I need to find a way for users to humbly select their own posts. It'll speed up the process.

All a matter of incentives.  Tongue

Hmm.  I'm not sure every member would suggest their own posts humbly at all.  In fact, it could quickly turn into a spam fest on your end if you've got to approve them all--and if you aren't approving them, we'll probably end up seeing a bunch of meaningless, low-value quotes by members with egos far bigger than their forum contributions.

Know what I mean?  Aside from that I still like the site very much!

I generated 5 blocks today on my Pentium processor.

Oh man, to have been aware of, and involved in, bitcoin way back then.  If only I had a private time machine...

I think you got it wrong, 50 BTC could make someone VIP not 50 tBTC as tBTC have no value at all. Trust me you won't get VIP status by sending testnet Bitcoin.

We are surrounded by legends on this forum. Phenomenal successes and catastrophic failures. Then there are the scams. This forum is a digital museum.

Now that's a good one, especially the last sentence.  Hopefully most members know that Satoshi used to be active here, and man if you spend an hour or two browsing through ancient threads, e.g., from the 2010 era, you'll see how a lot of things evolved (like signature campaigns).  There's a tremendous archive of great stuff here.

And, if funny quotes are also accepted, I'd make some research inside the foxhole, as there is an incredible material there Smiley

Most of that incredible material was fueled by one foolhardy substance or another, and I probably should participate in that thread more than I do.  Nevertheless, I absolutely agree with you on that recommendation.

Someone said something about turning it into a screen saver that changes ever 10 seconds and I am also a fan of that idea.

Oh, now that's a pretty neat idea!  Except I haven't used screen savers since I was a teenager I think.

Thanks, I just added everything except theymos' post regarding the 1 MB block size limit, as I find it inaccurate and confusing. The block size limit is 4 MB after Segwit.
Thanks for adding those quotes to your site, I'll try to find some good quotes for the site soon.

This reminds me of the discussion about storing bitcointalk data in a decentralized file system. The autorefresh feature a good one which you don't have to refresh to see different quotes but sometimes when it refreshes to display new quotes, it shows the same quote not that it bothers me. I am sure that the famous pizza day and hodl will be added there and many more will be added soon since there are a lot of good post in this forum. It would be great if there's a home button.

The original of that quote is from theymos

Oooops Smiley I did not know that... thank you LV... In any case, I like more how xtraelvs extended those words... his phrasing is more touching for the heart <3

And I come back with one more proposal... Not sure if this can be added, but it is, perhaps, the only funny line I ever saw from theymos... Smiley

Eitherway man the proxy thing is annoying...  Undecided

Note: I edited the image link because in the original post it was broken.

I will only add that you work more to improve it by adding prev, Next, as @odohu suggested and also including a search 🔍 option to locate the particular author of a particular quote.
He published it temporarily to get everyone's opinion. You suggested it would be a lot of work that still needs to be done. When it completes its job, it will see no errors.
BlackHatCoiner, Everyone is looking at what can be done with everyone's advice. Everything will finally be there when you're done fully customizing. Could you wait until it complete. I hope to see something nice.

It's $25 per year (domain name + web hosting), but donations are accepted! I will continue operating it, yes. I think it can become quite a neat project.
If this trend can continue then it will definitely reach a good place. just keep up your work.

Update

- You can find users' statistics at stats.php, in real time.
- Donation page has been added: https://bitcointalk.rocks/donations.php. Donating 50 BTC still makes you a VIP in here!
- Year of the post, next to the person's username is being added automatically.
- New quotes added. Total quotes: 105.

The text displayed at xtraelv's signature: We are surrounded by legends on this forum. Phenomenal successes and catastrophic failures. Then there are the scams. This forum is a digital museum.
This is a good one. Added it!

And, if funny quotes are also accepted, I'd make some research inside the foxhole, as there is an incredible material there
If you find any text in there which is funny without context (i.e., without knowing what's a foxhole), then don't hesitate to post it.  Wink

Although I understand that it has been very difficult to do this, but you will have one more request to customize the site and publish it more beautifully.
This minimalist style, or lack thereof, is a deliberate choice. Nowadays, every webpage on the Internet is filled with JavaScript and CSS. I don't think this modernity reflects the essence of Bitcointalk.

Here's another list of some good quotes for your site.
Thanks, I just added everything except theymos' post regarding the 1 MB block size limit, as I find it inaccurate and confusing. The block size limit is 4 MB after Segwit.

so are you going to maintain this website and pay for the domain name renewals? it seems like it might cost about $15 per year.
It's $25 per year (domain name + web hosting), but donations are accepted! I will continue operating it, yes. I think it can become quite a neat project.

Some old posts from young theymos are nice to put things into perspective, like:
5) Generating is still profitable, even on my ancient computers. Bitcoin uses $0.25 per day in electricity, but I will make on average $0.60 in Bitcoins per day (and I actually value Bitcoins more than the market price). Even if it wasn't profitable, I need a running bitcoind, and I might as well have it helping the network.
Wow. Imagine being able to mine that cheap. Quote added.

Let's say I wanted to see all quotes from your website with a specific keyword or multiple words, would you be able to make that happen? I enter "third party", or "fork", etc., and all quotes that include that/those word(s) would pop up on screen.
Noted. To-do: Make a small search engine.

I must confess I admire and commend your work @BlackHatCoiner for bringing up this great idea or initiative to the BTT forum community, as this  shows that you have good plans for the forum. I believe after much work on this Bitcointalk quote, it will be used as a search engine to discover people's important quotes to use them as a reference to an ongoing discussion instead of searching out of the forum which leads to most plagiarism.
You don't need quotes from the past to participate in a discussion in the present. Very few people communicate that way. But seeing your post made me think of a search feature that BlackHatCoiner could perhaps introduce.

The original of that quote is from theymos:
As a member of the forum, you are surrounded by legends; phenomenal successes and catastrophic failures.
There's a line earlier in theymos' post that credits xtraelv:

Some text in the intro was obviously inspired by xtraelv's signature, which I really like.

Bitcointalk rocks. Therefore, I present...

Funny, educative, historical and poetic quotes from the Bitcointalk family. Currently, I have saved 91 quotes, from 42 users. I'll update it as I find more interesting posts. You can open the link to check if I've selected posts of yours, but you'll have to refresh and read new quotes manually to find them!

If you've found a good post, submit it in here or via PM, and I'll probably add it to my database.

so are you going to maintain this website and pay for the domain name renewals? it seems like it might cost about $15 per year. i just don't see people going to a site like this just so they can see old quotes about bitcoin. not at all... Angry and just one at a time maybe better to just make a thread on this forum with famous bitcoin quotes call it a day.

Here's another list of some good quotes for your site.

Honestly, I can't imagine that someone will remain untagged if he starts a topic in Meta offering crypto for Merits.

Your earned Merit (for you 543 Merit) will never decrease because it isn't affected when you are meriting another user's post. Sending Merit does only mean that you'll need 1 sMerit (sendable Merit) to do so, the amount of your sMerit is displayed directly after you click +Merit for a post you want to give Merit to.

There's a small transaction fee for very large transactions.  The node that generates the block that contains the transaction gets the fee.

I generated 5 blocks today on my Pentium processor.

The number of coins created per block is halved every 4 years, not the number of blocks created. 50 coins are created per block now. When we reach about 200,000 blocks, each block will be worth 25 coins. After another 200,000 blocks (4 years), each block will be worth 12.5 coins.

In the future you could pay an additional voluntary fee for your transactions to get priority, but this isn't implemented now (in either generating or sending, I think).

It isn't necessary to have a "Bitcoin team". People will independently use/promote/protect the currencies that they find the most value in.

Bitcoin won't allow blocks over 1MB, so assuming a (rather small) average transaction size of 216 bytes, Bitcoin can only handle 4,629 transactions per 10 minutes.

I don't like it when people say this. The expected value of 1 Bitcoin in the future (by full adoption) is $10,000/BTC. By this same logic you can say you wish you heard about Bitcoin 3 years ago, 3 years from now.

Thanking you would be too small, so I don't want to be short by thanking you. The work you are coming up with is undoubtedly an admirable one. Thinking like this is also a great brain.

Since you bought the website domain and properly developed it. @BlackHatCoiner, Although I understand that it has been very difficult to do this, but you will have one more request to customize the site and publish it more beautifully.

F**k this site! There isn't a single quote or post from me!  Grin
Really cool idea. The first time I loaded the site, I saw the famous 10,000 BTC for two pizzas quote lol.

Nice job, BlackHatCoiner!  I haven't clicked through all of the quotes, but I absolutely like this.  I don't know how much work you put into this, but it was an imaginative site to put together and I hope you keep it going and add many more quotes.  There have been some really good zingers over the years, though I'd have no idea how to find them again.  There was a member whose name escapes me who was in the Chipmixer campaign, and he was famous for dropping witty and insightful one-liners.  His name is on the tip of my tongue....and I hate that feeling.

Props to you, my man.

Oh yeah I know who you're talking about it was more of a bizarre humor right? I forget the name as well but I think I know who you are talking about m8. I would have to agree with you I think this little site he has built here is pretty nifty! Well done well done, I also hope that this keeps on growing. Someone said something about turning it into a screen saver that changes ever 10 seconds and I am also a fan of that idea.

If I may, I'd come with one proposal:
