I just got it again Sir. Like 30 minutes ago before this posts. I just keep on reading and going from thread to thread then suddenly it popped out. It says I am too fast (The Flash)  Grin or maybe we are having a website error.
Just want to let you know.  Wink

A few minutes back, I was getting this error even though I wasn't active, I started getting it each time I tried to refresh or visit a page. It is not exactly the same as the one posted in the original post but here

Code:
Too fast / overloaded (503)

Most likely, you are accessing the forum too quickly. You are only allowed to access at a rate of one
pageload per second on average (somewhat higher bursts).

It is also possible that the server is overloaded or temporarily down.

503 via gate105

Edit: I got the error posted in the OP afterwards, It took like one hour until I was able to access the forums while the one I posted above was appearing sometimes but not always.

I just changed something, maybe that'll help.

If people still get it, please post:

- Exactly the time you saw it.
- The footer of the error message (eg. "504 via master1")

I am getting this error an increasingly large portion of the time now - some times the forum is completely unusable. I am curious as to why this is because the forum software is very basic and can be extremely easily scaled horizontally since it is just PHP and MySQL back end. Is there a place we can check the service status or a feed of current things going on with the forum? Although chat groups seem to be taking over for most of the buzz in the crypto world these days..

This error seems especially bad as of late. Normally I would get it every once in awhile, meaning maybe 1-2 times a month, but this week has been almost constant.

Just going from page to page in a thread now involves suffering through at least one error message, waiting a few seconds and refreshing the page. Trying to post is also quite impossible at times.

I actually came here to see if it was being talked about or if not, maybe something is going on with my Internet connection or computer. Didn't really see the mass of user complaints I would expect, so I might check out my end anyway.

I experienced this today and I don't know what to do, I just wait like an hour but it gone now, I thought I have internet connection problem and I did troubleshoot it so many times. I hope it gone forever, hehehe.
I always experience this if I log in and usually for 2hrs and off this, after that I open again and the gateway or status 504 show to me? What is the problem for my connection?
This has nothing to do with your internet connection. It's the forum getting too much traffic and getting overload.

I'm getting this error almost every day, and yesterday particularly, I couldn't access the forum for 2 hours straight. It's probably caused by the amount of traffic the forum is getting because of the Bitcoin's recent high.

I received this error message a couple of times yesterday too. I chose to ignore it, because the message said it was normal for this error to occur every once in a while.

Certainly, forum takes a lot of time to load heavy threads these days.Although I get a different error while accessing stuff once the forum is loaded but I do get what OP said while establishing a connection to the forum.

I have noticed that I frequently get this error message when trying to perform some resource-heavy task, such as access my PMs (including after I send a PM) or view someone's trust profile who has sent and/or received many trust ratings. I very rarely get this error message when I am attempting to do not-resource-heavy tasks such as view a thread with 2 posts, post/edit a post that is not excessively large, view a list of threads with unread posts on my watchlist (although this is sometimes somewhat slow).

I don't think that this error is the result of a DDoS, but that is going off nothing but a hunch. I think that the forum is just struggling to keep up with an increased amount of traffic as of late.

I also experienced though I am not sure if its been a week but I'm sure these past few days I came to encounter this often though I chose not to report it since the first sentence stated: The server seems to be overloaded right now. Might be because of increased users posting here and there.

Additionally, with the one I quoted.

Another question about this error is it not possible to protect the forum by using CloudFlare or some services to hide the real ip behind bitcointalk.org afaik it will be much harder to launch such attacks right?
DDoS protection already exists on the forum, but not Cloudflare. You can read theymos' opinions about Cloudflare here.

I got this error myself a few times but only today, for the past few weeks no issues so far (maybe 1 time a day) but that's all so far.

I keep getting this error for the past week or two now. I don't know If it's a DDOS again:

Code:
Busy, try again (504)

The server seems to be overloaded right now. Please try again in a little while.

If you are getting this error while trying to post something, press the reload/refresh button in your browser and accept the browser warning.
Keep doing this until you get a non-error page, at which point your post will be made. Leave at least a few seconds between each attempt.

It is normal for this error to occur every once in a while. There is generally no need to report it.
However, if you get this error so often that it becomes especially disruptive, post to the Meta section of the forum about it.

As I said, I'm getting this often so I'm reporting it as mentioned on the error message.
