15.8 Million UK Residents Own or Are Considering Bitcoin
A recent survey by Bitcoin wallet Luno has shown the desire by UK residents for the launching of a “Bitcoin Barometer” which monitors the numbers of those currently involved in crypto.
The barometer, which was launched today, shows that an estimated 15.8 million UK residents either currently own or would consider owning cryptocurrencies in the future.

I like such insane extreme scenarios, it doesn't matter how unlikely they are. Of course one should carefully avoid to confuse them with reality.

Officials in the southern Chinese city of Zhongshan have instituted a blockchain system to track the movements of those on parole in the district.
The new blockchain network is said to improve the quality of community correction that the justice department can serve, upgrading its ability to track parolees activities around the clock. Monitoring the community prisoners previously had restrictions imposed, including regional and time constraints. The blockchain system, however, lets officials view data at any time from any location.

Popular marijuana-themed publication High Times is accepting Bitcoin and Ethereum for shares of its stock, which are now being offered in an initial public offering (IPO) at USD 11 per share. In August 2018, it initially announced that it would be accepting crypto during the IPO. But on 13 August, it sent a statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of the United States clarifying that it would not actually be accepting Bitcoin.

Lightning Network Capacity Exceeds 100 Bitcoins
The capacity of the Bitcoin Lightning Network has grown to more than BTC 100 for the first time, with more than 12,000 active channels and 3,300 nodes.
To put this in perspective, in January 2018, there were fewer than 100 Lightning Network channels, and in May there were over 6,600. Clearly, the network is rapidly growing, a positive sign that it will eventually fulfill its goal of being a scalability solution for Bitcoin.

Alibaba Responsible for 10% of World’s Blockchain Patent Applications
Research published by Thomas Reuters shows that Chinese multinational holding conglomerate Alibaba has filed over 10% of the total number of blockchain patent applications last year.
Of the 406 total applications in 2017, Alibaba claims 43 of them, leading China’s growing blockchain intellectual property claims. The data collected also indicates that China is responsible for 56% of applications in 2017, followed by the US with 22%, and shows that the number of blockchain patent filings has increased from just 134 in 2016, to 406 in 2017.

The project cites its purpose as bringing a quality assets exchange to the Islamic community for the first time.

The all-party group met yesterday to examine proposals for the launching of ICOs although as yet no formal statements of intent have been made regarding the outcome of the meeting. Nicolas Brien of France Digitale did urge for haste, however, arguing that “the market wants legitimization… from every jurisdiction. In the UK it’s particularly bad, none of the banks will bank you if you have crypto”.
