OP, do you have any evidence or you just want to share your paranoia, negative gut feeling and general pessimism?

I think this is 'normal' tradeaction especially because people mentioned about an hour earlier on the trollbox something like
a: "should we pump ppc? It's easy to pump"
b: "or pump bitcoin 10%"

so i would say it's all "normal"

I think we can expect BTC-e to slowly go back to its place in relation to the other exchanges (a few dollars below). Maybe this whole thing repeats later again because i think someone could have made profit with that action if he was smart. In case this was lucrative we'll see it again.

Satoshi is rolling in his grave. #bitcoin
Btc-e wasn't hacked in 2012, its the payment processors liberty reserve key that got compromised, yes it was their key and yes it was bruteforced, but
the exchange itself and user data were never in question, and i doubt they are now.
Anyways, i was amung the users that sold btc to that "fake" LR USD, and btc-e covered it all in rollback of trades on their expense.
cheers

That doesn't even look like a pump, looks like people want to GTFO of the exchange.

If you have money on BTC-E, get out now. With BTC exchanges you are never too paranoid.

strange things always happens in BTC-e. Like instant dumps from $500 to $102 or panic buys leading to $3000+.

Nothing unusual.

So even when the price goes up people say a exchange got hacked/insolvent and crypto is done?  Interesting...
BTC-E traders are paying a 5% premium right now (and BTC-E is usually way below other exchanges). That's not exactly just "price going up".

Dev on BTC-E chat, just said the site itself was not hacked.

It appears they received a large fake LR deposit.

dev: bitcoinism, they able to withdraw small amount of BTC on our bitcoin server

dev: we got some fake LR deposits so they just bought btc and withdraw

Added: Looks like they are going to do a rollback

dev: we do rollback right now

THIS QUOTE IS FROM 2012, I think it makes sense to point this out so no one is being lead into thinking this concerns the current actions. Smiley I'm sure, fonzie didn't mean to mislead anyone Wink

I'm sure you didn't post this just to increase your pay per post quota but
YOU MUST BE BLIND not to see the 2012 on that post.

Keep in mind they are ukrainians. However no information about real country of residence - Ukraine is under civil war. Everything could happen there.

Its always been like that with that exchange lol.

Sketch price for reasons, deposits not being credited by payeer which they promote their site on. Security flaws or something other related problems.

But, even if this is a old history, just know history always repeats itself.

From https://btc-e.com/news/81:

Quote
Dear users of the Exchange Btc-e.com

The exchange is not going to close. We will refund all losses from our reserves.

Neither the servers nor the database were compromised. There were no SQL injections.

At 04:07 MSK (GMT+4) our LR API Secret Key was compromised. It's 16 uppercase, lowercase letters and digits. They may have bruteforced it for long.

Using the key the hacker imitated LR deposits from many accounts and bought up Bitcoins, Namecoins and Litecoins.

We lost our daily volume, approx. 4500 BTC. The attacker couldn't withdraw more
as most BTC were distributed over several offline wallets.

At 10:30 we restored the database to the state it was at 04:00, right before the attack. All trades after 4:00 are reverted.

People who attempted withdrawals before 04:00 MSK will get their funds withdrawn later today.

For people who deposited BTC, LTC and NMC after 04:00 MSK the funds will be put to their balances before market opens.
We are working on the scripts for this.

If you deposited USD after 04:00 MSK you should send us your login, amount and payment system used by email or PM.

Our plan:

1. The trade will be disabled until we restore the balances to the point before market crash.

2. After that, the trade and deposit/withdrawal will be back on, approx. within 1-2 days.

Legen -wait for it- dary
BTC-e is the oldest remaining exchange
Established July or August 2011

Nope. Paymium was already active (operating as Bitcoin Central) in 2010 and VirWoX started BTC trading in Q2 2011 - they are not big, but older.

Heh, I didn't know either of them were still around

Isn't BTC-E pretty much the longest running exchange out there? Anonymous owners, yes, but what protection did knowing that MagicalTux owned MtGox?  Not that I'm endorsing them I'm just wondering what the cause of this latest fearmongering is?
Bitstamp has been running since 2012, way before BTC-E.

So, knowing Karpeles didn't help, so the fact that we know nothing about BTC-E owners makes no difference?
