Guide for crypto beginners. Must read.

Investing in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is a wild ride if you’ve got the stomach for it. More and more retail investors and speculators are piling on board in hopes of getting their shot at the moon. But as the popularity of digital currency continues to surge, so do Bitcoin and cryptocurrency-related scams and cyberattacks.

Between October 2020 and May 2021 — around Bitcoin’s off-the-charts bull run — phishing, company impersonations, and other Bitcoin-connected cyberattacks and scams surged by almost 200%. Bitcoin’s price shot up by almost 400% to nearly $65,000 during that time.

If Bitcoin goes on another bull run, you better believe black-hatted cyber crooks will be coming along too. Looking to get up to snuff on Bitcoin scams? Want to know how to properly safeguard your investments? Read on to find out.

you lost btc after they recovered them?
finally i lost my btc worth 5600 which is recovered by datrek who is also held responsible for this
bcos they only created storage x wallet for me and kept my recovered funds and when i requested them to transfer the same to my wallet
before they do it it is hacked

i suspect all is done by storage x wallet and staff of the same shoudl have done this bcos no one else no knows this information of this wallet

i am from india i cannot police bcos bitcoin is not a legal payment in india for any transactions so far

Storage x wallet? I can't find anything like that. Do you mean storx? That's an altcoin.
Can you give us a link to that wallet? Is it an online custodial wallet, or something you've installed on your phone?

Did you have positive balance there? For how long? Did you withdraw anything? Maybe the whole wallet is a scam and it only showed positive balance as a shell, without the ability to withdraw anything?
Do you have any transaction history? Addresses and screenshots might help us to at least say if you ever had the coins.

That request that they need 13% of lost coins looks bad from the start because if a company was getting my coins back I'd tell them to take a fee from whatever they manage to recover. I wouldn't send them % of what I lost not knowing if they will be able to get the whole amount.

What are the factors that cause your bitcoins to be lost, forget how to access them, get hacked, or other factors. What I regret is that bitcoin uses a cryptographic system and is decentralized, so there is no legal entity or party controlling it. It's very difficult if we want to contact the authorities, I hope that your bitcoins come back soon.
Based on the @OP story it seems he got scammed by using a recoverable company, it's just a gimmick the recovery company said the funds can be retrieved but then the sites/account got hacked.

If you regret using/hold/buy Bitcoin due to decentralized nature, Bitcoin isn't for you. Decentralized nature is a one of some purpose why it's created, as you can see there are so many centralized stuff around us e.g. bank, fiat money etc.

I was holding bitcoin worth 5650 USD which has funds recently recovered from Datrek services firm in March 2021
So you used this service datrekrecoverycompany.com to recover lost btc or you lost btc after they recovered them?

so i paid 650 USD which is 13 % of 5000 USD with the help of Datrek services on April 12 2021
Can you explain how you made the payment? Have you been in contact with a member of the team staff?

Another important question, in which cuntry you live or can you say about crypto regulations in your country? This is important to determine who you can turn to to help you solve your problem, get your money back perhaps, and the most important thing is to hold the person who did this act accountable if he was a known party.

For some people a few hundred dollars are equal to  ,,multi thousands''  and I think its worth to contact your country's official bodies. As I get the information(which may not 100% true) there are no  official bodies to complain against crypto scams but you may try to contact police. Another solution may be to contact the exchange  and report the feud actions against you.
The amount someone is scam with matters, if it is just small amount of money, investigating who the scammer is may not worth it because the victim will pay money for investigation which is in thousand dollars, so if the amount is low, the person should just overlook it for not to lose more money which does not worth it at all. But if the amount is huge, it can be reported, like to his lawyer that know the next appropriate step to take.

I was holding bitcoin worth 5650 USD which has funds recently recovered from Datrek services firm in March 2021
they said they need to mine the recovered funds with 13% of the funds recovered from the Scammers
so i paid 650 USD which is 13 % of 5000 USD with the help of Datrek services on April 12 2021
when i login to Storage X wallet where i was holding 5650 USD on april 13 my balance shows 0 USD
Storage x wallet? Is this a new kind of wallet? Because, I never heard of this before. This is why I do not like to deposit big funds on the wallets that are new because they can be risky. You could have done a research first before you deposit or you can test the wallet by depositing small funds only.

There are lots of wallets out there that are legit. Cannot understand why so many people complain of getting scammed when it was their fault anyway. Another thing is that btc is banned in India right? You will be in great trouble if you let authorities in your country know this issue. Do not attempt it but you can just seek help online or in the forum. You need to check their trust page first if they are legit.

i heard there are few hackers who could recovery btc
if some one get idea pls help to recover the lost btc which is hard earned savings for years
hope u understand the context here
It must be another scammer offering help. I understand your sadness, but as I said before: only law enforcement can help you. To begin with, just go to your local police station and raise your problems (or refer to this thread).

The only way to recover your btc is to find the culprit and then force him to return the btc. In the history of bitcoin (afaik), there has never been a hacker who has been able to crack or guess a bitcoin private key technically without supporting clues because not only hacking knowledge is required, but also device resources (currently inadequate).

edit:
I was holding bitcoin worth 5650 USD which has funds recently recovered from Datrek services firm in March 2021

Understand that StorageX Wallet is their own platform (Datrek service) and actually they don't recover anything. They just write $5650 in your account which doesn't represent real BTC, it's easy to do.

By the way, where exactly did you lose $5650 before being "recovered" by the Datrek service? This confuses me even more  Huh

A hacker unable to find right person to recover the funds? I don't understand, maybe you mean there's a hacker who can recover Bitcoin but you unable to find the right hacker it is? Don't get me wrong, a real hacker wouldn't reveal his identity and don't overestimate a hacker can do anything like retrieve the lost funds. Private key have 12 or 24 different words combined, brute force doesn't help since it's took really really long time consuming.

I don't know how much it is, but if it's really bigger then contact your law enforcement on your local country.

i was using Storage X wallet and someone from them only done this hacking i lost 6000 USD 6 months ago
i have all the evidence but could not get back as i have been searching for someone to help me
lost almost my entire saving sin this scam as i am from india lost huge in INR

Yeah, but I will say would it be enough to search on how to get back your funds?
maybe you should put in consideration to know if the fund will cover all expenses to track the wallet that stole your BTC and with the value being mentioned in dollar is only 0.15BTC with the current market price. I will tell you to hold and monitor if the funds has been moved to an exchange  account then write to their support with the wallet that stole your funds to lock frozen the the user account.

Mate, why are you using that wallet in the first place? I've been active in the bitcoin/cryptocurrency space for 5 years now and I've never heard of this wallet.

i agree. And infact even you make research about that Storage X wallet there's no information that can be found in the internet..

So it's a big question to be honest how OP ended up to that wallet at the first place and what comes to his mind to store that kind of amount of money "600usd" for such type of wallet..  Huh

If this is the wallet in question, then it is clearly a scam. I have tried registering 2 accounts with random credentials without email confirmation (as usual). And this wallet only generates one BTC deposit address in each account.
Scammer address: 1A3eaJu8ZeJx1KBkYkMWGnQwZHdJB8ccJk

i asked my exchange and no response from it
Of course they won't hear you anymore because they got your money, only law enforcement can help you and that depends on how much they care about your case.

This-should-be-very-obvious-tip: always use reputable wallet software. The same reason why you probably wouldn't store your money on some bank that no one has ever heard of.

Hacker probably use mixers which make this job very complex to solve.

Uh.. misquoted?

@Mk4 is right, some people just use any wallet they come across to store their assets, maybe they are not aware of using wallets with good reviews from users and something other people are familiar with, it will go to some extent to minimize loss because you are able to read the experience of other users.
It doesn't sound like the customer service of this wallet provider is active otherwise 6 months and still no good reply. Too bad.

i am from chennai india
how do i contact Law enforcement to retrieve my bitcoin
is there anyway to submit my case and retrieve my funds pls advise
You should elaborate the details here before we give you an exact thing to do , because you are claiming to be scammed but not even mentioned how it happens .

and also as India has no clear stand about Bitcoin then maybe you will be facing another problem here.

i was using Storage X wallet and someone from them only done this hacking i lost 6000 USD 6 months ago
i have all the evidence but could not get back as i have been searching for someone to help me

so Have been hacked ? then this is a really big problem because surely you will prove it hardly to know who scammed you and how this happened .

This one https://www.storagex.net/ (https://storagexoffshorewallet.blogspot.com/) ? The claim they protected millions of dollars for thousands of clients sounds shady af and you could be right that the custodial wallet provider are also the people behind the theft. It's supposed to be registered in England but I don't know how filing a case against companies in another country works (contact a lawyer).

edit: Never mind about filing a case because the scammer most likely has no real connection to that company.

what do u mean by chain analysis here
i dont know whom to contact in India and how should i approach or is there any website for Law enforcement pls explain in detail
Chainanalysis is an organisation that can help to track the scammers, but there is possibility that the scammer is anonymous to the extent he may not be found. They might even educate you on how you can do little tracking yourself but I am not that sure about this.

Hacker probably use mixers which make this job very complex to solve.
