Any updates? Are you still going for the A1? Might be interested in buying 50 chips

Further progress has been made by The WPC on the A1 Wasp test board...

It's ALIVE!

A note from the WPC EE:

Quote
I am blinking the lights!

So:

1. 3.3V regulator working
2. JTAG interface to UC3C working
3. Processor is initializing
4. ASF now working (took moving to Studio 6.2, since all UC3C was broken in 6.1)
5. 12MHz oscillator is working
6. Can do one LED - all 3 colors are working

Yay! (Finally!)

We're getting closer to the Wasp A1 rollout!

The initial bring up 2 Chip Wasp A1 in hand... pick and place and re-flow ongoing.

Small Update:

Considering changing the chip from the Coindesk A1 to the upcoming ASICMiner chip. There are issues with the A1 that will make it difficult to reach the full 40GH/s turbo performance.

I have put together two spreadsheets to provide you with information. The first one is so that everyone can keep track of what the tally is for reservations and commitments in this GCB. The second is an estimated cost sheet for the various Tiers at a given hash rate. The second sheet is based on the estimated costs of The Wasp and Hive Project Wasps using the CoinCraft A1 ASIC. I think that I have made the information fairly comprehensive. If you find an error, please let me know so that I can correct it.

CoinCraft A1 GCB Reserve Placement Spreadsheet

In order to bootstrap the SWMC Hashing Exchange, I am considering offering 120 Contracts for 1 fully populated CoinCraft A1 Wasp @$10 each contract. The Contracts will be exclusively for the SWMC Hashing Exchange. A single Wasp hash rate will be 120 GH/s (on Low Power), 150 GH/s (in Nominal Power) and 240 GH/s (with Turbo Power) with a ± 20% variance per chip. Each contract will be for 1.85 GH/s since not all chips will operate at top performance, That makes the Maximum price $5.56 per GH/s. The range for the estimated cost of a whole Wasp is estimated between $1200-950 per Wasp. For the contracts on the Wasps themselves, if the final price turns out to be less than $1200, then anyone who purchased a Contract will have the GH/s increased accordingly. The owner will be able to keep or sell their GH/s on the Hashing Exchange and there will be no hosting fee. There will be a small trading fee if you trade your hashes and a fee to cover the costs of operation (i.e. Electricity, Maintanace, etc...) Here is the link to the Estimated Costs for the Wasps. The prices vary because of a volume discount on the purchase of the CoinCraft A1 Chips.

I'm certainly interested in this, but I have a number of questions.

1) Do we have any kind of ETA when the Wasp board designs might be ready for these? I checked the Wasp and Hive threads, and to a non-EE like me, it's clear as mud.

The last bit of information that I got was that The WPC has A1 sample chips in the hands of an EE and that he is working on getting the prototype Wasp functional. This is the final step to having the board design finished (at least for the A1s).  Once we have a working Wasp and the licensing is worked out, we will likely be ready to start fabing the Wasp PCB. As for how long this will take, it's hard to say for sure, but it shouldn't be too much longer (days or weeks, but not months.)

2) How many chips would be required per Wasp board?

With the A1s there will be 6 chips per Wasp.

3) Are there any other current board designs that would use these?

We have a prototype Wasp for the A1 in the works as we speak. The only other board design that I know of is the recent release of a Bitmine 2-Chip Evaluation Board Reference Design.

4) More to the point, is anyone doing dev project to actually fabricate the boards?

Answered.

5) What would be the initial time estimate for these to start hashing?

Depends on when we can get: 1. The chips. 2. The A1 Wasp board design. But I can do a small production run for a few boards a day (including PCB fabrication), then with assembly and testing one or two days for a small batch (maybe 15 -50 Wasps a day to start, then a rapid increase in that number as we iron out the process and get the production running smoothly.)

6) What plans, if any, do you have in place for delays like those that hit the Avalon chip group buys and Klondike/BitBurner board development problems?

It depends on whether the chips have been paid for yet or not.  If they have not been paid for, we can discuss purchasing a different chip or processing refunds.  If they have been paid for, we'll have no choice but to wait, demand a refund from Bitmine or join the lemurs as they go over the edge.  Grin

As far as board development problems, we won't consider ordering the chips until The WPC has a working prototype and The WPC has made a final decision on its licensing for the Wasps.

I think 100 users 100 chips each are 10000.
4 Ths per user only 7000$
Im interested 200 chips. But I need exactly delivery date.

Here is a spreadsheet I've been working on to keep track of all the information: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AvMjxnIDQFujdEJKUS1rRmZrTW95YnZfcklXR1BhcGc&single=true&gid=1&output=html

Let me know what you like about it, what you don't like and anything you would like me to add.

 Thanks!

Is there any ballpark figure, in $/GH terms, of what the assembled boards/hive will go for? Is this going to be competitive/cheaper than simply buying an Antminer S1?

+1

If we are buying the chips only at $3.5 per GH that means for 1TH you need $3500.
And that is for the chips only.

There's a complete 1TH unit available from mid March at $2550.
TheObserver made a GB about it: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/closed-vx-1-miner-group-buy-free-1-ths-miner-giveaway-452850

Here is a little information. I'll work on the rest and provides link to a spreadsheet.

Chips Only

Low Power:

1TH/[email protected] = 20GH/s x 50 A1s@$87.5 = $4375.0
Nominal Performance:

1TH/[email protected] = 25GH/s x 40 A1s@$87.5 = $3500.0
Turbo Mode:

1TH/[email protected] = 40GH/s x 25 A1s@$87.5 = $2187.5

its still to sort out if these are real

They might be real, but sounds like a one-off-shot operation that managed a rare deal on prices. Could be a couple of hobbyists that just got a wild hair and went for it. There is no discussion about mass production. They claim to have made more units than they really wanted and are selling the overage to recover costs. They also claim to be working on some Black Arrow Minion units. They are either two hobbyists, clever marketers or scam artists. Who knows? The main point is, if they are legit, availability will be very slim.

I'll try and get the specs that you guys asked for on the $GH/s for the A1 Wasps and post it here.

i would need a pcb design or better complete boards where to just add the chips,
but then i would get at least a TH of them

We will offer a fabrication/assembly service for the Wasps, and will offer a few of the PCBs for sale as soon as the design is finalized and we get a manufacture producing the units. I will mark you up as a possible reserve for 1 Th/s worth of A1s.

James this is great.

I can hold enough BTC (or is it $?) to buy ten more chips at all tiers solely so that you can bump up if needed, until date to be confirmed, unless btc skyrockets details also tbc

I don't really want them myself, so please let the big guns roll, and we sort out what I do with my 10 after the buy, no worries.

But I do reckon you'll get to the top tier soon enough.

Thanks railzand, I'll put you down for a reserved count of 10 A1s. And don't worry, if you don't want to take physical possession of the chips there are lots of ways we can handle that for you. You can sell them to someone else, we can mount them for you and you can sell them on the Hashing Exchange or to someone else or pay the assembly fee and have them shipped directly to you or to the individual you sell them to.

I think that I will change this thread from 'Testing' to 'Open' if we get a few more interested parties. So, how bout it?  Smiley

When I go live with this Group Chip Buy, I'll post a link to a spreadsheet or something like it so we all can see the progress of the GCB. I might also link to web page that will let you place a reserve order, etc.... etc...
