in Indonesia when calling GPU they call VGA.
confirmed, yes we (Indonesian Miners) call it VGA

I am a member of Indonesia

I find it nothing wrong with saying VGA-cards about GPUS. even a google about VGA-cards leads to links to GPUs.

What is VGA?
it means a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)

You again. Technically, you are wrong again. VGA stands for Video Graphics Array. That being said, many people incorrectly refer to "VGA cards" when they actually mean GPUs.
first, he (@Doni saputra) is Indonesian and I understand their language. in Indonesia when calling GPU they call VGA.

jump to this section, almost all Indonesia member when calling GPU it means VGA.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=194.0

if you do not understand their language, please use google translate or you can PM me. do not hesitate I am ready to be a mentor for Indonesian and for free.

OP does not ask what VGA stands for

let's compare

if you define VGA as a Video Graphic Array, it focuses more on the video output socket (use google and type "video graphics array" then click the image tab and see what you see)

and now you can try typing GPU on google then click the image tab and see what it means

and I say:
You again. Technically substantially, you are wrong again

Going back to the topic at hand

yeah...
I don't have high quality Laptop. I have one HP notebook, can I mine by using this notebook?
That's not a big deal, I think you can still do well with that laptop
I disagree.
from what side is it not a big deal?

-from the hashrate?
the hashrate generated from a laptop is very small to mine any altcoin let alone have to compete with GPU miners.

obviously, this's a big deal

- from durability?
laptops are not designed to run 24/7 and have a small fan that isn't possible to reduce the heat generated from mining. eg Now compare with Rig (GPUs)

obviously, this is a big deal

Going back to the topic at hand, i would just like to chime in and add to the consensus that using laptops to time is an extremely bad idea. Like many have already said, you will burn your laptop's components before you turn a single dollar in profit.

It is possible to mine with a laptop, but the odds of it being profitable are low. There are a few threads about CPU mined coins you can check out.

my advice if you want to mine using a laptop is not possible. your laptop will not have a long life. mining with laptop will only damage your laptop. my advice you can use VGA only.

Obviously possible to mine Ethereum but my suggestion don't do that because your laptop is basic version so you cannot maintain continuously and anytime your laptop will be burst in future.
If you have money you should buy GPU mining rig then continue on forever but Laptop is more risky platform.

General consensus rule is to never mine with the laptop because they heat very fast and you risk to burn it down in no time. However I would give a go (haven't had the chance to try it myself) with the Asus series Ice Cool, laptops which run several hours , have long battery life, and never heat just to see the results.

I wonder what is the result to mine with those. Anyway based on the usd you will make from even a core i7 it is not worth as you will only make pennies.

When it was still profitable, I used Nicehash to mine on my laptop and was making about $1+ a day but it broke after 3 weeks of continuous mining.
If you try the same thing now, you will be making about 10 cents a day and can still break in a shorter period depending on the condition.
Will I ever try it again? NO. Not worth the time and energy.
Now I have a farm making me some decent change but the laptop prompted my eagerness to learn more.
Best wishes in your learning experience.

Yes you can if your laptop has high quality GPU (I think high or low is relative between peoples) like 1050ti for NVIDIA and the GPU must have at least 4GB VRAM. But, if your laptop didn't have it you only can mine crypto with Cryptonight algorithm then you mine with your CPU. Of course I do not recommend you to mine with your laptop. Buy asic or build GPU rig mining.

I don't think that's a good idea. You will have a very low profit but your laptop will work at the limit of its capabilities and very quickly fail. You will not have time to earn even for its repair. For comparison, I can say that you can dig the trench manually with a shovel and can tractors to dig for one day a pit.

for what purpose?
If you aiming for Profitability, then forget it
but if you are going to do this for just for fun or a hobby, then yes, you can mine with its CPU and mostly Cryptonote algos
however, you might lessen your lappies lifespan as it does not design for mining 24x7
so if its just for a limited time mining, go ahead and try

You remind me to this.  Years ago, I know that we can mine bitcoin with laptop using Bitcoin Core.  So about 6 weeks ago I download and sync the latest Bitcoin Core.  I know mining with laptop is not profitable, especially for Btc.  I am just curious, just want to know how it works.  So, about 3 days ago it's 100% synced and I try to google how to mine with Core only to find that the mining function already removed long time ago.  I forget what version.  Almost 6 weeks. 20 hours a day to sync and still can not experience that mining process.  LOL

Don't mine with a laptop, ANY laptop, even the biggest Alienware or MSI gaming series will produce nothing and we are talking about several thousand dollar machines!.

specially with HP!, HPs are poorly designed machines!, you'll endup killing it in no time.

Notebooks are designed for low power, mining requires insane amount of processing power and  that requires.... well.... POWER so no, build a rig specifically for mining, BIG ASS PSU, POWERFUL GPUs, if you don't have much money start small like I did, i started mining with two used AMD 5830, then sell them and buy two 7850, then 7950 eventually endup with a big farm that produces more than my work does hehe Grin Grin
but takes time and effort and money , LOTS of money.

you'll get there eventually, invest small but constant, read, investigate, and start small, but with the proper stuff, notebooks are not designed for that.
cheers
indkt.
