"You have received a total of 5311 merit. This is what determines your forum rank. You typically cannot lose this merit. You have [205 for example] sendable merit (sMerit) which you can send to other people. There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future.
You are a merit source. The next [31 for example] merit you spend will come from your source rather than your sMerit balance. Merit spent from your source will come back in 30 days. Unused source merit is wasted. It is not allowed for merit sources to sell their merit."

In the above example, there are a total of 221 spendable smerits (205 + 16) and the 16 source smerits will be spent first, and more source smerits might be earned before all of the 16 source smerits are spent....or once the source smerits go to zero then the merits will be spent from the regular smerit bank.
Thank you very much for the explanation. Well understood. But I am tempted to reconfirm if what I understood is what you actually meant your explanation.
During the example, you used this "The next [31 for example] merit you spend will come from your source rather than your sMerit balance".
Then when calculating, you used this " (205 + 16)". If there is a mixed up between 31 and 16, I clearly understood. But if the 16 emanated from somewhere else, I need more light. Thanks
