It's still too early to say. We're still on the last day of 2017 and so far its making a slow increase as I feel like its still not recovering from the correction it experienced during the holidays. $40,000 is a lot and I am sure everybody would be happy to reach that rate. It doesn't seem impossible but for now, it is still to early to predict.

Bitcoin could be at $40,000 at the end of 2018. It easily could," Michael Novogratz says on CNBC's "Fast Money
Ethereum, which I think just touched $500 or is getting close, could be triple where it is as well," adds Novogratz, formerly a macro hedge fund manager at Fortress Investment Group.
Michael are forgetting about the fact if the price of bitcoin will increase in the future and then the fees could increase too. How these scenarios are making a lot of people are feeling tired about that. We need real segwit 2x and not fake 2x with unknown developer that already keep 6 million coin for them.

in my opinion bitcoin has not reached 40k $ because bitcoin has reached a very high price once it still takes long enough to reach 40k $

well, we do not know for sure, but, bitcoin really does have that potential. bitcoin has the potential to have a very high price, even to reach a price of $ 40k. but, it all depends on the conditions that occur. if bitcoin actually develops in 2018, of course it can happen.

Bitcoin has the potential to reach such a price within this year. But it would be better for bitcoin to reach such a high price slowly instead of reaching suddenly and crashing immediately.Due to high media focus and entry of financial companies like CME,CBOE,bitcoin has become the talk of most people all over the world. So,definitely there would be a huge increase in demand for bitcoins leading it to ATH.

Had you told me that Bitcoin would reach close to USD 20,000,- by the end of 2017 I wouldn't have believed you. Now, even with the recent decline in price, reaching USD 40,000,- by the end of 2018 seems to be well within reach to me. Apart from the obvious fundamental question whether we'll see a successful LN deployment in 2018, a lot will likely hinge on the next few weeks of market action. I personally am fairly confident that USD 10,000,- will hold. If it doesn't, the downward trend is likely to continue and will probably be tough to reverse.

Instead, we may see BTC back to sub $10k level after recent news regarding ani-anonymity trend.
South Korea announced it will battle anonymity of bitcoin traders and many wallet owners have been preparing themselves to sell their coins.

The anti-anonymity trend has been a reality of western exchanges for years now. I doubt it will have much of a market impact, especially since most of the new investors -- based on anecdotal observations -- don't care much about the privacy aspect of cryptocurrencies at all.

I think we already know since 2018 is ending in 24 hours (for me) and much earlier than this for people in Australia. I'm pretty sure though that we'll see a rally in 2018 with the price at least touching the previous ATH. I believe it's a matter of time before we go to $40k. Bitcoin is only gaining speed for another rally right now. We've all seen it before.

When i started seeing all the early prediction about bitcoin going to ten thousand i was skeptical because i never thought that it is possible in years but this year everything changed upside down and the price started rising like a big bubble and the price still hover above those values and everything is possible ,another big rally could take the price to those valuations.

Considering there recent bearish trend and fear of investors that Bitcoin 'bubble' is going to burst soon - I highly doubt that we will see anything like $40k in 2018.

From my experience in bitcoin from last two years I think that the price of bitcoin will reach to $40000 at the end of 2018 but it may not sure that this price will reach it may be possible or not possible it depend on the market value of the bitcoin. If we see bitcoin since from last few month the demand of bitcoin was increase very much and the market value of bitcoin were increase very fast rate so there are many chance of bitcoin to gain the price of $40000 at the end of 2018

We cannot really say for sure, but that should be expected as well and every other option should really be expected too anyway. Bitcoin has really had some major push this year and I would not be surprised at the rate at which it had gone, then having the same thing happen next year would mean a huge increase in value, but that would be too much of something to expect.

Well coming from a professional and experienced personality, I agree that bitcoin will reach that amount of price. Same as in etherium which has lot of potential to reach the 500 dollar mark. If 2017 is a big break for all cryptocurrency, specially the most widely used coins like bitcoin and etherium, and that they have already introduced to some of the big investors, what more in 2018?

Asking if bitcoin can reach a certain amount is very different from asking if it will. Of course, it's very hard for anyone to predict where bitcoin will be in a year, but claiming that it has the ability to reach such heights has a simple answer: yes. Bitcoin can easily reach 40,000 just based on the amount of growth it went through 2017. If it will is harder. I think it has a strong chance to if companies form a lot of support for the coin and blockchain technology. Otherwise, it's possible that next year could be bitcoin's final prominent year.

I can't predict about that. According to me the price is so high but hopefully it will be but it take too much time to hit 40k$.

Yes of course, but it will take a lot of time in order to reach that, and i think that it will be on the third quarter of 2018, not at the end.

Maybe if we are lucky we are going to see those numbers before the end of that year.
