I suggest that if theymos were to add this feature again, it would be better if he'll make it a paid service instead of offering it for free to everyone, or perhaps only allow it for high-ranking members. Smiley

There's the Copper Membership. Throw that in and I'll likely get it :p

I do not think you can create animated signature but you can create animated avatar. Animated avatars are annoying and the more you see more people using it the more annoying the avatars become. Animated signature will be worst.
At one time animated avatars supported forum accounts.  And those who put up animated avatars back then still have them on their profiles. And it supports. But the new animated avatar can no longer be added to the profile. Because now it is closed so no user can use animated signature or avatar in his profile even if he tries hard. they are not yet possible it now

I will have a hard time reading a topic or a post created by a member wearing an animated avatar, the animated avatar and signature were taken down so members can concentrate on what matters the most and that is concentrating on the topic to give a good response, with animated avatar and signatures it will distract me from understanding the post, especially if the posts happen to be created by someone who is struggling in his English or to get the message across.

I'm ok with the present set up of this forum, animated signatures and avatars are good for advertising-based platforms and not for discussion platforms.
To be honest, I disagree with your point here as I don't find animated avatars to be distracting when reading a user's post that have it on. I could read hundreds of user's posts with animated avatars without being distracted; I just find it cool so far. If the feature is still available, I would like to try it.

I'm against any type of animated signature, but I'm okay with an animated avatar. I suggest that if theymos were to add this feature again, it would be better if he'll make it a paid service instead of offering it for free to everyone, or perhaps only allow it for high-ranking members. Smiley

I think, I would be in favor of including animated avatars again, but if there was some rules or limitations to the length and the quantity of frames allowed for us to use.

Since most people around here seem not to like the idea of animated signatures, then I must say it does not sound like a good feature to implement, we are not supposed to annoy anyone to the point they would start to unwatch or filter the signatures.

They are good as they are, not too intrusive and yet some can be quite attractive to the eye.  Smiley

Is it possible?

Edit:

You can make it a little longer and tell us why you want to know that.

Hero-Legendary rank member signatures tend to be same as far as most as most sign campaigns go. If animated signatures were to be possible, it should be available for legendary members to make the distinction between the two ranks. I'm interested in creativity signature creators will bring in as well.

I believe animated ads have a bright future, but the forum should take into account the eyesight of many, as some people are bothered by animated images unless they are wearing eyeglasses, and some people work on their laptops for extended periods of time without wearing eyeglasses. Another issue I see with these animated signatures is that each manager will want to customize the opacity, contrast, and brightness the way they see fit,  and it can become a challenge for other signatures when there is a company that has more exposure than their own except if the forum is ready to lay down a rule for the general design of animated signature for the forum.

Not in recent years, use Adblock Smiley I used to not mind the advertising, until more and more websites went overboard and became unbearable.
Also great in Firefox: about:config > image.animation_mode > once.
This is enough not to be annoyed any more. But it seems like theymos agreed with everyone and took a step. Sometimes I get frustrated when I see people reporting helpful something or asking for something useful, and forum admins/moderators show the thickness of their skin. They did not respond to many threads like that one. But, It feels good to see that theymos responded within 11 hours and fixed it.

Nice catch. Anyone else out there that I'm forgetting?

Both of them have been wearing Sportsbet.io Old Avatar for ages now. Maybe we will find more active members if we search for them. I just found them from the Sportsbet thread.

Have you ever visited some website with lots of banner ads?

I know Theymos disabled animated images for avatars. But, what was the reason behind that? Just because people find it annoying or maybe there were some other issues as well?
Some advertising went crazy with blinking avatars.

Animated avatars aren't supposed to be allowed, but I never got around to adding detection for the APNG ones. I'll look into it.
OK, APNGs are now detected. Old ones are grandfathered for now

Maybe lightlord? But, he is not active since September 2022. I guess there are a few more, including Jayce and Ibminer. I will update you if I can remember any of them. I know Theymos disabled animated images for avatars. But what was the reason behind that? Just because people find it annoying, or maybe there were some other issues too?

Have you ever visited a website with lots of banner ads? You can only see some content around those ads, and most of the webpage is filled with them.
Like some URL shorter websites? Or movie hosting websites? Yeah, Sometimes I download movies and other software, and sometimes I don't know which one is the actual download button because of the ads.

Animated signatures will be like unskippable ad. It's gonna be so much annoying. Have you ever visited some website with lots of banner ads? You can only see some content around those ads, and most of the webpage is filled with them. I don't wanna be a part of that. Instead of making it animated, why not just select some dedicated colors only available for legendary members? Red, green, blue.....something like that. And signature should be made using those colors only dedicated to legendary members. Design could be the same, but color code could make them unique. Just a thought tho!

So far, it seems that I can only see in the avatar that someone is using animated here, and one of them who is active is @yahoo62278 and apart from him, I don't notice any other members here in the forum wearing that.

But with the signature banner code, I don't seem to notice that anyone has done it here in the forum, has anyone? but if there is,
for sure the fees for this will increase of course.

I think every rank has some limited numbers of codes it can contain for signature usage. Using animated signature could be very interesting which I have seen before but can be misleading and I don't know if the forum would have a choice for that in the future now that we are in the era of artificial intelligence. Using animated signature would be nice if allowed in the forum and could take large numbers of codes to be designed. This could be possible with people above senior member rank because they have higher number of codes there signature space can contain.

I've never seen animated signatures.

Animated avatars were also disabled, except for the guys who had them before the new resolution was put in place. I think Yahoo, Ibminer, Vod and some other few members still have animated avatars
Those aren't annoying at all, and it's really too bad that's not possible anymore. The heavily animated advertising had to spoil it for the rest.

Nah!!! You forgot about ibminer.

I have caught Stewie several times moving his eyes, so that should count as an animated avatar. Grin
Nice catch. Anyone else out there that I'm forgetting?
jayce also has an animated avatar but its hard to notice(or at least for me) if you are not directly looking at his avatar. anyway, yours is the only one that is a very noticeable animated avatar.

You have an eagle eye! Yeah I made it a bit less animated as some users complained about some annoying avatars. I created the yahoo's avatar as well and I'm amazed that he is still using it. It ain't cheap indeed to ask him replace the avatar lol.

The day Bitcointalk allows animated signatures, is the day I'm going to enable "Don't show users' signatures".

There was a time when bitcointalk had the option to display the animated signatures but thanks to theymos who abandon that feature.
It was so annoying seeing those animations while reading the text.
did they ever allow that? As far as I know, avatars and ad banners were the only ones that used to have animated features.

Perhaps what he means is ad banners.

Moreover, one might ask what the real added value of animated signatures would be? I'm not sure if it's necessary to overload the forum pages with useless info/designs, as the hero/legendary distinction is already made through the forum users's profiles and is clearly visible in every message posted.

Maybe from the company's point of view, animated signatures may add value and may look prominent but from the forum point of view, it is not a good idea. You may still see a few members wearing the old animated signatures.  Also, the admin has disabled the signatures which I think is in the best interest of the forum.

The forum was created mainly for discussion, not for advertising purposes

I think I might be the last "active" man standing as far as animated avatars go. Haven't seen another animated avatar in a long while. I would sell my avatar space btw, but it wouldn't come cheap.

I think I have seen a couple of more members with animated avatars, though they don't post in this common boards. Like Metroid who posted mostly in the altcoin boards. He hasn't posted for a while, but he still logs in.

If you are curious, this one is for you.
Avatar space is not negotiable as I lose my animated avatar if I remove it.
