

because most of the time it costs extra. i'm not registered with an exchange. if i want to replenish what i've spent in bitcoin then i've got to go to localbitcoins, or somewhere like coinbase. that carries a premium.

for my theoretical arcade game i'm paying a minimum 50c in bitcoin fees plus 3-10% premium to buy that bitcoin back. why the hell would i bother if i've got a quarter in my pocket?
I understand your situation, but a typical Bitcoin user is registered on an exchange, so this argument would not fit the majority.
The fee is certainly a problem, but it hasn't been like that a couple years ago. Hopefully it will get resolved in the near future, because if not, there won't be any adoption and no reason to hold. As people have said, accepting a 0 confirmation could help.

Why should we spend? Because it will show the business owners the system works and it's worth to add an option to pay in crypto to their machines. If you go to Japan you'll see how many vending machines they have. You rarely even interact with waiters in restaurants, just enter, press a button, and get the meal delivered to you via conveyor belt. Bitcoin was made for this.

I don't get it. Why wouldn't you want to spend your coins if the price was right? What does it matter if you pay for an arcade game with fiat, Bitcoin or any altcoin? They are all interchangeable, right?
This means that at the moment of spending the ticket or token or whatever it is you're buying, have the same price in all currencies.

you can spend bitcoin in thousands of places right now on way more useful items.

hardly anyone's doing it because they're hoarding it with the expectation of higher values in the future.

when include bitcoin fees that cost more than the average arcade game then there's even less point.
The question still remains: why are they hoarding if they can buy more anytime they want. The only thing that comes to mind is that there are no decent services available worldwide. I know there are many stores around the world, but most of them are in the US or Asia and you have to pay for shipping. Also, the range of products you can buy is still limited and the prices aren't competitive with fiat, especially for a EU citizen.

I agree that the fees are a problem now. 2 Years ago, when I first heard of Bitcoin it wasn't the case.

Indeed. The issue I think I have a way around for the machine but still in development. At CoinFest we had 0 confirms but only because the machine was in a selected area where when people wanted to play I could see them near the machine and I could discuss the project with them.

cool gimmick. nothing else. if people don't wanna buy actual useful goods with bitcoin then they certainly won't waste any bitcoin on a game that lasts a few minutes. make a doge arcade machine.

No one wants to spend their Bitcoin on these machines. It would have been better if they start accepting low value altcoins, it will be a promotion of that coin as well as good for users too.

I think that, although arcade games are not as popular as they used to, this is a step in the right direction.

Actually quite a lot of Bitcoin enthusiasts you came to coinfest spent their money on this machine (and won!)
