.01*(200-100)*(100/200) = 0.5 (50%)

You did that correct. The house edge at 2x is indeed 0.5%  (see: bustabit.com/faq#odds for a nice chart)

Quote
Factoring in the 1% chance of busting at 0 should give the bettor a total expected return of 0.49 (49%), no? Am I doing this math wrong?

The chance of busing at 0x, is actually 1 in 101 -- but it doesn't impact the house edge at all. (Because in the other 100 out of 101 games, the site gives out 1%). Making the whole bonus/instabust scheme 0 EV

Ah gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

Can someone tell me what the roomAmount variable stands for in this house edge calculation?

1 % * (intendedCashOut - roomAmount) * (roomAmount / intendedCashOut)

It means how much you bet. The name is a vestigial leftover from the time you joined a room to bet a certain amount of money. (But now there's only 1 "room" and you can bet how much you like)

Right, so using that formula though, I"m getting different odds than what your calculator is spitting out. That should give you even 50/50 odds of doubling your money, right?

1 % * (intendedCashOut - roomAmount) * (roomAmount / intendedCashOut)

It is worth noting that intendedCashOut is an absolute value–not the multiplier–and that the formula will return an absolute value.

If you only want to know the relative house edge for a certain multiplier, you can use the simplified function 0.01 - 0.01/m, where m is the multiplier.

Hey Ryan, a while back you explored the idea of creating "shares" for BustaBit - do you have any intentions of ever re-visiting that idea?

3223303 is the (somewhat incorrect) number of games in total. Only roughly one in a thousand games are Nyan games, though.

Wow, we've finally hit  500k bitcoin wagered!!

As a fun prize, first person who can tell me how many nyan games there has been, since we've been provably fair will get 0.1 btc. (Please don't guess, show exactly how you figured it out)

The answer is exactly: 2213 nyans!
I got all the gamehashes using "node gamecrashes 4ab7c5905cf87f80211de3c48cc09b4a82652e4e96f8b5bd6da7489cdc3392c5 > all.txt" with a recent hash. Then i opened the file and counted the number os instances over 1000 (using regex). It is 2213.

If the multiplier reaches 1000.00x, a Nyan cat is shown. That is where the name comes from. Smiley
