Gold and Bitcoin are in the same boat, if world financial system collapses they both will survive. All "paper" currency will be gone.

this is from another forum

BULLION (gold)
BEANS
BULLETS
BLONDS
BIBLE
and now I will add
BITCOINS

the advantage of gold is that its 2500 years old versus the BTC
that needs electricity and computers

I would also add babies, maybe, boys from blonds (but not necessarily). This should be given the top priority and come first on the emergency list, I think...

The Ferengi use gold simply as a casing to make latinum transportable, but they don't value gold. They do acknowledge, however, that there are still civilizations who value gold due to their lack of replication technology.

If you had to convert all your wealth to either Bitcoin or gold and keep it there for 10 years, which would you choose? Keep in mind the fact that Bitcoin has only been around for 5 years, and could be fundamentally different in any number of ways in 10 years.

Bitcoin. Here is why

Let us go back 110 years to say 1904 and ask the following question: If you had to convert all your wealth to either horseless carriages (otherwise known as automobiles) or horses and keep it there for 10 years, which would you choose? Keep in mind the fact that horseless carriages have only been around for 5 years, and could be fundamentally different in any number of ways in 10 years.

By the way humans had been using horses as a primary form of transportation for millennia, yet in a period of 50 years between 1900 and 1950 they virtually vanished form the transportation scene. Will Bitcoin do the same to gold?

I don't know. Automobiles would have lost 90% of their value over 10 years; horses, on the other hand, tend to keep their value and they "reproduce." I would have taken horses over automobiles as a storage of value.

I would rather invest in gold, because i believe gold is more safer solution, and it's price does not change so quickly as bitcoin value does.

So, if you ask me I would say, invest in gold.

10 years is quite a long period of time if you are talking about commitment in asset investment. I would say I'll divide it between 50-50 portions holding onto both. There's no such thing as putting all your eggs into one basket so diversification is the key. If I have the option to select, I would like to make stock and property investment as additional options.

10 years... I'd say bitcoin.
It's much riskier than gold in that time frame, because gold will hold its value while bitcoin might have gone to zero.
But if it hasn't...the gains will be immense!
