Without private key its not possible to open the wallet in other phone or laptop even if you have password, the only way is if phone recovered and it was not reset to factory settings, it is always recommended to write private key on paper or store it a h/w wallet or somewhere you can access it anytime, good luck.
It is impossible to recover your bitcoin without privet key because it is more than a safe zone and you must recover that phone to recover your coin.

Can't, your friend must be willing to lose the bitcoin he has forever. The private key is the most important and keep it in the safest place.
Sorry to say, but you've lost your Bitcoin. Be careful the next time. Only possibility of getting back your bitcoin is for someone to found your private key which is very important and nothing else.
I'm afraid the only way to recover Bitcoins from and address is by the private key itself. If the password you're referring to is of an exchange app, I suggest contacting the app/company about it so that they can give you the private key or the Bitcoins.
