How many ram memory do I need to run this properly on linux? In case I don't have enough ram, is swap sufficient? Possibly how much ram combined with swap do I need at least?

Could you guys please stop releasing a new version every 3 days?
Soon there will be a new version before one had the chance to sync the old one.

yes its creating confusions many just trying to fix old one and as its set there is news that new version is ready its not a fair policy you must think about this  Smiley

The Concierge of Crypto
If your CMOS battery, (usually CR2032) is not branded, I don't expect it to live more than 2 years. It's cheap enough to replace it and note the date somewhere (like a piece of paper taped to the side of the motherboard.)

Take note also, because sometimes instead of CR2032, you will find CR2016 which is thinner and has a shorter lifespan.

I advocate the Zeitgeist Movement & Venus Project.
I have also had a weird thing where my clock was ~30 mins off. I don't know if it is related to bitcoin though. Bitcoin doesn't have access to set the system time I'm assuming.

I was having a strange problem with a brand new PC box where the bios battery would go dead in days.  I would try putting in a new battery and see if that helps.  Good luck.

Ever since I upgraded to 0.8.5 it periodically gives me an error complaining about the computer's time being off. In Windows 7 x64.

I keep the time sync'd through the internet, & even went to task manager & increased the sync interval from 1 week to daily & it still happens every 2 weeks or so.

I disabled the clock sync with my Blackberry too so there wouldn't be 2 time sources.

The BIOS battery is only 2 years old & shouldn't be dead yet.

And it didn't happen until I upgraded to this version.

All I have to do is shut it down & restart the client, but it's a problem nevertheless.

I hope it's fixed in 0.9.0.

So I upgraded both my main OS (OSX 10.9) and Ubuntu running on a virtual machine to 0.8.5 and downloaded bootstrap.dat torrent to import into the programs.

I went to do this on OSX first, the process took approx 3 days, which I thought nothing of, as my download for the same blockchain through the client will probably take longer than this. However, I just started importing bootstrap.dat into Bitcoin-Qt 0.8.5 in my Ubuntu VM, and it has done over 50% in less than 20 minutes!?

Anybody else experience anything like this? Anyone have any ideas about how/why this might happen?

I have a late 2012 iMac with 16GB ram and an i7 3770k (21.5"), if that will make any difference to anything... Also, if you didn't catch my OS is Mavericks (developer preview 8 I think), but sure I did the bootstrapping procedure with the previous torrent (~7GB, the one now is ~9.3GB) and it took just as long, but might be mistaken about that...

I download this but crushing again and again every time when I want to login its need to redwonload what is wrong with this

Well reindex doesn't solve anything, start the client with bitcoin-qt --args -checklevel=2

That will let you use it, or add the checklevel=2 in the .conf

Bitcoin-Qt version 0.8.5 is now available from:
  http://sourceforge.net/projects/bitcoin/files/Bitcoin/bitcoin-0.8.5/

This is a maintenance release to fix a critical bug;
we urge all users to upgrade.

Please report bugs using the issue tracker at github:
  https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues

How to Upgrade
--------------

If you are running an older version, shut it down. Wait
until it has completely shut down (which might take a few minutes for older
versions), then run the installer (on Windows) or just copy over
/Applications/Bitcoin-Qt (on Mac) or bitcoind/bitcoin-qt (on Linux).

If you are upgrading from version 0.7.2 or earlier, the first time you
run 0.8.5 your blockchain files will be re-indexed, which will take
anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the speed of
your machine.

0.8.5 Release notes
===================

Bugs fixed
----------

Transactions with version numbers larger than 0x7fffffff were
incorrectly being relayed and included in blocks.

Blocks containing transactions with version numbers larger
than 0x7fffffff caused the code that checks for LevelDB database
inconsistencies at startup to erroneously report database
corruption and suggest that you reindex your database.

This release also contains a non-critical fix to the code that
enforces BIP 34 (block height in the coinbase transaction).

--

Thanks to Gregory Maxwell and Pieter Wuille for quickly
identifying and fixing the transaction version number bug.
good work

i don't know how to check what's the version of my Bitcoin-Qt (it's used for mac)

When you first start it up you should see a box which says  "v0.8.5-beta"

When it is open (like in your screenshot above) you can check by clicking  "Help > About Bitcoin" and again it should say "v0.8.5-beta"
