And we have seen Canelo coming up in weight and fighting at 175 lbs and losing to Bivol. And this could be another reason for Benavidez not to chase this fight anymore as based on his performance here, he might not be big as he was in 168 lbs. His power doesn't affect Olexandr Gvozdyk, a natural LHW.

And so with this performance, we heard that he wanted to go back to 168 lbs and still wanting to fight Canelo. I think this fight is going to happen in the future. Specially with this kind of performance from Benavidez as we can see that he is beatable.

David Benavidez was exposed in that fight in the sense that his power was not there in the LHW but we got to also credit Olexandr Gvozdyk for standing his ground and finished the fight until the 12th round.

Benavidez was declared the WBC interim LHW champion and i've read some article that he is now waiting to fight the winner of Bivol vs Beterbiev fight which for me the hardest fight of his life if as both have the power and both a natural LHW fighter.

The Mexican Monster has won! Congratulations for him and those who placed bets on him!

Although winning via a unanimous decision, it's obvious his performance wasn't as impressive as many were most probably expecting. And considering that he's facing an old man, it seems he isn't really somebody who can put up much challenge against the likes of Canelo or Bivol or Beterbiev.

He mentioned about injuries and weight and whatnot in defense of his relatively lackluster performance, but whatever. At least he won. He could definitely do so much better next time.

Benavidez ran out of gas in the second half of this fight. When he is fighting somebody his own size, it’s not so easy to just steamroll opponents. I still think with his style he can beat a smaller fighter like Canelo. This performance didn’t get him any closer to making that fight happen. The reason why a fight with Canelo is hyped up so much is because Benavidez has been known as an exciting knockout machine. Grinding out a decision against a faded veteran will kill some of the hype. I don’t see any promoter running to write a $200 million check to make that fight happen.

Yeah, it probably made some think that Benavidez is only dominating because he's been fighting against shorter fighters. I think his fight against Gvozdyk is the first time in his career in which he fought somebody with the same height. I even think a much younger Gvozdyk could have beaten Benavidez if that was the way he fought.

Who knows, perhaps Benavidez's performance would finally push Canelo to sign a deal. If that's how Benavidez would fight Canelo, I'm seeing a Canelo victory.

I thought I was the only one who noticed that, after winning some points in the early rounds and assuring him of a decision, he just wanted to finish the game the killer instinct did not show up when it mattered the most.
This is his debut fight in the light heavyweight and Gvozdyk is not on a caliber of Opetaia, Bivol or Beterbiev he should at least score a knockdown.

The Canelo fight will not happen anymore, Canelo has set his eyes on Crawford and Benavidez will likely face the winner of the Bivol - Beterbiev fight, both fighters are on different road to greatness but people will always remember Canelo Ducking Benavidez when Benavidez wanted to fight him badly.

They are now both in 168 I think it's possible already after Crawford. If Benavidez is even marketable for the fight, they know he only wants a big payday. His team promotes him as if he is the star of boxing, hs isn't even worth for PPV.

Benavidez keeps claiming everyone is ducking him but when offered to fight Morrell he suddenly just dismisses it as if it doesn't make sense. Then offered to fight Beterbiev he also shut his mouth after. The monster that he is yet also ducks all that is being offered to him.

^^ If that is his plan then it will take years for him to fight Morrell. So just imagine what Benavidez will feel if Morrell got the first crack on Canelo after Canelo beat the young Jaime Munguia, hehehe, that will really hurt David.

But for now, David Benavidez should focus on this fight, he should really impress us, not just us but his Excellency Turki Alalshikh as he has promised already that he will have a crack at the winner of Bivol and Beterbiev and the fight will be in the Middle East.

Canelo has a lot in his table before he retires, his rematch or even a Benavidez fight. But it seems that he is not interested as of now. Because it was reported that after this fight, his next will be against another young fighter in Berlanga.

Cherry-picking at its finest, he chooses young guys who are not yet considered top-level fighters instead of fighting Morell or Benavidez if he keeps doing this on his next 3 or 4 fights people will not become interested in going and buying tickets to see him watch, because there's no challenge anymore it's like usual business.

Speaking of Morrell though, why not Benavidez fight him for the belt? Instead of going up in 175 lbs?

The '80s and '90s fighters or the golden era in boxing, where boxers would check and fight the next best guy for money and legacy and if he could not see it in his division he would go up and conquer territories, he could not go to the next level or the light heavyweight division because he already tasted defeat and he wants to protect his reputation

I agree 100%, although we might not like what Don King and Bob Arum has done to some of the boxers in that era money wise, but they were pure business man, sitting down and then let the best fight the best. Now we have boxers being protected and doesn't want to lose like Tank Davis. It's a different era now, everyone is being protected by their managers, promoters or even governing bodies like the corrupt WBC.

I read that Benavidez says that he will fight Morell once he unified all the belts, so let's see. There are a lot of his plate right now, just this morning, I re-watch the Caleb Plant fight of him and he really was too big for 168 lbs in my opinion. Although Caleb has no power, he hit Benavidez in that fight and David keeps coming back for me and throw some of his power punch as well. So this is going to be exciting to see how he will do at LHW division and I think this is his division base on his height and weight as well. He doesn't have to drain himself. But who knows, if he indeed unify at 175 lbs, he will stay in this division as he might have a hard time going and draining himself to 168 lbs to fight Morell.

Whoever will lose in the fight Beterbiev vs Bivol I guess Canelo will face?  Canelo vs Bivol 2 would actually be good so Canelo can regain back that loss. Beterbiev though old, that guy is still massive.

Canelo would want that, he was talking about rematch with Bivol when he loss but it seems he isn't serious with it. Now, for sure he will consider fighing the loser of this fight as that would be favorable for him, and in terms of selling the fight, it's not a problem anymore as Canelo is very popular.

He want's it at 168 lbs, which initially Bivol doesn't want to. But later Bivol said that he is willing to go down to 168 lbs, however, he had a fight already and won. And then this unification which is bigger than a Canelo fight in terms of magnitude and of course the support of HE Turki Alalshikh. Now considered the most powerful of brokers in boxing.

A Bivol vs Canelo II would be interesting to watch, and I can already see what would happen next, if Canelo will even the outcome like beating Bivol in a rematch, there could be a possible trilogy, which will create more hype in the career of Canelo, just a smart strategy in case he'll bite that.

For sure, there are a couple of fights left in Canelo and the two fights that we wanted to see is him against Bivol in a rematch or in his final fight to go after Benavidez and to silence all his critics that he duck David and avoid him at all cost.

As we have seen in Benavidez, he no longer look for Canelo to fight him this year. He has moved up to 175 lbs and looking for the winner of Beterbiev vs Bivol fight.

And the ball is up to Canelo and his manager, Benavidez is just waiting for Canelo maybe up till next year.

I'm not really sure if Canelo wanted to test the 175 lbs again after what Bivol has done to him. He is still the A-side, and so if ever either Bivol or Beterbiev or Benavidez wants Canelo, it could be in a catch-weight.

In any case, having Bivol, Benavidez and Benavidez at light heavy weight is already huge for this division. But the thing is the money is still with Canelo, however, with the involvement of Saudi Arabia, this 3 might fight it out against each other and Canelo will be left at his comfortable super middle weight class without fighting any of the big names in light heavy.

That should be the main goal of Benavidez here, to win impressively, knocking out Gvozdyk.

And as we have seen in the last 2 week, Saudi is willing to have Benavidez fight the winner of Bivol vs Beterbiev. He got the attention already and so his request is already on the pipeline by  Turki Alalshikh.

The ball is now on the side of Benavidez that he is the one that everyone is talking about, the new Mexican superstar.

The light heavyweight is the best division suited for Benavidez, Canelo will not yield to the demand to fight Benavidez it will cost him a lot, the light heavyweight is ruled by two Russians imagine Benavidez adding to the challenges of ruling the Light heavyweight, Beterbiev, Bivol, and Benavidez are the three superstars that will fight for who will reign in this division.

I expect Benavidez to win this and he should win impressively and he will challenge the winner of the Beterbiev - Bivol match, the Light heavyweight division has become interesting because of the entrance of Benavidez.

Sounds very strategic if Benavidez can wipe the two out and then Canelo comes in to beat him. He tried Bivol and lost which would be a good idea to see if Benavidez can eliminate Bivol from the picture and the old Beterbiev will be the only one they are up to beat.

Gvozdyk was the GOAT of the light heavyweight before Beterbiev took away the crown by knocking him out in the 10th round, this is a good fight for Benavidez I don't want to call this a tune or a consolation fight because Gvozdyk can still fight and poised a huge challenge for Benavidez.

Benavidez must win impressively so he can call out the winner of the Bivol - Berterbiev match, this will gauge Beterbiev's power if he can take it from Super Middleweight to the Light Heavyweight, Canelo will continue to duck him so he makes the right decision on going up and conquer other territories.

I think Benavidez can defeat Gvozdyk in a few rounds without issues. He looks bigger with his height, he won't need much adjustment but a few lbs only to 175. Who he will be challenging next might just be his greatest challenge whichever of the two.
Olexandr “The Nail” Gvozdyk is a decent fighter I am not aware of who this fighter is I have to watch and analyze his fight against Beterbiev to see if he is good or he can match Benavidez's rapid punches and tenacity and based on what I saw and if he has that kind of performance when he fought Beterbiev I think we have a good fight coming between David Benavidez vs. Olexandr Gvozdyk, but eventually, Benavidez can win the match, Gvozdyk had a hard time against pressure fighter

Quote
Canelo is moving on now, although who he will be fighting is someone from his gym also. Some people are asking what got into him already after evading Benavidez.
The titles and reputation made Canelo a wise businessman he needs to protect his legacy and the flow of money, he comes a long way to waste it by risking it against a guy who has a chance to beat him.
