Any news on the hack? It really seems like an inside job since its a COLD wallet, unless someone screwed up the concept of a cold wallet.

Has anyone had their lost BTC returned yet? Or is it still the BTC-B they're dishing out?

I got part of my BTC balance (the btc that was on orders). the rest is on btc_b

IMO the best we can hope for is they will continue regularly paying back a small percentage of bitcoins and deducting it from our btc_b balances. That was the model Poloniex used after being hacked. Eventually everyone was fully refunded, but it took a long time.

I've wanted to stay away from the drama here, as we've had this multiple times just with different exchanges/services. We can partly blame Bter here. They've left quite a good portion of coins vulnerable, but there is only so much that they can do about the security. Over time we should see this improve, until it reaches a plateau.
On the other hand people should have known better! We've had multiple exchanges and services being hacked. So why keep your Bitcoin on un-secure websites? You don't own the coins held on an address to which you do not own the private keys.

Has anyone tried tracing the coins?

The coins were sent through a mixer so they are impossible to trace now. Some people tried but gave up once they went through the mixer. Bter even offered a reward to anyone who could trace where they went.

offering a reward won't bring the coins back at this stage. as you say they had plenty of time to mix the coins.

Less they try to pay users fund. İs there anyone here who got payment from mtgox, bitstamp or another service which hacked?

You are right, no one has received payment from bitstamp or mt.gox but bitstamp.net has offered 0% fee ...

Anyone knows if theres an ongoing investigation ?

I don't think they are under investigation by the chinese police, they will never go in the jail (trust me) like karpeless.

We just can't expect what will happen on this exchange. I personally even couldn't expect they could reopen the exchange for trading after the serious hack.

I just know that trading is risky there now. Am just moving money elsewhere.

I sent some Mastercoins to BTER a week ago and still didn't get balance..
Getting some lame excuses from them..
Nothing changed, their amateur service is still the same, and it's not going to be better since they have no funds to pay for it.

News about bter, I want to know what is really happened that day. If they will not reply to my numerous email I will find the "reply" only with my knowledge.
Bter shame on you.

Changing avatars is currently not possible.
The trades are almost frozen now, trading activity is next to nothing (though withdrawals and deposits are working like a charm). I'm gradually moving my coins elsewhere, right now it is sheer waste of time and opportunity to sit at bter.

I would not hold coins there either. Just too risky after what happend. And there is no upside, as most markets exist on other exchanges too.

BTER's SSL cert has expired..  very professional.  Roll Eyes

Saw that too. Had to chuckle. How does this even happen?

I'm just speculating but they could have bought it from a non-authorized vendor for a fraction of what it's normally sold. Those vendors don't stay around for too long.

It's just an expired SSL cert every certificate has an expiration date (not a good thing, but might happen sometimes when you are lazy or don't care about security like in BTERs case)..

"a non-authorized vendor" is not a problem, you will still get the error msg, your browser/windows has a list of verified ssl vendors and if the sites ssl is not from one of them then you will get that message.

Why woudln't a big company like BTER buy a authorized SSL cert?
