Well said.  The only thing I am a bitter about is the significant price difference between the first batch of A3 miners ($2,375) and the recent batch they are trying to unload in mid-March ($980).  Bitmain is clearly the leader in the ASIC mining space, but the combination of their pricing practices, poor customer support, and general tone in their purchasing/return policies paint a nasty picture.

How can a company justify such a massive price decrease with a straight face?  I give them a little credit (very little) for balancing it with the vouchers they are offering to the Obelisk holders, but what about the folks that ordered the first batch and haven't even seen their miner arrive yet?  They essentially have 45 days to make $30 per day ($1,350) followed by months of making $10-15 per day at best.  Bitmain's behaviors can only induce rage.

There are only two winners here:
- those who were lucky to get the Antminer A3 within days of it being released and were able to cover more than half the costs in the first week back when it was earning $100-$500 per day

- Bitmain

You must not pay attention to their pricing.  If can fluctuate dramatically.  In November you could order a S9 for $1200-1400, now they are $2400.  $980 is about right for the A3 in 2 months.  Obelisk will probably have their miners out early and difficulty will skyrocket.  Keep in mind that the Obelisk also uses about half of the electricity.

800$ coupon for a 980$ miner, they pretty much give obelisk's customers a free miner.

980$ for a new product also mean that bitmain expect a profitability close to zero pretty soon.

It is absolutely obvious that Bitmain is trying to force a Fork so that they can commandeer the old coin after the fork. There is NO doubt about it.

Interesting thought. In any case, they are taking over, fork or no fork. Sia lost all credibility with their threat, act or STFU.

The SIA team announced they wanted to move to ASIC's and forked SIA coin to get it ready for ASIC's. In doing this and by not providing any additional requirements of vendors as a condition of the network participation, they announced to the industry "please make an ASIC miner to mine our coin". To everyone's surprises one of the largest producers of miners in the world, produces a miner and starts selling direct to home miners with a one unit limit. The SIA community got exactly what they asked for and now want to go back and change the rules and even exclude this miner producing company's customers from ever participating in the POW network in the future.

Anyone who purchased an obelisk would be stupid to not take a coupon if available. I would go as far as to say obelisk should get some sort of partnership agreement going to establish a long term relationship, as bitmain is moving into the AI and deep learning space which would be very well suited to the SIA project.

The issue of forcing a fork is a none issue for me as the SIA project only has to recognize the SIA coin of their choosing as being usable for the SIA project. They can put any restriction they like on the coin used as part of the project while no impacting the overall focus of the project, which is to provide a distributed cloud storage platform.

Bitmain hasn't done anything wrong or sneaky. They have done what any company would do in any market. They produced the produce they are good at producing and did it in a shorter time frame than anyone else.

When someone buys and receives A3, tell us more about it, so that everyone can understand its real profitability and payback

I received my first A3 last Monday January 22, income was $500+ on that day,  today exactly 7 days later income is about $37/day. I bought 3, later 2 received on Janury 25. 3 A3s combined made enough SC coins to pay off the 1st one.

same here.  on saturday 1/27 it was around $90 and has gone down around $20 every day to about $40 for my last 24hr on siamining.  i switched it to luxor for a little bit yesterday and it seemed to have the same results as on siamining.

he's upset it didn't come with a powercable, so it's not making any money, his wife is pissed @ him because of all of this and now above all . . he's sleeping in his chicken coup (probably due to said mad wife) plotting his revenge lol

Well Vosk, you've really done it now.  Your suggested OC to 800+ made the A3 ignite and burn down the chicken coop.  Now the wife is really mad and Shute doesn't even have a roof over his head.
famous picture guy vosk telling overclocking trick makes more sia. I tries this to make up quiet time and gets bad fire. he has happy face and looks nice guy but he maybe works for devil bitmain

They are obviously trying to piss the SIA team off thats for sure lol

I think the SIA team had the right idea to make the threat ...

actually the best would be if they could somehow invalid only the 2nd+ batch....     Grin Grin Grin Grin   people should know not to buy batch 2. its going to be the D3 very soon if bitmain is pre-mining batch 2 sales until march

Interesting thought.  Possible, but I sort of doubt Bitmain has any interest in developing the project.   SIA only has real value as a cloud storage project.  I doubt that they have capability even,,,, no dev team or interest.

What a fuster cluck.
Remember, Bitmian's current darling project is Sophon. What is Sophon? Sophon is an AI based protocol. What does AI use the most of? Data. Lots of it. What does Sia do? Decentralized data. These coins are like shares in a company. Control the shares and you control the company, Think about it. Maybe not so far fetched.

thats scary to think, if they succeed in forcing out the current dev team with all the $$ they have from selling worthless heaters and mining with the heaters for months before they sell them they could easily fund a new dev team of thier own.  That beings said this sounds somwhat far feteched
