Thanks for posting the slack logs Azeh!  Greatly enjoyed the commentary on DRK and it's current rise.  I have been curious about the instant TX; it's good to hear James and BTCDdev's perspective on this Smiley

I spent all of 10 minutes on the analysis and most of that was reading the BTT thread on blockchain reorgs. This is happening a lot, like waves in the ocean. that is why 3 to 6 confirms for BTC and its petahash network and 10 minute blocktimes. You start taking shortcuts and...

With the MGW work I am having to get 100% consensus on 3 different nodes. even when they are in the same data center, they are not always agreeing, certainly not with just 1 confirmation. When they are scattered around the world, then it is much worse.

So the key question is on a fast send if that can be spent right away and if it can and it is withdrawn as BTC and the blockchain reorgs, then...

I dont have answers (positive or negative), just some few questions

James

Whether it be 10 minutes or 10 hours, I appreciate the insight James!  With no coding background myself, it's always educational to hear analysis from a code-master such as yourself Smiley

i'm getting an error message saying my wallet can't get a lock on the database.
So I backed up my conf file and wallet and re installed the BTCD dark qt. Then i reinserted my wallet.dat and BTCD.conf file into my btcd roaming file.

Now my wallet says it has no active connections.

Any ideas how to resolve this?

Do you have nodes in your conf?

Yes. I downloaded the conf file from the OP last week.

I reloaded my previous appdata file. So now i'm getting the same error message " can't get a lock on the database".

any ideas how to fix it?
You NEED wait till few hours with open wallet to get first connection

I went to http://bitcoindark.pw/ to find a conf file and compare it to the conf file i downloaded using the link on the OP for this thread. I was missing several nodes.  All good now.

As long as we are above monacoin, there is at least a little bit of sanity.

So this is how it is looking right now:

Quote
9     MonaCoin    5,482 BTC    0.00033269 BTC    16,477,250 MONA    34 BTC    36.70 %
10     BitcoinDark    5,240 BTC    0.00434970 BTC    1,204,603 BTCD    6 BTC    -7.58 %

Did you know that MonaCoin isn't just big in Japan but get's traded in China, too?

BitcoinDark Slack Log (2/12/15)

00:00:53      no o.O
00:01:27      did he get hit on the head while wrestling bears naked?
00:14:51      back on topic: is it already possible to anonymously send/receive BTCD?
00:16:56      Teleport isn't functional yet
00:17:22      ah, have you got any estimates?
00:17:30      btw I deserve to be punched for asking that
00:17:39      and you should say "when it's ready" I guess hehe
00:17:43
00:17:57      teleports have been working in the lab since last summer
00:18:01      and you should say "when it's ready" I guess hehe
00:18:06      the problem is that it is not easy to use
00:18:36      and more importantly there needs to be a safe way to get them input into the teleport system
00:18:55      so the InstantDEX and MGW will be filling these functions
00:19:10      and since MGW is done and I am working on InstantDEX now
00:19:14      ahh, will they use teleport in the background?
00:19:24      the otherway
00:19:28      shit, exciting days
00:19:31      teleport uses them
00:19:56      but this is very critical to get exactly right and I am still waiting on design review feedback
00:20:09      so another round of patching any weaknesses found
00:20:20      by then I would think the GUI is being ready
00:20:31      so I can say for sure that it will be ready on
00:20:47
00:20:55      a Tuesday
00:21:10      great
00:21:21      just not sure which Tuesday yet
00:21:44      will you sit on it for a whole week if it's done on a Wednesday?
00:21:51      yes
00:21:57      now i have to
00:22:01      and it is all your fault
00:22:15      by observing the future
00:22:20      sorry everyone, teleport is delayed! nippybrit wants to hold james to his word
00:22:30      stupid quantum mechanics!
00:22:38      you killed the snotkitten in the box
00:22:46      haha
00:22:58      I couldn't help but lift the lid
00:23:09      james can you speculate as to drk's recent price rise?
00:23:26      speculate?
00:23:34      they released their instant tx's
00:23:37      or did i miss some announcement?
00:23:39      oh
00:23:39      did any new poker services start using it?
00:24:14      crackers is darksend still closed source?
00:24:35      i hope the instant drk is stable...
00:24:48      darkcointalk.org/threads/v0-11-1-instantx-release.3923
00:25:07      not sure anout darksend...
00:25:16      thoguht it all was?
00:25:50      all of darkcoin is closed source?
00:26:15      maybe it's also in multiple quantum states
00:26:19      so they can't open it
00:26:24      "v0.11.1 utilizes a fully implemented version of InstantX. To try InstantX, use the QT wallet and simply click the “InstantX” checkbox when sending money. Funds send using InstantX will gain 5 masternode-level confirmations within seconds from the network, then within an average of 1.25 minutes a 6th block-level confirmation will make funds spendable on most websites."
00:26:47      so with their Instant tx is it as fast as NXT and BTCD
00:26:52      To lock a transaction via IX, 15 of 25 elected masternodes must respond by voting
00:27:18      nice overall presentation of information.
00:27:28      this just sounds a bit dangerous, for the entire blockchain to use this....
00:27:48      it is one thing for offchain things as it has the blockchain to crosscheck against
00:28:11      but having the blockchain essentially use offchain consensus of 15 nodes...
00:28:41      I wonder how they ensure that the elected nodes are trustworthy
00:28:51      so if any group gets control of 15 masternodes they could collude?
00:28:57      probably they select randomly
00:29:04      maybe they randomly get reelected quite frequently?
00:29:08      would that prevent collusion?
00:29:25      so as long as the masternodes are secure there wont be any problems
00:29:33      unless
00:29:39      the network forks
00:29:52      the owner of the MN don't have conroll of being elected... or control if they get MN payments
00:29:57      AFAIK
00:30:03      and they do all the time. so how are forks resolved in IX->IX->IX is already approved?
00:30:10      but yeah I'm not sure how their algo works for selection
00:30:25      lets assume they are random selecting
00:30:37      so 2/3rd control of MN and its dead
00:30:44      someone was already able to hack into the MN network and take MN payments, but was fixed
00:30:54      but even 1/3rd control will lead to exposure
00:31:06      yeah
00:31:13      but these are expensive to obtain so probably this wont happen for a while
00:31:15      someone was already able to hack into the MN network and take MN payments, but was fixed
00:31:37      the bigger question is what will happen if the network itself naturally hits a 4 block reorg?
00:32:06      without any attacks, just normal blockchain instability
00:33:05      if they are recommending to exchanges that after 1 minute it is spendable then all the IX is now BTC and then gone, but the network rewinds so whoever traded for BTC is now missing the DRK...
00:33:35      so only the MN are making new DRK blocks?
00:33:49      that means all the wallets are just passive watching
00:33:56      github.com/darkcoin/darkcoin/blob/master/src/instantx.cpp
00:35:51      What is normal darkcoin blocktime? IX takes 1.25 minutes
00:36:14      What is normal darkcoin blocktime? IX takes 1.25 minutes
00:37:17      ah, 2.5 minutes
00:37:43      so they lock the inputs to prevent double spending them
00:37:54      which is not bad, but what about the outputs?
00:38:16      they appear to be valid after the instantTX? if so they can be immediately spent
00:39:02      so the big question is can these instant outputs be immediately spent.
00:39:17      DRK is becoming less and less decentralized...
00:39:35      Immediately after the 15 MN I guess
00:40:30      so one little fork and a bunch of people are losing money?
00:41:10      What is a 'top' masternode?
00:41:17      //txlock - Locks transaction
//
//step 1.) Broadcast intention to lock transaction inputs, "txlreg", CTransaction
//step 2.) Top 10 masternodes, open connect to top 1 masternode. Send "txvote", CTransaction, Signature, Approve
//step 3.) Top 1 masternode, waits for 10 messages. Upon success, sends "txlock'
00:41:41      i imagine one masternode is more equal than the others
00:41:47      and coordinates the voting nodes
00:42:05      what if the top1 mn is an attacker
00:42:07      so actually if you control that one, you wont need 2/3's
00:42:52      Surely they aren't depending a tx approval on 1 mn...
00:42:59      I just get a bad feeling about this. It could well be just fine, but has it been reviewed by the top bitcoin guys?
00:43:21      step 3)... sends "txlock"
00:43:46      so one node can decide to lock the inputs and i think that makes the tx valid for all the nodes.
00:43:53      this is like ripple
00:44:08      yeah it seems so
00:44:22      i wonder if they will also just arbitarily revoke specific tx like ripple does
00:44:22      I suppose the top1 is randomly picked?
00:44:52      well it is a very courageous thing DRK is doing
00:48:05      Do we know how many masternodes there are?
00:50:59      420 btc support wall on bfx at 12
00:52:02      wow
00:52:08      my math must be wrong. or is it?
00:52:21      i wonder how it handles cases like: bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=46370.msg552390#msg552390
00:52:32      35000 drk
00:54:11      btcddev: here is a list of all the masternode as well as their IP's and ports :open_mouth: drk.mn/masternodes.html
00:56:48      Thanks, currently 1921
00:58:17      1921, that's a good number
00:58:53      so if it is random selected not compromised, etc. the only problem is the blockchain reorgs that are going to happen
01:13:25      i wonder how it handles cases like: bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=46370.msg552390#msg552390
02:18:55      need btcd < 0.005 for a few more days pls everyone
02:19:18      i still have to buy 400
02:23:36      getting $1k dollars worth or so?
02:26:25      i wish BTC was still worth that much
02:27:06      I don't xD
02:48:06      I wonder how the dumpers feel who just sold for .003
02:48:52      either sad or fascinated by the next shiny object
02:49:01      or distracted by a squirrel
02:50:38      Smiley
04:36:42      i wonder how that guy feels with his wall at 400k
04:36:56      i don't think he was able to buy the entire amount back lower
05:13:17      i still have to buy 400

01:27:10      in sprnt.slack
02:32:43      It's been a long time since I've seen the bitcoindark website and I have to say that it is very well done.
02:38:04      talking of which
06:59:26      480k on trex, nice
06:59:33      sellside
07:07:05      anyone rival trex for BTCD volume?
07:21:55      unfortunately no. I heard that cryptsy had good volume in beginning but you're taking a risk trading there and the constant month long "wallet maintenance". Bittrex is where to trade until supernet is released.
07:43:57      never had a problem with trex, will stay there thx
09:22:57      don't use Cryptsy
12:46:56      offering 47 SuperNETx2 for 225 BTCD
12:51:13      @channel is there a bot or api somewhere I can use to grab the latest btcd channel posts?
12:51:31      @futurist: I can do that
12:54:25      I'm thinking we can set up a BTCtalk account, and periodically post the latest slack postings in the BTCD ann thread

12:57:37      ty
12:58:56      ok lets do it

23:42:56
23:43:06      glad I bought quite a few ~.004
23:43:18      yea those were the days huh.
23:43:35      i got spoiled, was turning up my nose at anything more than 36
23:43:40      lol
23:43:47      feels sorta stupid now
23:43:53      yeah, I understand
23:44:02      I miss the days of .00015
23:44:12      I'm afraid they're gone forever
23:44:21      knock wood : -)
23:44:56      hard to understand how u are not sitting on about a gazillion of them!
23:45:03
23:45:07      I was broke
23:45:12      I premined some
23:45:21      shhhhh dirty word!
23:45:24      but didn't have much money to invest
23:45:28      fudders are listening!!
23:45:38      It's public knowledge of course Smiley\
23:45:39
23:45:52      that never stopped a real fudder
23:46:07      truth is a speed bump only
23:46:14      Then I'm afraid Mr. Nakamoto will have to give back his btc's he mined lol
23:46:23      yea.
23:46:30      maybe he is at 219 a pop.
23:46:35      yeah
23:47:28      Anyway, I'm happy with what I have
23:48:07      Does anyone know what's behind DRK's rise?
23:48:17      seems to be the big mystery
23:48:22      but i am happy
23:48:38      hoping it will approach my bagholding level!
23:49:04      At what price did you buy? If you don't mind me asking
23:49:29      i was in and out a bunch of times but fell asleep at the wheel the last round
23:49:40      so if it gets to 15 - 16 i am out and happy.
23:49:52      cool
23:50:05      I bought a little at .008, then sold at .0085 lol
23:50:14      ballsy man
23:50:17      : -)
23:50:50      i am trying to get out of almost everything except sn stuff
23:51:01      just too exhausting trying to keep up.
23:51:41      me too
23:51:50      uno has been nice and predictable the last months. between 8 and 12 the whole time. but everything else is crap shoot
23:52:40      plus the general level of idiocy continues unabated. nakamoto dark, a tribute to the genius, etc.
23:54:41      lol
23:54:45      this bear market is tough
23:56:35      sure is
23:56:37      do we need Putin to wrestle it down?
23:56:54      a dark winter for the soul.
23:57:18      lol vlad seems to have his hands full these days.
23:57:40      did u see that DOD report that concludes he has asbergers.

The latest shift for the Xpool Multipool paid out over 12+ DRK, 36+ BTCD, 34+ FIBRE & 0.003+ BTC.

We have the new multipool now running full steam so now all my pool's hash rates are combined and already showing great results and payments are flowing. This should increase and stabilize the profitability

DRK Miners that use X11, get paid DRK above and beyond what I mention here. This is because when we find a DRK block, you instantly get allocated your DRK share and it gets paid within a few hours of a block maturing. You don't need to wait for any exchanging so you'll get more frequent DRK payments as more DRK blocks are found.

Anyone can add an additional payout addresses to get your mined coins sent to you direct, instead of exchanged. You can also choose to split your earnings between any of our payout currencies!

Any problems, please PM as I may miss your post.

Cheers!

BTCD Slack logs have now been placed on the website at http://bitcoindark.pw/slack-logs/ these will be updated on a daily basis

Awesome! Thanks so much figroll Smiley

In the meantime i think the above is a very good idea: folks in the slack channel should be pasting interesting bits here. This will help with the information flow and give a more realistic activity level in this thread.

Every couple days Me or Torrn will be posting the latest logs from the btcd slack channel.

Any other relevant or important information we will post as well.

Equally grand!  I think this will help bridge the gap
