Can this coin still be PoW mined? I tried for about 2 hours, but no blocks were found. Based on difficulty, I should have found about 20 over that period.

I've had some trouble locating the last PoW block but it looks like it's been days, weeks, maybe even months since one was found. Everything is PoS.

http://www.presstab.pw/phpexplorer/CAP/block.php?height=2926533

That block was mined after I posted my message. Wink Prior to that it had been nearly 2 days since a PoW block was mined.

Code:
28-Jun-2017 12:05:24 height: 2921333  mint: 10  difficulty: 2.20194583  flags: proof-of-work  tx: 1   *** NEG TIME (1s)
30-Jun-2017 08:33:02 height: 2926428  mint: 10  difficulty: 2.421199  flags: proof-of-work  tx: 1

I can see more recent blocks now, but it does seem to be sporadic, with some big gaps, compared to PoS. For example, between 21st Sep 2016 and 20th Oct 2016 not a single PoW block was mined - or at least, made it into the blockchain.

You're absolutely right. As best I can tell the gaps correspond with times of low market value for CAP. In line with your observations, the spikes in mining I've noticed are tied to Coinwarz switching by profitability.

The combination of PoW/PoS carried CAP during times spent in the bowels of price discovery.

PoW is going strong. CAPs regularly floats to the top of Coinwarz mining profitability list - in fact is was #1 in the past 30 minutes:

The last PoS block of Bottlecaps was mined minutes ago:

If you look at that address you'll see blocks are being mined into it nearly every other day. Maybe some detail on your settings will help us help you get the mining going.

Hi everyone. Just to let you know not dead, still here. Over the next few months I plan to do some with on HBN. If (and this is a big if) I am able to I will try also push some of this over to CAP. But if others want to take my commits and bring them over that would be a good thing.

I'll post here as they happen see if anyone else want to help, or if it is just talk.  My guess is 2018 - 2019 for the final set of commits, with some early ones in 2017.
Can't be waiting so long , I'm out .

Best to monitor the HBN thread as well.

I just started up the wallet and it will not connect .Can anyone help me resolve this issue ?

Do you have peers? use the peer connections from crytopia coin info page and in the debug window console type
Code:
addnode IP add

  • Open the console, navigate: Help > Debug window
  • From the Debug window, click the Console tab
  • Navigate to Cryptopia coin info for CAPs then click Connections
    https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/CoinInfo/?coin=CAP
  • Enter the node data displayed into the console in the above format

Alternatively, you can add he nodes to a file and save it (as ASCII) in your roaming folder as bottlecaps.conf

Let us know if that works!
