Yahoo used to be one of the biggest search engines in the world but started to decline from the top ranks in the late 2000s. It is still a major platform used internationally though and pulls in billions of dollars of revenue per year. A senior Russian lawmaker has said he believes a cryptocurrency backed by gold may be the right course of action to avoid Western-imposed sanctions on arms exports.
Vladimir Gutenev, first deputy head of the economic policy Committee at the State Duma, has called on Moscow to suspend all shared treaties with the US including the non-proliferation of missile technologies and to adopt cryptocurrency in order to avoid USD-based commerce. He called this an ”asymmetric response to the US”

A bill has passed both houses of the Californian state legislature which, if brought into law, will define blockchain and require the forming of a government blockchain group within a year.
The bill AB 2658 is now awaiting Californian governor Jerry Brown’s approval. If implemented, it would define blockchain as “a mathematically secured, chronological, and decentralized ledger or database“, representing a huge step in accepting blockchain in the state and elsewhere in the US

AP Collaborates with Blockchain Journalist Firm for Improved Ethics
The US-based not-for-profit news agency the Associated Press (AP) announced on Tuesday that it would join blockchain-based journalism startup Civil in a content licensing partnership.
The collaboration will allow Civil to access all of AP’s national and international content for use in Civil’s related newsrooms, receiving a direct license for use by AP. In exchange, AP will receive CVL tokens which will be reportedly be used to promote objectivity and accuracy in its work through supporting Civil’s internal economy.

India Considers Rupee-Backed Digital Currency to Combat Rising Fiat Cost
The Reserve Bank of India’s study to look at the feasibility of introducing a rupee-backed central bank digital currency was driven by the burden of current rising costs in printing paper fiat money.
The RBI suggests that there may be pressure put on other banks globally, particularly with the rise in interest in digital currencies for banking purposes. However, electronic fraud remains a concern, according to Financial Services company EY India. Company representative Manesh Makhia suggested, “The idea of a central bank-issued digital currency is very promising though issues around digital counterfeiting will need to be addressed."
