Would be much better without them, they are dragging us down by taking away some users, especially litecoin and monero

Bitcoin is unique and is valuable and will not only survive but also succeed with or without altcoins. These are alt coins which are dependent on Bitcioin so far and their value is set up on the base of Bitcoin.Bitcoin without Altcoin will be same I dont see any effect.

Bitcoin is the big brother, everything else exist of the succes of bitcoin. But in some way they complement bitcon which make the crypto scene so appealing to new people every day.

Bitcoin won't get affected at all. Try to recapitulate those days when there was only one cryptocurrency ~ "Bitcoin" Wink It seems that altcoins are exploding. Almost every other day you hear about a new coin that just came out which is “the best coin ever!!!“. Even altcoin forums don't care if 5 to 10% of all currently traded altcoins are de-listed in one day.  Therefore, this whole "altcoin" thing you're supposed to be talking about is evaporating as we speak and you can't be bothered to take notice.

Altcoins are a byproduct of Bitcoin so its not
that meaningful to ask what influence they have.

It's like asking if the sun is affected by its own solar flares.

A lot of bitcoins find their way into Alt coins, because people use BTC to buy Alt coins.. but I think the most important influence they might have, is generating innovation. Bitcoin

developers do not need to test some features on the test net, if it has been tested on one of these Alt coins.. So Bitcoin can include any good feature being tested on the Alt's.

Alternative coins have a huge impact in the role they play as being the crash test dummy for Bitcoin. Core developers cannot test some new features on a live network, because a

failure could sink the technology... so it's helpful to have Alt coins as the punch bag for these tests.  Roll Eyes

Many people trade bitcoin with altcoin. Without those altcoins, the need for bitcoin will be reduced. The bitcoin price will drop.

The unavoidable failure of altcoin (include banks' altcoin) will prove that only bitcoin works as a decentralized world wide cryptocurrency

1. Inflation
Every altcoin is inflation in cryptocurrency world, thus against the fundamental spirit of bitcoin: Limited total supply

2. Community
Altcoin is too late in the scene and have almost no community from every part of the ecosystem, world wide

3. Hashpower
Altcoin has none or very little hash power in the network, usually quite centralized, means the security and investment is far below bitcoin's level

I have long believed that some alts can even take over Bitcoin, but now I see I was wrong all the way. The world ain't ready even for Bitcoin and not some other more complicated and probably less secure alts.

What we need to do is keep an eye on these alts and try to incorporate technology that they introduce into Bitcoin if it suits us. This is all that alts are good for in my opinion!

what if...

starbucks, walmart, 7eleven created a loyalty card system.
1% of all purchased gets converted to an altcoin chain,
EG
for every $1 spent puts 0.01 loyalty coins into an altcoin address linked to the customer.

with 1 coin valued at $1.
people can buy loyalty points(coins) like saving up for christmas, but the coins can only be spent instore.

instantly a coin like this will get recognition, without customers having to know about the techy stuff in the background. and making this coin more popular then bitcoin.

retailers would love it. because they wont need auditors or security teams, or having to claim it on their IRS reports, as its not fiat

Anyone who's talking shit about altcoins is

  • Bagholder
  • Missed mad profits in 2014

There's A LOT of people who heard of bitcoin, because of altcoins which had good technology.

I'm all about alts, and I think they contribute a lot to BTC's ecosystem.

i can see them proposing good solutions to some problem that may be related to bitcoin, and did take a big profit from them, but i still find that the majority where there only for stealing bitcoin quickly

they were , after all the most prominent way of stealing bitcoin, in a "manner way" we can see

for example i'm not sure if without doge, the overflow of newbies would have happened anyway...

I think altcoins do provide a benefit, bitcoin is not going to be altered that much but with altcoins there is the room to use the blockchain in ways that bitcoin does not, for example proof of stake is one feature which a lot of the altcoins have been using over the past year or so.

Up to now though we haven't seen many altcoins really breaking out on their own, litecoin is the little brother of bitcoin just hanging about and then doge went mental for a while but has settled back down, don't get me wrong there are some altcoins out there that might break on through to the other side but for now they seem to be a way for people to quickly make a profit off of bitcoin.

agree bitcoin also get benefits in altcoin to buy altcoin you will use bitcoin
if there will be no altcoin i dont think bitcoin volume will become like this
someone buy bitcoin just to buy some altcoin and also while other altcoin advertising their coin
bitcoin also get benefits because its only way to buy altcoin
trading flat to bitcoin and vice versa only without altcoin will not make bitcoin price go higher
price of it go lower due to no alternative option to use it

again correcting peoples terminology, as it will help explain it to common folk in the future

I think bitcoin still need altcoin. We don't know in the future, what blockchain currencycryptocurrency will be used by people.

For now is still bitcoin, but in the future? No one knows.

Also without altcoin, progress of bitcoin is not like nowadays.

Yes the altcoins supports bitcoin and vice versa. Even better it makes the market cap bigger of all blockchaincrypto coins, since more big companies joins the blockchaincrypto scene.

This makes that altcoins compete with each other which gives us faster and more innovation.

sorry i have to correct peoples terminology, because if bitcoin (the currency) is to go mainstream, then the community needs to start understanding the terminology better, by avoiding words like crypto, virtual, digital.. as they are vague and wacky words common people wont distinguish between fiat and blockchain based currency. and also separating bitcoin the currency vs what some people have in the past called bitcoin the protocol.

Doge may have promoted bitcoin a bit as a meme(being a blockchain currencycrypto-currency), other than that I don't think LTC or any other shitcoins actually influence bitcoin in any(positive) way.

Doge may have promoted bitcoin a bit as a meme(being a ), other than that I don't think LTC or any other shitcoins actually influence bitcoin in any(positive) way.
That's only because most of these coins are in direct competition with bitcoin and what it stands for. However it's a free market and you can do whatever you want but my guess would be that the introduction to blockchain coinscrypto coins will come from bitcoin. Just because bitcoin has the biggest name currently.

In my opinion, only few alts have purpose in blockchainBitcoin ecosystem. I dont want to mention any specific coin, just blockchain ecosystemBitcoin need some anon alternative to bitcoin when you dont want to anyone track your transactions. Other than that, maybe some faster coin, but all others are just shitcoins if you ask me.

Altcoins are dependend on bitcoin, but not the other way. So altcoins dont influence bitcoin in any way(unless some altcoin is worth more than bitcoin). But altcoin trading is a big business and it shouldnt actually used as a replica of bitcoin - it should be a way of experimenting with blockchain currenciescryptocurrencies.

Well alt coins are an essential part of the blockchainCrypto-Currency ecosystem. BTC is not mature enough to be used for a true investment vehicle unless you like having to hold for years. It doesn't serve well as a currency either given its volatile price movements. In terms of speculation, alts are great.

BTC will still survive without other blockchain currenciescryptocurrency, but it'll grow really slow.. and since growing it via alt-coin trading became impossible, there will be so many people left it behind because of the slow growing progress. Finally, there will only serious btc-lover who still uses it.
