Isn't BTC-E pretty much the longest running exchange out there? Anonymous owners, yes, but what protection did knowing that MagicalTux owned MtGox? Not that I'm endorsing them I'm just wondering what the cause of this latest fearmongering is?

Oh they were actually hacked back in 2012? I always figured they never experienced any real hack or anything, unlike many other exchanges. This is starting to get really interesting, guess I should go and make sure I don't have any funds on BTC-e or anything...
It's most likely a short squeeze/panic buying session which is long overdue. Other exchanges are now following.
