This is very unexpected and so very sudden. Im one of the Ethereum skeptics here in this forum, but does the acceptance of ETH in blockchain.info signals that Ethereum really has a future? I very much doubt that and I think that they are making a mistake.

Blockchain is good wallet and most trusted platform in the world. They have good service with bitcoin but I don't think adding up ether blockchain in their wallet is much better thing. There portfolio best fits with bitcoin and not altcoins really. Why would anyone try out ethereum on blockchain if there is specific wallet like MEW to work with ERC20 standards. Plus most of the ICO accept MEW so in any case blockchain will result in poor customer base who use ether.

I also got that new from them and with that I got that now blockchain believe on the success of even either. With that announcement it is sure that after Bitcoin Ether will be the second successful crypto currency of the crypto world. By the way that attempt of blockchain is appreciated as I love that wallet but the problem in that wallet is that when the password and they key words once lost then it is not easy to get back your coins.

Welcome

Today morning i got an email from blockchain anouncing that they are now accepting ethereum.
Blockchain members now have option in their wallet to receive, send, transfer eth. What are your opinions? Have you interacted with newly added currency?
I don't know if that's true since I haven't got a notification yet but what I know is they have added BTC to ETH conversion using  shapeshift API.The idea is however WIP and one shouldn't really trust them for storing ETH at the moment. You can read the blog post here,

OP, please edit thread title, because it makes no sense. It should be Blockchain.info, not just Blockchain, because it's different things.

Well, I thought that Blockchain.info wallet is only for bitcoins and I didn't expected that they can add Ethereum or any other coin. But anyway, it's not bad for people, because there was lack of good online Ethereum wallets.
And now I think we can expect that Blockchain will add more coins eventually, similar like Coinbase.

If you can't export your private key in a click of a button then Its useless I'd say also a lot of people are using the ERC20 tokens and not ethereum itself so again, they will be losing a lot of users If they are not supporting that, I say Myetherwallet is still a better alternative for the moment.

this is the big issue i see. at first, i was excited, since MEW is occasionally unusable/service down.

with the ICO craze still in full swing, and airdrops still flowing left and right, it'd be great to have more options for reliable web wallets with access to ERC tokens. i don't really need another web wallet just to store ETH. i have a desktop client for that. hopefully they will add support for ERC tokens in the next few months. i'm sure there is demand for it from their customers.
Well, MyEtherWallet is just a client so you can see and manage your wallet from your key. Since you have access to your private key, you can access your wallet anywhere, even if the wallet is down. That's why MEW is the best option if you want to create a ETH wallet.

Blockchain is essentially hosting your private keys for you. Not the best option and not offering all the freedom you should have.

I have just tried it but haven't done any transaction with my ether wallet there. We can actually export our private key which is really good and they also have inbuilt exchange feature which can be really useful. I hope they will also add support for ethereum based token in future.

A so called Bitcoin evangelist company is now offering Etherum solution. What a crime. It will end like Coinbase, every 2 years they will add new wallets like litecoin, dogecoin, ethereum classic, etc And I agree with the poster above, most people are interested with ERC20 tokens, so they are putting a limit themselves

it seems a lot better than all the other alternatives for a web ethereum wallet. but I kind of find it weird that they don't even have a block explorer for ethereum but they added its wallet! I hope they add the explorer soon too, it is very useful and necessary to have with this type of web wallet.

the good thing about it is that you will control the private keys and won't be like Coinbase. and also you won't have the headache of dealing with horrible ethereum wallets and their bloated blockchain which is much bigger than bitcoin's.
