My possible explanations for GPUMAX are
1) he is laundering his own bitcoins - so they won't be dirty when he cashes out of the ponzi
2) he is laundering other people's bitcoins (eg. Silk Road)
3) he is running a legitimate business/giveaway (paid out of his own pocket) to gain reputation so as to be able to run an illegitimate business

I'd love to see any of the sides of the ponzi-vs-legit discussion swallow their own hats 
Within two weeks, either Pirate will have paid everyone back, he'll have disappeared, or he'll still be stalling for time. At that point, it should be obvious even to those who are willfully blind.
