After I read the history of the post he came from the same country as me. I doubt the percentage he gave, because I think bitcoin users in Indonesia was quite a lot. As I read the article, the only legal currency in Indonesia is RUPIAH. So I do not expect the government will legalize bitcoin. But on the other hand the government also does not prohibit bitcoin, because there are no regulations that explain it. And here using bitcoin is the responsibility of each. Because I think as long as we use bitcoin for things that are not prohibited by the country's legitimate. thank you

Indonesia is one of the most widely using bitcoin (according to my research). Indonesia is also one of the countries which did not prohibit the bitcoin and everyone using bitcoin must bear all that will occur (loss, theft, etc) and the Government will not be responsible for it all. This is a good thing but also not profitable if negative things entered into our lives

That's really unfortunate. What countries are you guys in? I'm most definite that it's a third world country since I'm confident that bitcoin is very well known in first world countries by this time.

But I would like to suggest you people not to wait anymore for somebody brings bitcoin business in your region.
Instead of waiting for other people to bring, why not you start your own bitcoin start ups. Most probably you can gain more profits if you are first for any kind of business which involves bitcoin.
One simple example : mobile recharge for bitcoins.

I don't think that any government anywhere would legalize and/or legitimize an online currency especially a large currency such as bitcoin. It would put too great a power into people that own bitcoin. This would also put great power into the maker of bitcoin who gave himself 1million bitcoin.

I remember that Thailand banned Bitcoin during Bitcoin's early days. The removed the ban and add in a few restrictions sometime later.

I remember that Russia completely banned Bitcoin. I heard a news recently that they are lifting the ban - but still add some restrictions.

In five years time, I see a world with a lot of countries acknowledging Bitcoin but with a few restrictions here and there. Just that. Simply because Bitcoin can become the next world-first currency.

I think there are three options for Bitcoin in any country:

1. The use of it might be called illegal by the government.

2. The government might just ignore its use.

3. The government might encourage its use.

I think all the countries of the world are going from #1 to #3, slowly but steadily.

Or it can co-exist with fiat, altcoins and all the other digital currencies that might be developed in the future. It is good to have choices, good choices that is. Bitcoin becoming a currency that's used by most everyone is still a long way to go. Even the most tech advanced countries are not that big supporters of bitcoin. How much more the less privileged and third world countries where technology isn't the priority of ordinary people.

Actually, that's not true. Here where I live we must pay tax over our Bitcoin holdings and profits. Holding Bitcoin is seen as being part of our wealth, just like you hold stocks for example. So yes, Bitcoin does get taxed.

Really? You are being taxed for holding bitcoin and aside from that, it is also counted as part of your wealth? May I know from what country you are from brother and how will your government will know if you are holding bitcoin or not? I'm just curious. TIA Wink

Governament can't fully control to it's peoples. this is the world of Digital, world of world wide web. and the world of Global Village.. laws are laws but they can't snatch someone's freedom.
there are some countries where bitcoin is illegal. like Bangladesh, Vietname, bolivia ETC, but you can see a lot of peoples from these countries are member of this forum and using bitcoin anyway.

Sure, hope for the best. who knows what will happen in future. and if bitcoin don't get accepted as legally then it wont be a big problem. bitcoin is a tradable currency. you can anytime exchange it to Local fiat.

Well, in my country i never heard even a thing about bitcoin on a news channel or in any newspaper or anywhere in real world, i think there arent a lot of people aware of bitcoin in my country and if there are some then they are very rare, so simply there is not restriction on it as it is not well-known yet.

Bitcoin is not yet that popular and its something that people will not think of that exist especially those that are not that techie yet. When someone introduce it to them especially a person that is famous like a celebrity, a business owner or a high rank official then maybe they will be aware of it because that is the trend of the people,when someone credible they know is using something and they know that they can earn from it then they will try to copy him/her which in effect a higher demand and a higher price.

Well I don't know for any country that accept bitcoin as currency. I think bitcoin is still just for network, and there isn't government that accepted or make some regulations about bitcoins. Just a lot of talking about it, and moving that topic for some future times.
If bitcoin continue to be accepted by the people around the world in next five years, like it was case in last five years, everyone who didn't pay attention on bitcoin will regret. In next five years maybe price will grow also, and with that bitcoin will be more stabile probably. I think many companies will start to work with bitcoins also, and shops/stores.

At least it would be desirable to cryptocurrency of no criminal prosecution in some countries, as well as that for bitcoin could buy goods on the internet without any obstacles.
