India is not a poor country! then why they need donations...

And Indian government never made any announcements regarding the collected PM funds in 2020 and where they spent it so it all goes to the pockets of some politicians not to the people who are really suffering so if anyone wants to donate then donate it to charity not to the government anymore!
if aid clearly cannot always see whether the country is a rich or poor country, the main goal is indeed to provide assistance because of the sympathy that a country has experienced.
Where at this time it is clear that India is indeed experiencing difficulties due to the pandemic which has soared very high beyond all estimates that have been working well so far.

If aid given to a country and misused by irresponsible government officials, it is clear that in a situation of distress, it is certainly not wise to do so. but all will not be able to intervene in the aid given to the country whose aid is sent, if it is misused, it is certain that in the future many countries will not want to help anymore.

Frankly, anything that is done for assistance to India is very positive and let it be that helping is for humanitarian purposes only.

I don't agree with it, any help from the other government to the suffering country is for political reasons in my opinion. India produces the most vaccines but other countries are buying them for their people, if they really thought that the condition in India is pathetic then they should give some percentage of vaccines to them instead of buying even higher doses than what their people needs.

A warning notice sent by him in the indirect way why the Indian government should not ban the crypto currencies completely! Cool

I didn't know in what form the government accepted the donation, like who received the funds from him and how they are going to convert the money into their fiat?
You could look at it that way, but a donation is a donation. A lot of people have suffered in that second wave although the people are to be blamed for it too. If I recall, it wasn't directly donated to the government but to a foundation. Maybe they have a P2P exchange to do the conversion. Hopefully, more donations will come in after what Bret Lee did.

There are many campaign for charity already on this forum and they are very good because of the high transperancy and number of participant. When you run a charity program, there must be a person or a group of people who know how to arrange everything in a good order while still provide the evidence. This evidence will inspire other to join in any form (such as being a volunteer or donate money/crypto)
But they didn't last that long and a lot of users are skeptic as to whether they are really using the donation right or they are profiting out of it. I hope that we will see more of this kind of donation/charity drives in this forum because we have to make a good face for bitcoin and other cryptocurrency.

That's kind of making a statement, though ultimately we know that India would just convert the bitcoin into fiat immediately in order to buy something for the aid of their people. This may come across as disrespecting and challenging the authority of the Indian government when it comes to enforcing their own laws and regulations on the country, but then again this is done in good will so I don't think they would have much to say about Bret Lee's gesture. It would be funny if the Indian government receives a lot of donations in the form of bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Makes one think whether they'll give in or not.

This is nice considering this forum isn't really a good place for charities. I feel bad for what happened to India but at the same time frustrated because they did it to themselves by going to an event that will definitely be packed with people, now they are suffering the consequences of a really big wave in the pandemic.

But in tough time of corona Pandemic a renowned Australian fast bowler who we remember from our childhood,Bret Lee has donated 1 Bitcoin to Indian government to fight with oxygen supply shortage which is equal to 40 Lakh INR approximately at current bitcoin prices. It is not big donation but the main point is charity done in bitcoin which remarks the Indian government who is moves to finalize crypto bills.
The BJP lead government really does not care about the people and they will not be transparent about the amount of money they get as donation as there is no audit for the money they get and we need a blockchain to monitor all the transactions but the problem is that they hate transparency and they hate bitcoin as well because every transaction is registered as a public audit  Tongue Cheesy.
Exactly, the transparency of the blockchain is the main reason governments that no longer respond to people'd demands are opposing BITCOIN and anything on the chain. It is a timestamped proof of everything, making it harder to thin out the crypto before it arrives to the intended receiver (i.e. people).

It is great to see a real world example where the power of BTC can be used in charitable events. It is a proof-of-concept that crypto can do better than fiat can, it is only a matter of time...

Yes, Brett Lee has indeed donated 1 bitcoin to crypto relief foundation. I am glad that he didn't donate to PM cares fund otherwise his donation wouldn't have reached the needy people of India. But I don't like to link it to the upcoming crypto bill in any way.

Because India is going to ban crypto for sure. The bill has been finalized and will possibly be approved in upcoming parliamentary sessions. There's no doubt about it. It is just getting delayed due to the current covid situation in the country.

How ironic that their Government is accepting something that they are trying to reject for a long time.

It is good to see that players are donating money in any asset class but the sad truth should be will the money be used to help people.

Yeah, it's really hard to trust them with that money especially that it's chaos out there. People wouldn't ask for audit of this donation since not everyone knows it and most likely doesn't care as long as they think someone is going to help them.

In some news, articles, television, all are mourning India which is being hit by a big disaster. Covid 19 is back on track with bigger casualties. so that many victims are scattered and even the inadequate cremation place becomes a big problem. very concerned about the crisis situation in India. and this is a concern for everyone to stay healthy.
and for the donors who have donated their prices to ease the burden on our brothers in India this is a great charity.

I hope India can get out of this big disaster and return to being a country full of smiles.

LOL.. I can just imagine the reaction from the bureaucrats and politicians. A few months back, they uploaded a bill to the parliament website, which would make ownership of cryptocurrency a criminal offense, which is punishable by up to 10 years in jail. Now the donations are coming in the form of cryptocurrency and the bureaucrats have no option other than to allow it. If they reject such payments, then people will accuse them of playing politics with people's lives.
I guess they really need to swallow their pride in this pandemic. They have to weight it right now, accept bitcoin as donations or let the country suffer the worst because of the pandemic. Set politics aside and think of the good effects that bitcoin can bring to them, and help to alleviate the situation. Now, if they insists on not accepting donations thru bitcoin, then we can't do anything about it, not even Bret Lee. But I do hope the government will make the right decision here.

I think it's a nice gesture because it can encourage India to review their stance on Bitcoin and offer reasonable regulations. After all, any help with oxygen in hospitals during the pandemic is much needed, so it would make no sense for them not to accept this donation just because it's done in BTC. It's good to see such gestures happen because it ruins the stereotypical view of Bitcoin as the money of criminals. It would be nice to hear a follow-up on this one when/if the authorities react officially to this donation.

It would be interesting to know what their reactions are to such donations, but they are certainly not comfortable in this situation when any help is welcome. Maybe after all there will be a change of opinion, and maybe Indian politicians will start dealing with real problems - because as far as I can see in the news the health system is in a catastrophic state - so let them send to prison all those responsible - and let go of stupid ideas to send someone to jail for as much as 10 years for trading crypto.

From famous people, I noticed that Vitalik sent 100 ETH (although there are 2 links), so maybe it's more.

This is what matters to us who want to donate because most of the time they will just use the current situation for business. They said not all charities can be trusted especially those who don't want to show their current balance. Of course, everyone can show their current progress with the money but no one can tell if the money they used is all of the donations given by the donors. Of course, there are exceptions to this because there are some people who are willing to help too and they are ready to use their personal money just to continue helping the poor and the needy.
