There's an API to find out the current checkpointed block so at some point I'll change to using that so the number of confirmations varies based on that. 
checkpointing should protect you from reorgs beyond 5, so you should be fine even at six confirms. Without checkpoints, even ten wouldn't help much btw.

No, please don't add a TRC exchange! People will just turn both PPC and TRC into a pump and dump and nothing will ever come out of them.
