Let the bad times roll

Yep. Those bloody ants could turn your whole world upside-down if you kept your laptop on your lap-bottom.

 Grin
Exactly, and that is what makes me call them bloody lol  Grin

I lost a digital camera like this. To me its not a joke, and i can't even imagine why they chose it as a nice place to make a nest... In fact the queen decided to use the flash lamp as the queen chamber, so it was perfectly visible once you took the camera out of its fabric bag where i was left for months unattended.

Ants may be clean, but they are also somewhat conductive. So they start crossing things with different polarities causing little shorts here and there. Often their bodies keep piling until they can make enough current flow the wrong way and damage something.

So no, its not harmless, you should get rid of them.

I never used laptops on the lap, because i find that incredibly uncomfortable (besides fabric is bad for cooling).

I can understand your pain. It actually is irritating seeing these ants on our digital equipments.

And I usually work on laptop on my bed or couch which makes me keep my laptop on my laps always. I can't usually sit infront of my computer table for the whole day as it'll make me physically sick.

.
I've searched a bit on google and I guess the heat isn't the correct word.

It's the warmth that they like.

--> https://pestsamurai.com/are-ants-attracted-to-heat/
Yeah, my bad. I commonly called it heat but heat tends to have different meanings as well. Warmth would be a perfect word and I do believe that ants love warm places. Thanks for the reference mentioned. It gave me some general knowledge about what ants like.

recently i have same problem but it is from my keyboard that ants keep on popping out what i did is sprayed alcohol and let it dry y using blower but of course i unplugged it first and now it seems that they are all gone (hope so)

try to let technician open your lappy there might be more of them inside.

.
No it will not Harm your computer board if you will only use  pure alcohol and actually this advice i also get from a friend in past that has the same problem thats why i can assure you that this is safer than anything .

better do it now or they will multiply inside your Lappy and damage your laptop before you cleaned them up.
There were many people here suggesting about the use of alcohol and I did follow the same and I am amazed by the results. (I'll mention more about it in the end of this reply.)

That's disgusting.
I haven't seen anything similar.
Probably your laptop was so dirty that ants found home in there.
Just throw your laptop in rubbish and buy a new one but try to keep it clean.

Well, at least you know what attracts ants to your laptop. Having cookie and bread crumps inside keyboard is common, but if they also contain sugar then it's even worse.
You shouldn't really get rid of your laptop but you definitely should disassemble it and do some inside cleaning. After that, I recommend some tips like checking rooms because they might have a nest somewhere else.
I really have to consider this orelse it won't take for those ants to create a another nest into my laptop again. As soon as the lockdown ends, I'll take my laptop to a technician to see what can be done to get rid of them permanently.

I think the ants want to search for a new place for them, so they feel that your laptop is the ideal place for them. Maybe you can place your laptop in the shady place with a warm place or a place with radiant sunlight because of the ants are afraid of the sunlight. But it's an interesting problem that you've got, and I never have such experience, and I don't want to get the same thing as you Grin

I hope you can solve the problem.
Ants are actually a most active creature I'll say and they keep on changing their nests. Laptop has a lot of qualities which makes it a best place for the ants to select as their nest which includes the warmth created, etc.
And yeah I've finally solved this issue.

So guys, finally I've get rid of those "bloody" ants. I thank each and every one who helped find me a solution. At last, the alcohol worked. I thoroughly cleaned my laptop with a 70% alcohol based sanitizer and now I can't see a single ant. This is a big relief for me. Atleast now I know I'm safe from these ants. I know this can be a common problem to most and I want to tell that alcohol really works on this issue.

Even my laptop looks a lot cleaner now and I'm sure it is even safe from germs/viruses now.

Here's a image of how my laptop looks now without ants. (For image with ants, consider image on OP)

Well, I don't really think I should throw away my laptop in trash just because it has ants  Huh
I have a bad habit of eating cookies, chocolates while I'm working on my laptop and most of the times, I do not brush my hands before typing onto the laptop. I think that is what made the debris settle into the laptop from the small gaps in between the keyboard and that made ants attack my laptop.

I am probably not going to throw my laptop only because of this issue lol. But yet, thanks for your suggestion.

Even it is from my keyboard. They keep on popping in dozens from my keyboard and than again hop back in before I can blow them. I literally blew away 40-50 ants but what I think is there are hundreds of them inside.

I'm just concerned if any pesticides/alcohol might damage my board.

Yeah, I feel so the ants like heat and my laptop produces a decent amount of heat once plugged for charging.

CLEAN non GPL infringing code made in Rust lang
Realising the truth, ants are most hardworking creature on this planet. They also are hygenic /clean creature which will not destroy my laptop and I know it. Also so far, there is no news or nothing related to ants spreading any kind of disease. Ants are common. You are reacting to ants like those are some huge pandemic spreading illness or any kind of virus.

Speaking truth, I do not care if they are spreading any virus or anything but what I am ONLY concerned is about taking them out from my laptop forever.

Wouldn't be so bad if they weren't bloody.      Grin
Well ofcourse they are bloody.  Tongue
Most of the time, I keep my laptop on my lap and it has turned into my habbit. Can you imagine where where they might be bitting me once I place my laptop on my lap?  Cry
I can call these red mf ants "bloody" without any hesitation.

I can't actually risk opening the entire board as I don't want my laptop to get malfunctioned in this huge lockdown. (Lockdown is extended till may 17th so I won't find any person to repair in case any part gets destroyed while opening)

My whole & sole earning depends on my laptop.
I see that you don't have any other extra laptop or desktop for doing so. That's ok. Just be patient and wait until the lockdown lifts so that you can consult to a technician.

Why are the ants loving my laptop so much??  Huh
I think this is because of the heat that laptops produce.

It didn't happened to me but there are ants on my table and keyboard and I saw the same problem with other people that I've met online. Ants on modems, laptops, desktops and other devices that these ants can stay.

I guess you eat when you use your laptop and when there are ants on my table, the same procedure as @peter0425 did, I spray alcohol on my table and luckily, they were gone.

If worse case scenario happens and your laptop suddenly shut downs, it's possible that those ants affected the board.
Yes, that's because I eat while working on laptop. I read it on the internet that if a ant dies in between the connectors, circuits than it might cause a malfunction. Even though this is a rare case but yet it makes me worry as my laptop has most important backups/etc.
Yes,  that's for sure and it will happen. I haven't tried it but I've read a lot of common problems like this and the same experience so I'm more cautious and to avoid this incident for me.

And if it worries, then create a backup first so that you are prepared if something bad happens. You can put a cloth first before putting the food that you are about to it so that stains from that food or drink will go to the cloth which you can wash later and it won't attract any more ants.
Currently, I've kept my laptop in sun hoping the ants would leave the laptop be because of 38° to 40° current temperature as it is almost 3:00PM here. I'm expecting till 5:00PM thr ants should leave orelse I'm moving onto sprinkling alcohol and blowing it off ASAP.
That's a good solution that you have.

Don't you want to open the board and see the affected areas so you can focus them removed with the use of paintbrush?

Ants will eat up the rubber under the keys and will cause malfunction. I'm always experiencing this type of issue because I eat in front of my desktop. You mix vinegar with chilli and spray it on your keyboard. They'd not come back.
Perhaps, this is another thing I should be worried upon.
I am experiencing some of my keyboard buttons aren't working exactly and I need to press them with force. I'm sure this is because of those anta underneath my keyboard.

Coming to your solution, are you sure my keyboard won't sting after I sprinkled vinegar and chilli? Because I have a bad habbit of eating infront of my screen each time and perhaps vinegar won't make it suitable for me to eat anything again. It might surely kick out the ants but it might even make me feel uncomfortable perhaps.

But still, I'll consider your way if any other solution didn't prove useful in kicking those ants away from my laptop.

Luckily you know the real reason why this is happening.
I it a matter of health. Those ants might be infected or they might be carrying diseases and still they are walking and dying in the same place you put your fingers. Then you put your fingers in your mouth.

Well, you do not keep the basic hygiene rules as a person that's what I understand.
Do you eat your food when there are ants in there? Why not? They are common and they are hardworking creatures.
They are working hard right now to destroy your laptop possibly - that's why I told you to just replace it before it shuts down and never come back in life again.

Well, I thankyou for your suggestion but Thankyou.
I'm not that rich to instantly buy a new laptop by throwing this away. I believe I'm gonna use this laptop for a year more so by no chance I have anything in my mind about throwing away my laptop.

There are some good suggestions above so I'm gonna try them and hope the ants leave.

Coming back to the hygiene you mention,
Yes, I might have no problem eating at the place where ants live. I have no personal problem with ants and also I believe ants cam never spread any disease unlike flies. You should understand the difference between ants & flies. Thanks to google, you can always search if your provided information is relevant.

I'm just concerned if any pesticides/alcohol might damage my board.

I think Alcohol is fine compared to pesticides mate because alcohol is wont leave any stain inside your board not like pesticides that has other compound that may harm your internals.

Just like what @peter0425 says make sure to Blow air right after you sprayed so it will dry faster and also take the plug  first before doing such.

I have same problem in my laptop's keyboard in last year and this is what i did luckily they all died and never comes back again maybe because of the scent of alcohol that remains inside.
It seems like a lot of people have tried with alcohol and I will give it a shot. Thanks for your suggestion mate. I'll try it with thinner or sanitizer.
