I would like to see heavyweight boxing become more popular again but the sport lacks any true stars like Mike Tyson or Evander Holyfield.  At least Mayweather helped keep boxing alive with his perfect record but boxing isn't even close in popularity compared to what it was 20-30 years ago.  Now it seems to mostly be about UFC.

OP should change the title of this thread.

Matthyse vs Pacquiao's over as the discussion keeps on going and change it probably to "Boxing discussion".
Was supposed to say the same thing earlier but i completely forgot yet the fight is already over and theres nothing to talk about this matter anymore.
Thanks for noticing that as well, if someone can create a new thread for the continuation of the discussion but if OP will notice this and change the title.

That's better.

Another interesting note regarding Manny. His (former) manager, Bob Arum is in Manila. I was quite surprised to read the news. Maybe Arum is cooking something for Manny:

Quote
Arum Arrives in The Philippines To Meet With Manny Pacquiao

According to several reports in the Philippines, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has arrived to General Santos City for a face to face meeting with eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao.

Arum is going to talk with Pacquiao regarding his boxing future and obviously to promote his next fight.

https://www.boxingscene.com/arum-arrives-philippines-meet-with-manny-pacquiao--130772

Are you looking perhaps for another big money fight for Manny in the US then? Is Bob convinced that Manny has it and the still has the potential to bring people to watch him again in the US?

If I'm in the shoes of Manny. I wouldn't get myself involved with Uncle Bob. Arum already milked Pacquiao and its time for him to make his stance about that. He don't need money fights anymore, yes he can still pull the trigger but it doesn't mean he needs to go on and fight. Nothing for Manny to proved and don't let Arum ruined him before he hang up his gloves.
If Arum is on Philippines to meet manny then theres no doubt that he would really have that motive which he would definitely offer partnerships once again and as you said i dont even see a reason for manny to receive such offer after all these years of milking he can able to stand on his own without any tie-ups but well its still his own decision if he would welcome but for me its too late yet hes already near on the retirement.

Weird though. Why would Arum not be in the side of Manny when he fought Mattysse? That old fart is up to something again and he has the nerves to travel to The Philippines and personally talk to Pacquiao. I sense something in here that it will not favor Pacquiao or even Buboy. That bastard is so f**** greedy, he has the next cash cow already, Terrence Crawford. Is he trying to setup Manny with Crawford then? So that Crawford can sort of carry the torch for Top Rank and legitimize himself as the true and next cash cow? Really wise Arum!!!
Anything for money that greedy old man would really make his face thick and wont really be ashamed to visit on manny's homeland even though people do already saw on whats the possible purpose he do have on his visit.

Last post was July 26 and then bumped today Undecided

Fine in my own view if it's still about the topic but this thread is now getting lots of off-topic discussions. Just look at the recent replies here. The fight was over for half a month now.

OP you must closed this thread now or for other users please don't bumped this anymore.

Manny looked pretty sharp and explosive, good stamina until the end. This makes the dream fight of Pac vs Loma closer. Of course Pac at 135 will have extra difficulties and Loma is just at his peak... too difficult.. but imagine the clusterfuck in boxing world if he pulls a win, would be a perfect retirement match.
Pac vs Crawford also ideal retirement match if he can end Crawfords undefeated record. Floyd rated him the best p2p currently.

It has to be one of these two. I don't want to see a Horn rematch if it has to be the last Pac fight.
I don't think Pacman vs Lomachengko is going to happen. Lomachenko's terms if fight will happen is no catch weight. We all know that Manny's last fights are mostly on catch weight. That's why for the past few years, he never had a good knock down because the challenger is usually bigger and can fight with his weight class.

Just an update about Lucas Matthysse, after his TKO loss on the 7th round with Manny Pacquiao last July 15 at Kuala Lumpur, the former WBA welterweight champion announced that after 11 years of professional boxing, he is hanging the gloves. Lucas Matthysse has a record of 39 wins (36 KOs) and 5 losses.

Pacman won by TKO. He’s now a world champion again. He should have never joined the political world and should have stayed at the boxing ring. At his age, I’m impressed by his performance. Imo, I think he should have retired a long time ago but it looks like he’s still got some energy left. Based from his previous matches, he even got slower as compared to before.
All athletes no matter how good they are need to retire at some point of their career, while I would love to watch Manny fighting forever I prefer that he retires with dignity while he still has some gas left in the tank, also if Manny wants to get in politics that is his decision, I am not from the Philippines but I'm sure he is the most popular athlete there and probably the most known person from that country, so it is likely he has a shot at becoming the president of that country in the future and while many could argue he has no experience the fact that you cannot corrupt him since he is a millionaire already and cares about his country could be enough to do a good job.

Doesn't seem to matter about experience when elections are simply popularity contests. I mean look how many movie stars, actors, athletes or otherwise have gone into government jobs with absolutely no experience. The world is a joke if you really think about it, beat a few people up, become popular and boom, you're a mayoral candidate!

Right.I've known Manny not just a real fighter in the boxing arena, but also a man with a good heart.I know how he had helped those indigent people who come to knock at their houses and went home with some money onhand. So i guess he is born to be a champion in return of all the goodness he had shown to all the helpless people who comes for him to ask an assistance.

The performance put up by Pacquiao was exceptional, if not outright unbelievable. I am not sure whether he will be interested in another bout against Mayweather. But if it happens, then it will be legendary.
A great fight show by two champions around the world but Manny is really a great one. I hears in the news that he will still looking for a fight this year maybe in December but I think its too risky for Manny now to fight considerings its health issues.

I didn't see this match, but it is interesting to note that you don't see  too many threads for specific sports.

I'm guessing it has to do with the obvious fact that there are many Filipino posters here  Cool

The fighting Senator and the Legend of Boxing Manny Pacquiao still have the guts to win a TKO, after 9 years he has still power punch. He now a World Champion again, I think he needs one big fight and win again by TKO and then he must retire after that. Ending a career depending his belt would be a better one.

He's not exactly old... I mean, yes, 39 is relatively old in the sport of boxing, but overall he's not even middle-aged yet. He's still got a few years left in him technically, perhaps even 5-6 years if he's careful. Look at Shannon Briggs, Klitschko etc, these are heavyweights that kept going into their 40s, it should be a lot easier for a welterweight.

Round 3: Matthysse gets dropped! An uppercut did the damage. He’s back to his feet as Pacquiao goes for the finish

Round 5: Matthysse just took a knee after getting hit with a shot on the temple. Second knockdown of the fight and the round ends a second later

Round 7: Pacquiao gets marked up, fires off four more punches in return. Vicious uppercut by Pacquiao. Manny remains the aggressor as Matthysse struggles to land the fight-changing power shots. Pacquiao puts Matthysse down for a third time and that’s it! Manny Pacquiao’s first stoppage win in nine years.

maybe because of his age, but I think Manny Pacquiao still have the energy to fight Cheesy
He isn't too old to retire as long as he can manage his physical and mental strength reserve for 2 to 4 more years he's going to be fine.

2 to 4 years would be a perfect range before Manny could finally retire. He showed us that he still got it despite of the devastating loss and age. I agree with the other comment below that there's something different from the new coaching style from his new coach. I hope to see another good fight from him on his next match
That's perfect for him to retire if all of the remaining fights he had are all wins.

There are fans that aren't noticing the coaching style but his coach was proud enough to win the game and there's a detailed part when he said that their plan worked.

We may haven't noticed that punch but I guess that's the part of what he's talking about the plan.

It was an honor watching him box once again, I've heard that he wants to keep on boxing until he can't box anymore, his performance was likewise not like his past fights wherein he showed the quickness and how agile ans deadly he can be in the ring, its not yet the end for Pacquiao, but again it is good news since I won the bet! Thanks Manny!
Its true, and their fight was good, because Manny gives a great punch to Matthysse, because we know already that Manny have a strong punch. In the third round we cant believe it because Matyhesse get Tko already, so its a good sign that Manny wins over Mattyhsse. He is a great boxer in all so its no wonder that he wins.
