Ooh La La, C'est Zoom!
Looks like they upgraded from PIC12F1572 to PIC16F1704 for the regulator control. Still has about a 3600-opcode program on it, probably pretty similar to the stock code in the S7 but this chip has built-in I2C so that actually makes some things a lot easier.

data sheet for the new PIC:

It's got some pretty decent ADCs on there. They might have it calibrate a dynamic voltage setpoint instead of just pushing a hex value and calling it good. That's what I'd do. With that capability you could have a self-optimizing routine kinda like the Avalon4 had.

Putting in a PIC with H/W I2C makes a lot of sense, also the new chip has a lot more pins. I wonder if it just does the same job or if they have added any functionality like measuring some parameters and dynamic voltage control? Some how I suspect not.

Also note that it has the same # of chips as b1 (189) but runs at a lower clock of 600MHz. Looks like Bitmain decided that the b1's were actually now what they consider as OC'd... Their way of addressing the high chip temps?

Und ja, I ordered 1 of the batch-3's.

Oh, my b1 miner seems to have settled down in it's new home and the overnight avg hash rate as reported by Kano is 13.5THs and checking just now is holding at 13.7 average on the gui. Much better than the barely 13THs it started out at.

I did your fix using vent filters on the intake side.

99% of air gets through .

quite a lot of dust is stopped.

and no train whistle.

under 10 bucks and will do 12 s-9's

625 freq is giving me about  26 to 27 th.

temps are 65-90

earnings are 0.03175 so far.

Hi Philip, can you show the pix for - vent filters on the intake side?
3 of my S7s suffered because of dust problems - hat eto have that on the S9. Thanks

So they made sure to dual-FET both high and low sides of the buck switching, which is good considering the high currents they're seeing. The FET section is also heatsinked, I like to see that. I was a bit worried when taking the clock and core up high on my S7LN for "overclock" efficiency tests because I didn't want the transistors to smoke out.

I also wanna buy S9, B3 but the price went up 100$?? better wait then after halving..

in theory the batch 3 will ship today if you pay today.

while batch 2 ships on the 20th

so for 100 usd  you get it 5 days faster.

it would earn 95 usd in 5 days if you have 10 cent power

it would earn 103 usd in 5 days if you have 5 cent power.

We are pleased to launch the Antminer S9 Limited Edition with a hashrate of 12.93 TH/s. It is ready to ship immediately upon order confirmation. Antminer S9 is the world's first bitcoin miner based on the 16nm process node ASIC chips.

Due to the high demand and limited quantity of this batch, we advise all interested to place their order at /2o0Wuy]https://[Suspicious link removed]/2o0Wuy while stock lasts.

Regards,

the Bitmain team

I'm sorry, does that mean that everyone who bough a S9-B2 will have to wait until 20th June to get their orders shipped, but those who order now from the third batch will get their orders immediately shipped?

If so, this is unfair.

Might be why batch 3 is $100 USD more than batch 2.

Probably that, or core voltage as too low. Might have had some under-spec chips on those boards.

Ooh La La, C'est Zoom!

8.6ish at more like 900w - just take 2/3ds of the TH and watt spec of the S9, then add a few watts 'cause you still have the controller and fans eating the same power.

Anyone remember what process the 4004 used?

If the Wikipedia entry is correct, the 4004 was 10um (micro-meter). That seems consistent with the previous mention regarding the 8080 earlier in the thread (6 micro-meter).

By today's standards one would have used a hammer and chisel to make those.

to keep on topic: I wonder if the hash rate issues jtoomim is experiencing are heat related? It seems possible as the hash rates came up when the clock rate was decreased.

Looks like batch 3 is out now. It's got the same lowered specs as b2, but costs more at $2085.

The price is going in the wrong direction. Looks like it will be a while before I'll be buying.

yeah they jumps price due to coin jump.

looks like batch 2 buyers may have purchased a bargain.

in the meantime  my 2 s-9's  batch ones just got another piece of a block.

today will be really hot in NJ  should be interesting how they fare.

Bitcoin FTW!
How much is the s9
Around 2100USD, the problem is, the first batches are sold out and already shipped. You'll need to wait for the next batch, and by then, you'll only have a few days left until the halving. Price will probably go down and shift around until the price of bitcoin levels out. Still, I don't expect that the next batch will be too expensive, maybe 1900$ but not any higher.
