You can use same private key for testnet and mainnet, but your balance will be different since the network is different and the chains are different.

there is no such thing as 'your coin in your wallet', your wallet is just an interface to the blockchain network
What you need to keep is the private key and also the file which contains that private key
when you generated your address using your wallet there 3 things produced:
1. Your Private key, 2. Your Public key 3. Your address
remember 1, 2, 3 above all offline. You just can expose only Your Address and Your Public Key, the others NO.
even you generate your ethereum address using MyEtherwallet 3 of those are offline generated.
What you need to keep is the private key and also the file which contains that private key
