See? That's the trouble with you kids. They spotted something with telescopes, and decided they were going to call them black holes. The fact is, they don't really know what they spotted. We all hide some of the things we believe from ourselves. This is so that we can, hopefully, get to the place where we want to go. Hawking doesn't have full and complete knowledge of everything. The best he can do is to hope that his beliefs are correct. If they aren't... well, everyone is facing reality no matter his/her beliefs.

If you try to contact them, you're immediately redirected into a black hole, and you could yell, scream, pinch, punch, get wasted, run around naked and screaming, claim you're suicidal, bang your head in a brick wall, beg like a dying man, roar like a lion, adress them politely like a diplomat, or cry like a heroinist trying to get off drugs, all to no avail.
